[Bug 1338973] Re: scrolling unusable, touchpad too sensitive
I just updated my macbook air (2013) from Ubuntu 16.04 to 17.10, and the touchpad scrolling is way too sensitive. All instructions I find seem to be X-specific and involving editing X config files. `xinput list` doesn't mention any touchpads like any examples I can find online. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1338973 Title: scrolling unusable, touchpad too sensitive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kde-baseapps/+bug/1338973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1570132] [NEW] 16.04 beta Couldn't log in after today's update
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04 beta had some updates today. I installed the updates, rebooted, and logging in would never complete. When I logged in, my desktop would appear, but the dash, launcher, and titlebar would never appear. The problem resembled the issue reported here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/476930/ubuntu-desktop-does-not-load . I was able to right-click on the desktop and open a terminal (which was missing a titlebar). I was able to work around the problem by running dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ gnome-session-quit --force and then logging in again. However, before I did that, I dumped all of my current dconf settings to a text file first. I've attached the text file dump of the /org/compiz dconf keys that caused the problem. Here's the diff between my old problematic dconf settings and the new ones after I reset them and logged in again. I would guess that the problem has to do with the plugins-with-set-keys or active-plugins settings referring to things that were removed in the update. [Bug 1401591] Re: package nvidia-331 331.113-0ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 8

Processing triggers for man-db (2.7.0.2-2) ... Errors were encountered while processing: nvidia-331 Log ended: 2014-12-17 22:12:31 The difference from OP is the "stop: Unknown job: nvidia-persistenced" line. My machine has no such job nvidia-persistenced, but it does have a user and a process running by that name. (OP's log shows "stop: Unknown instance: ", which indicates there was a job by that name, but it wasn't currently running.) The issue appears to be because of this part in nvidia-331's postrm: # Remove the nvidia-persistenced user if id "$NVPD_USER" > /dev/null 2>&1; then stop nvidia-persistenced || true userdel "$NVPD_USER" fi On my machine, there is no such job "nvidia-persistenced". It fails to stop that job and continues, but my machine does have a nvidia- persistenced process running, so the following userdel line fails and causes the package uninstallation to abort. The correct way to stop nvidia-persistenced appears to be "/usr/bin/stop-nvidia-persistenced", but that file is already removed by the time that nvidia-331's postrm is run. The "stop nvidia-persistenced || true" line should be removed, and "/usr/bin/stop-nvidia-persistenced" should be added to prerm's remove) section. [Bug 1388043] [NEW] /etc/mailname no longer used for outgoing message domain
Public bug reported: I've recently been setting up a new server using Ubuntu 14.04 to replace a 12.04 server, and found if not a bug, then at least a breaking change that doesn't seem to match up intuitively with the documentation. Both servers have postfix installed. (12.04 has 2.9.6, and 14.04 has 2.11.1, as reported by postconf mail_version.) Each have a hostname unrelated to their FQDN. On the 12.04 server, sending mail with the `mail` utility sends the messages as $user@$fqdn correctly. On the 14.04 server, sending mail with the `mail` utility sends the messages as $user@$hostname instead. There don't appear to be any differences in how they're configured. Even if I copy the whole /etc/postfix folder from the 12.04 server to the 14.04 server and restart postfix, the issue persists. To make sure I'm not crazy, I tested against new 12.04 and 14.04 VMs (using vagrant, which made it quick to test). Here are my notes. [Bug 876273] [NEW] Banshee won't sync my music with my Sansa Clip+
Public bug reported: Just upgraded to 11.10 the other day, and decided to try out the Banshee media player as it seems to be the default. (Used to use Rhythmbox, which worked pretty well.) When I plug in my Sansa Clip+, Nautilus opens it up like a flash drive as it usually does (with the media player icon), and it's detected by Banshee as "Rockbox Device". I have Rockbox on it, however, Rockbox currently doesn't support USB mode on the Clip+, so I always have it booted in the original Clip+ firmware when I have it hooked to my computer. Banshee lets me see the music I have on it, and I can play music from it fine, however if I set it so I sync my entire music collection to it, and then hit sync, a little progress bar appears at the bottom right of the screen going back and forth, never accomplishing anything. There's a red X button near the progress bar, and if I hit it, I get "This operation is still performing work. Would you like to stop it?" with Continue and Stop buttons. If I hit stop, it will say "Stopping..." above the progress bar, and the red X will become greyed out, but nothing ever changes after that. I can hit the disconnect button to eject my media player, and that works successfully, but the progress bar still sits there saying "Stopping...". [Bug 258935] Re: program freezes when changing the volume with multimedia keys.. also once it loses the audio control it is horrible at reclaiming it
I'm suddenly having major issues with this bug. Rhythmbox is completely unusable with this. It freezes for about 30 seconds at a time when I use my volume controls, and about half of my open windows freeze with it. I just logged out, logged in, tested with rhythmbox being the only thing running, and it still does this. I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, amd64, with rhythmbox 0.12.5 (and its dbg packages). I've attached the resulting file after I ran "rhythmbox -d 2>&1 | tee rhythmbox-freeze.txt" (and removed the thousands of lines where it decided to list every single one of my songs). At the top of the file, I noted the four times that rhythmbox stopped responding (it's pretty much every time the log skips more than 10 seconds). The line [0xa01040] [window_focus_cb] rb-mmkeys-plugin.c:142: window got focus, re-grabbing media keys is always the last thing that shows up on the terminal when rhythmbox freezes. The line appears every time I press a media key (including the volume key), but doesn't always cause rhythmbox to freeze. ** Attachment added: "Rhythmbox's debug logging" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36988240/rhythmbox-freeze.txt -- program freezes when changing the volume with multimedia keys.. also once it loses the audio control it is horrible at reclaiming it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just noticed today that this problem also shows up while using KVM/QEMU (current kvm package from ubuntu reps). [Bug 32457] Re: gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games with compiz enabled
