[Bug 1083644] Re: Palimpsest does not support gparted GPT
I have the same hard disk, a 4T My Book from WD and I have the same problem. The details might be a little off because I am not at work at the moment. I used gparted to create a GUID Partition Table and created a ~3.8T partition and a ~100G partition. Disk Utility correctly identified the partitions, but could not identify the partition table. It characterised the partition table as unknown. I could not delete or modify the partitions using disk utility. My computer is a Dell desktop running 12:10 64 bit. [Bug 590681] Re: EXT4 Files corruption
I have a similar problem. I have an ext4 file system sitting on luks (via /dev/mapper). It's an external disk, connected via USB. I copy files to this file system. I then check the files using md5sum. Files which are larger than a gigabyte are almost always damaged. I ran fsck and it detected errors. I fixed the errors and copied the files again. Again there were errors. The damaged files are the correct size and have the correct metadata but fail an md5 check. Some of these files are movies and I would spot a small fault when I played back. Some are zipped and will fail the gzip --test option. I used a diference viewer on one large XML file and could see a small bit of corruption a large way into the file. I have tried this a number of times and the files almost always fail to be copied correctly, but not in a repeatable way. Some smaller files were also damaged, but on being copied again, did copy across correctly. The source for the files is also ext4 sitting on /dev/mapper/ block. It also uses LUKS encryption and is exactly the same type of disk. [Bug 704613] [NEW] Maverick hard locks with kernel_thread_panic
Public bug reported: My computer (Toshiba T110) has recently started to crash under load. I was running md5sum on all files on the hard disk. Running top indicated that md5sum and mount-ntfs were equally busy (~50% each). Three times, the computer hard locked before the command had finished (pressing caps lock did not cause the caps lock light to light). The sensors applet indicated that the CPU temperature was 52 degrees C. I am unaware of any recent changes I made which might have caused this problem. One point worth noting is that I get a similar error on boot if I use the standard 10.10 .iso converted so it boots from a usb device. The usb device is able to boot on other computers, but always gives this error (kernel_thread_helper) as ubuntu starts to boot on the T110. Last message printed is related to a kernel_thread_helper. Searching syslog shows the problem: grep -A1 kernel_thread_helper /var/log/syslog Jan 18 11:37:10 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106054] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 11:37:10 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106063] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 12:19:10 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106049] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 12:19:10 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106059] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 12:29:41 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106053] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 12:29:41 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106062] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 15:35:46 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106055] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 15:35:46 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106064] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 15:54:38 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106049] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 15:54:38 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106058] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 17:05:17 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106043] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 17:05:17 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106052] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- -- Jan 18 19:37:51 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106059] [] kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x10 Jan 18 19:37:51 charlie-laptop kernel: [0.106069] ---[ end trace a7919e7f17c0a725 ]--- uname -a Linux charlie-laptop 2.6.35-23-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 24 10:18:49 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704613 Title: Maverick hard locks with kernel_thread_panic -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
