[Bug 617647] Re: [Acer aspire 7736z - Realtek ALC888] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-10-11 Thread C Pirnat
I believe it has something to do with the way the card is detected. I've
been trying to get this working for a while now. The only thing i've
found is switching to the 2.6.32 kernel solves it in any distro. In arch
I tried downgrading alsa to 1.0.22 and still no sound but it works fine
with 2.6.32 and alsa 1.0.23. I think the problem is in the snd-hda-intel
driver not alsa. From my understanding the driver is built in to the
kernel now?

Other interesting things i've found is that alsamixer reports a
different chip in 10.10 vs. 10.04.

10.10 Card: HDA Intel Chip: Intel Cantiga HDMI (Sound doesn't work)
10.04 Card: HDA Intel Chip: Intel G45 ... (Sound works)

On my acer aspire 7736z i've tried passing all kinds of model settings
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with no success

Qusai Abu Hilal you can find alsa-base.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf

I just tried linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa with lucid
problem still persists with all recent updates. Digital output is
showing under aplay -l but you can get any output switching in sound
preferences to any of the digital outputs.

 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: Conexant Digital [Conexant Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I do notice that subdevices for the digital is now 1/1 instead of 0/1
before. I will try later and see if anything has changed maybe an update
snuck in with in the last few hours.

java. When trying to connect to the tightvncserver via a java browser
crashes the vncserver. It leaves the pid file in ~/.vnc and leaves all
the temporary files in /tmp. tightvnc-java is unusable at this time. I
can recreate the crash every time it never works. I've tried newer
versions from tightvnc's webiste with the same problem. The system then
becomes unstable and new windows will not open on the local display.
You have to log out to fix the issue.

Beharvior persists with versions 1.3.9 of tightvncserver and tightvnc-
java. Also does not work in Intrepid.

It appears this bug still persists. I'm running Hardy 64bit and
experience this behavior. I tried blacklisting the e1000 module but it
still loaded. I then tried sudo rmmod e1000 and sudo modprobe e1000e and
it loads although I get device errors trying to ifup the interface.

[Bug 138508] (gusty) gnome panel displayed running wine apps full screen with desktop effects enabled

2007-09-09 Thread C Pirnat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

With recent updates to X it appears it may have broken the legacy
fullscreen option under compiz. I'm using nvidia 7600gs with nvidia-
glx drivers running steam via wine. Checkboxing legacy fullscreen
support use to make the app full screen with out the gnome menu bar
present. Since recent updates gnome menu bar stays present even though
option is selected.

Users can recreate via installing wine and fullscreen app. Enable
desktop effects and open the wine app. Gnome menu bar overlays on top
of application. If user installs compizconfig-settings-manager and
check boxes full screen legacy support under work arounds the gnome
menu bar is still present. Even though this workaround used to work
before recent updates to Xorg.

I'm experiencing the same sort of problems with knot2. Its seeing the
controller as scsi for some reason as described above /dev/sda etc...
The system is operable however the cdrom attached to /dev/hdc will not
function due to these issues and there is an ata2 timeout error on boot.

This is on a gateway solo 5300 notebook with the Intell 82371AB PIIX4

hwinfo is showing knot 2 is using ata_piix sd and libata for
modules.

[Bug 59038] Unable to install knot 2 on Intel 82371AB IDE piix4 controller

2006-09-05 Thread C Pirnat
Public bug reported:

This chipset can be found in some IBM thinkpads and a Gateway solo 5300
notebook. I'm sure it can be found elsewhere its pretty common.

Booting knot2 iso its unable to detect the cdrom. The hd is seen as
scsi for some reason i.e. /dev/sda.

I was able to install via a dist-upgrade from a dapper install on this
machine; however, the problem persists after reboot.

The hd is seen as /dev/sda instead of /dev/hda, and the cdrom on hdc
will not function. On boot system halts for 30 seconds while ata2
timesout.

I used hwinfo to find out more information and hwinfo --ide returns
nothing; although, hwinfo --scsi returns that the ide controller is
using modules ata_piix sd and libata

[Bug 59038] Re: Unable to install knot 2 on Intel 82371AB IDE piix4 controller

2006-09-05 Thread C Pirnat
I found a very similiar bug at
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-
source-2.6.17/+bug/54727

I also tried to blacklist the aforementioned modules and the hd reports
as /dev/hda now instead of /dev/sda. The cdrom does still not function
and I'm still receiving a hang on boot for 30 seconds while ata2
timesout.
