[Bug 1972159] [NEW] systemd-oomd frequently kills firefox and visual studio code
Public bug reported: Since I installed Ubuntu 22.04, firefox and visual studio code are frequently killed by systemd-oomd (every 2hours). I have 8 GB memory and never experienced this before the upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04. I thus assume that the claim that there is not enough memory is abusive. Did 64GB of memory become the minimum requirement to run Ubuntu ? The second problem is that it gives a very bad user experience which is critical for new Ubuntu users. There should be a warning prior killing apps to give the opportunity to save the app data. There should at least be an apologize and an explanation after killing the app. The current behavior gives the impression that Ubuntu 22.04 is unreliable and unsafe to use which is a problem for an LTS release that many people might want to use for critical production context. There might be a configuration problem with systemd-oomd or simply a bogus behavior. I would recommend to disable it or remove it completely until this problem is resolved. This is what I will do for myself because I have work to do. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1972159 Title: systemd-oomd frequently kills firefox and visual studio code To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1972159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The reported error is fixed by changing the line 814 In file /usr/bin /unattended-upgrade subject = _("unattended-upgrades result for '%s': '%s'") % ( host(), res) into subject = _("unattended-upgrades result for '{}': '{}'").format( host(), res) Unfortunately the % formating is used in many places and changing this line doesn't definitely fix the problem with unattended-updates. [Bug 378228] Re: eclipse looses focus when tool tip windows disappear
Problem is apparently related to the SCIM application. I saw a similar problem when switching from gedit to a shell window. The SCIM rectangle pops up on the bottom right side of the screen each time I switch windows. If I select SCIM option to not show this window, when switching from gedit to shell, the shell will ignore keyboard input as if it lost focus. I tried removing SCIM, but then I was unable to type ê composed characters. But reinstalling SCIM, I was again able to type ê but all problems where back again. [Bug 243399] Re: SCIM eats X11 KeyRelease event
I encounter a problem apparently due to SCIM which has the effect that the keybord focus is apparently loss. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and have to stay with it. In Eclipse, when a tooltip windows shows up and disapear, keybpard entry are ignore afterward. I have to switch edited text (clicking tabs) to get back the focus. I saw the same problem when switching from gedit to a shell. The shell would ignore keyboard entries until I click in the top window bar or switch session tabls. I saw the same problem with a java application. I suspected a problem in Java, but I'm now pretty sure it is a problem due to SCIM. I tried removing the SCIM package but I was then unable to type ê characters which I need. Reinstalling SCIM resolved this problem, but also restored the keyboard focus loss. Another weird behavior is that now whenever I switch the front most window, SCIM pops up on the bottom right on my screen. I noticed that amavis doesn't get started with the consequence that all incoming mails get blocked in queues by postfix. Although it is there as rc2.d/S19amavis Checking the logs, I saw these series of messages. I get 100 of them in one boot. Restarting amavis by hand resolves the amavis problem.

Re: [Bug 76842] Re: Install of fam package removes ubuntu-desktop
Daniel Holbach a écrit : Can you explain why fam is more efficient than gamin? ** Changed in: gamin (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info Sorry I don't know to whom this question is addressed. The problem I am facing is that I want to install clamav and spamassassin with my postfix installation. The howto procedure said I had to install fam for this. Unfortunately I had to roll back because fam cause the desinstallation of many desktop applications. Now I am running without clamav, etc. It is probably a coincidence, but I just received a virus. So I do have an urgent need to install clamav, spamassassin. If you can tell me the procedure to install clamav, spamassassin with amavis-new and postfix and would be totally happy. Whether it is with fam or gaim is not relevant form me. Since I have no clue if both can be transparently switched, I didn't install anything. The removal of my desktop applications was a bit traumatic and I would prefer avoiding to experience it again. Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my problem and sending a mail about it. -- Install of fam package removes ubuntu-desktop https://launchpad.net/bugs/76842 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 76841] edgy i386 iso cd check fails: 1 checksum error
Public bug reported: I downloaded the iso from four different sources in France. I checked the md5 published on the ubuntu site and it was always Ok. I burned the CD with two different CD writers on two different PC with two different programs. First time at x24, second time at x4 and last time at x2. When I boot on the CD and click the check CD menu entry it ends by reporting that checking failed because one checksum is invalid. I did this on two different computers and both attempt yield the same result. I have no clue what checksum failed and so I don't know if this is a critical problem or not. I burned in total 6 CD's all showing the same problem. I need to install edgy on one of my computer and would like to know if I can safely go on with the instalation. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- edgy i386 iso cd check fails: 1 checksum error https://launchpad.net/bugs/76841 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 76842] Install of fam package removes ubuntu-desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: fam I need to install fam because it makes courier-imapd more efficient in shared access, and it is apparently also usefull for amavisd-new, clamav and spamassassin. fam requires to remove ubuntu-desktop which caught me by surprise and was un unpleasant experience. At least I learned the value of the -s option of apt-get. ** Affects: fam (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Install of fam package removes ubuntu-desktop https://launchpad.net/bugs/76842 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
