[Bug 1437502] Re: nautilus lacking 'new document' in context menu on GNOME

2018-06-10 Thread Charlie Daly
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1632027 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1632027

The workaround as suggested by Anders Hall is not very satisfactory
because the first thing that you want to do after creating a new
document is change the name. Previously, after creating the document you
were immediately in a text field changing the name. Using the
workaround, you have to select the document and select that you are
changing the name before entering the name. It is pointless extra work.

[Bug 1676060] [NEW] log2timeline.py from package plaso fails on dependency check

2017-03-25 Thread Charlie Daly
Public bug reported:

log2timeline.py fails with the following error:

$ log2timeline.py output ~/Documents/

This was on a brand new version of Ubuntu 16.04.

This was installed with:

Expected to happen.
That log2timeline would work properly.

Instead it printed the message shown above about missing dependencies.

[Bug 1083644] Re: Palimpsest does not support gparted GPT

2013-02-21 Thread Charlie Daly
I have the same hard disk, a 4T My Book from WD and I have the same problem.
The details might be a little off because I am not at work at the moment.

I used gparted to create a GUID Partition Table and created a ~3.8T
partition and a ~100G partition.

Disk Utility correctly identified the partitions, but could not identify
the partition table. It characterised the partition table as unknown.

I could not delete or modify the partitions using disk utility.

My computer is a Dell desktop running 12:10 64 bit.

Should I open a new bug since this one is expired.

[Bug 590681] Re: EXT4 Files corruption

2011-05-09 Thread Charlie Daly
I have a similar problem.

I have an ext4 file system sitting on luks (via /dev/mapper). It's an
external disk, connected via USB.

I copy files to this file system. I then check the files using md5sum.
Files which are larger than a gigabyte are almost always damaged.

I ran fsck and it detected errors. I fixed the errors and copied the
files again. Again there were errors. The damaged files are the correct
size and have the correct metadata but fail an md5 check.

Some of these files are movies and I would spot a small fault when I
played back. Some are zipped and will fail the gzip --test option. I
used a diference viewer on one large XML file and could see a small bit
of corruption a large way into the file.

I have tried this a number of times and the files almost always fail to
be copied correctly, but not in a repeatable way. Some smaller files
were also damaged, but on being copied again, did copy across correctly.

The source for the files is also ext4 sitting on /dev/mapper/ block. It
also uses LUKS encryption and is exactly the same type of disk.

I use Ubuntu 10.10, Linux 2.6.35-28-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18

2011-01-30 Thread Charlie Daly
Hi,
I had no problem booting natty-alternate-i386.iso from

I also tried the upstream kernel (2.6.36-020636rc7-generic) at

the bug.

[Bug 704613] Re: Maverick hard locks with kernel_thread_panic

2011-01-19 Thread Charlie Daly

Hi,
apparently this has been fixed in the new kernel:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/652724/comments/10

I downloaded this kernel and it is the first time I have been able to
complete my md5sum job. So this kernel solves that problem,
unfortunately, my wireless doesn't work with this kernel.

[Bug 704613] [NEW] Maverick hard locks with kernel_thread_panic

2011-01-18 Thread Charlie Daly
Public bug reported:

My computer (Toshiba T110) has recently started to crash under load. I
was running md5sum on all files on the hard disk. Running top indicated
that md5sum and mount-ntfs were equally busy (~50% each). Three times,
the computer hard locked before the command had finished (pressing caps
lock did not cause the caps lock light to light). The sensors applet
indicated that the CPU temperature was 52 degrees C.

I am unaware of any recent changes I made which might have caused this
problem.

One point worth noting is that I get a similar error on boot if I use
the standard 10.10 .iso converted so it boots from a usb device. The usb
device is able to boot on other computers, but always gives this error
(kernel_thread_helper) as ubuntu starts to boot on the T110.

Last message printed is related to a kernel_thread_helper.

Searching syslog shows the problem:

[Bug 665302] Re: Microphone not working on Toshiba T130-15F [Conexant CX20582]

2010-11-05 Thread Charlie Daly

I have a T110 with Ubuntu 10.10 and have the same problem. The internal mic
doesn't work. External mic and headphones do work. This bug existed in Ubuntu
10.04 and in 9.10.

In 9.10 there was a workaround using

gnome-alsamixer

There are a number of Mics shown. Mic B was selected. selecting Mic F
would enable the internal mic.

10.04 broke this fix, but installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-
generic reenabled this workaround.

Sound card:

$cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: Conexant CX20582 (Pebble)
Codec: Intel Cantiga HDMI

[Bug 535572] Re: System hard locks with Lucid

2010-06-28 Thread Charlie Daly

Hi Ancoron,
I guess you're right that it is unrelated. For one thing, my freeze was a
one-off. I haven't managed to duplicate it. I use Ubuntu a lot, but I'm not
really au fait with the kernel and therefore am not sure how to find out more
about the bug in order to report it properly.

Assuming that it was file system related and it affected the kernel, it
is likely to be a file system driver that is at fault.

In any event, I ran your script for about 90 minutes and had no ill
effects.

[Bug 535572] Re: System hard locks with Lucid

2010-06-27 Thread Charlie Daly

I just got a hard lock in Lucid. I am not sure if it's related. I booted
from another disk (same system otherwise) so that logs would be
unaffected.

uname -a
Linux lucid-8g 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite T110 with 4G of RAM. It's been working fine
for about a week. The setup was fairly standard except that I have a LUKS
encrypted SDHC disk mounted as home.
I also had a LUKS encrypted USB disk at the time and was copying files. All
file activity seemed to have stopped and the system froze. Clock stopped
updating and I couldn't get a terminal using the CTRL, ALT F1 combination.

2008-11-13 Thread Charlie Daly

I noticed this message briefly appear (almost flicker - could just make out the
text 'policy timeout') on my Toshiba Satelite pro (U200) running Hardy.

It's the first time I noticed it and it probably was because, I opened
the lid and then pressed the power button. Opening the lid is normally
enough to trigger resume, but I accidently pressed the power button
which was probably the cause of the alert.

[Bug 178530] Re: hardy alpha2 PRO/Wireless 3945ABG does not work

2008-06-04 Thread Charlie Daly
Rammy's solution doesn't work for me.

My hardy installation uses the iwl3945 driver and can connect to an
unsecured AP but cannot connect to my WEP AP with a hex key. It tries
and then asks me to enter the key again.

If I boot into gutsy using the ipw3945 driver, it connects quickly and
without any problems.

[Bug 150888] Re: nm-applet not refresh networks

2008-01-16 Thread Charlie Daly

I'd like to add my vote to this. Really annoying to have to reboot.

[Bug 108349] Re: [Feisty Regression]Dell Inspiron 630m, does not wake up after suspend

2007-11-27 Thread Charlie Daly

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro, U200 running Gutsy with all the latest updates
and I have this problem. On suspend to RAM, I briefly see a green grid which
makes it look like the screen saver is working. Then the screen goes blank and
then the FAN starts, which would indicate to me that the CPU is going full belt.
At this point, the computer doesn't respond to any thing except the power
button and this normally has to be pressed for maybe 5 seconds.

If I suspend to RAM by closing the screen, then sometimes, the screen is
restored, but the computer doesn't respond.