I've noticed a similar problem lately (it's not a new problem, just quantified it now) with other games (besides UT2k4 as I mentioned). UT2k4 never likes to let go of the mouse, but several other games I've played (Quake 3, zdoom; both open source) will release the mouse on certain events it doesn't need it, like when the game's console is open. With these games, instead of the keys not responding temporarily and the mouse getting screwed up by gnome-screensaver after some time (like UT2k4), the mouse simply detaches from the game (Zdoom even detects this and pauses the game for you, presumably because it notices it has lost focus). Click on the game window does not fix it and reattach mouse control. I have to click a different window (or my desktop background; If I'm in fullscreen, I'm out of luck, and I have to ctrl-alt-f1, log in, and kill the game). And selecting a different window doesn't even work the first time, I have to click several times before it does, then I can click back to the game to make it active again. Bugs like this (and the lack of a fix) make me feel like the only gamer who has touched Ubuntu with anything shorter than a 10 ft pole sometimes. This bug and the inability to use volume controls while a game has mouse control are literally the only two major problems I have with Ubuntu. -- gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games with compiz enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 397184] [NEW] KVM title bar reads as "QEMU" instead of "QEMU/QEMU" even with hw support
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kvm I'm running KVM, and many tutorials I see mention that if the hardware virtualization features and the kvm module are used, the title bar should read "QEMU/KVM" instead of just "QEMU". Running "egrep -o '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo" outputs "vmx" twice. Running "groups" shows that I am in the kvm group. In my BIOS, virtualization processor extensions are enabled. If I remove my user from the kvm group (and log out / back in) or disable the virtualization extensions in the BIOS, kvm runs noticeably slower, so I'm convinced that it normally is using the hardware features, but the title bar still reads as just "QEMU". Is the title bar not supposed to change? And are there any other ways to check that it really is using the hardware virtualization features? When it seemed the routine check finished, and the boot-up bar continued, the "Routine check of drives:... press ESC to skip" message still remained there erroneously. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Routine Check of Drives message does not go away until system is booted up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 313085] Re: Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in
I'm not able to test it now with the Live CD, but soon as I can I'll get back to this. -- Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 313085] Re: Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit, with the latest updates (backports, proposted, etc are all enabled too). I also use Extra Effects in System>Preferences>Appearance>Visual Effects. I'm suddenly having trouble reproducing this, so figuring this out again... Ok, I have some steps that seem to work every time for me. There might be some unnecessary steps that I haven't tested enough to tell that they aren't necessary, but there are also a few odd things that seem to be required to get this to work. The order of these steps are important and need to be repeated exactly. 1. Log out if you're already logged in. Log back in. 2. Start Firefox. Maximize it if its not already maximized. 3. Click Places>Computer. 4. Click on Firefox to bring it to focus. 5. Press ctrl+alt+L to lock the screen and do screensaver. 6. Press a button exit to the screensaver and show the password dialog. 7. Insert flash drive and wait about 5 seconds. 8. If nothing happens, type in your password and unlock the screen. 9. Close the newly opened window showing the flash drive's contents. 10. Go to the Computer window, right-click on the flash drive, and unmount it. It's icon will change once its unmounted. Remove the flash drive from the computer. 11. Click on Firefox again to bring it to focus. 12. Press ctrl+alt+L to lock the screen and do screensaver. 13. Press a button to exit the screensaver and show the password dialog. 14. Insert flash drive and wait about 5 seconds. 15. The bug I described should happen. -- Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 313085] [NEW] Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Normally when I plug in my flash drive, nautilus opens it in a window. If my screen is locked when I plug in my flash drive, the screen lock disappears completely, showing my session as if it was unlocked, with the new nautilus window on the task bar highlighted waiting to be clicked. Except that the system doesn't respond to any normal inputs. I can't click on anything or use my keyboard on any of the shown programs. I have to either ctrl+alt+backspace, or ctrl+alt+f1, log in, and killall gnome-screensaver to get the computer to do anything. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screen lock goes away if flash drive plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 37350] Re: Pressing power button unlocks locked screensaver
If I press the power button while the screen is locked, the "Shutdown the computer" menu comes up (but behind the screen lock - I have to unlock the screen to see it). The bad part is that it informs me it will log me off in 60 seconds, so that means that someone could log me off right from the lock screen. -- Pressing power button unlocks locked screensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 191041] Re: [hardy] gnome-screensaver blocks multimedia keys
If this was put in, I would want a way to disable this feature. If I pause my music, lock the screen, and walk away for a few minutes, I don't want someone else to be able to resume my music and go to a different track. -- [hardy] gnome-screensaver blocks multimedia keys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191041 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000
This effects me in Intrepid with backports updates enabled. I'll be in an online game, and suddenly I start lagging completely; its as if my wireless stopped uploading - I can't move or talk, but I can still see the game playing on without me for a bit of time. I'm not able to reconnect, or browse the internet for some time when this happens, unless I click the NetworkManager icon, and click my wireless network to reconnect to it (it still thinks I'm connected to it though). -- iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. [Bug 264977] Re: Filenames in ~/.Private are not encrypted
Would a solution to this (I'd assume an implementation of a "one-user crypted directory" like mentioned above) also encrypt directory names, and directory structures? The organization and names of folders could be stored inside a single encrypted file (that could even look no different than other files in the ~/.Private directory). -- Filenames in ~/.Private are not encrypted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264977 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
