This happened again this evening. I left it alone for about 6 hours and

[Bug 288843] Re: 4 GB ram with 9500m GS video card will not load driver

2008-12-18 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Can you post your dmesg output with 4 GB of RAM and also for 2 GB if
possible? If you have your kernel patched to fix the issue, it would
probably be best if you can revert to the non-patched kernel for the
purposes of gathering this information. Also please post the info from
/proc/iomem. If you did patch your kernel, can you post the patch you
used?

It sounds like you are possibly running into the same addressing issue

[Bug 288991] Re: X server display error during Intrepid 8.10 RC installation

2008-10-24 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
I completed another successful install with the Wacom tablet unplugged
and without touching anything to verify that the screen blanking was not
involved. I then shut it down after logging into the new system and
verifying there were no errors and shut it down. I plugged the Wacom
tablet back in and started another install from the CD menu. It copied
files and then at some point after that (reconfiguring hardware,
perhaps?), the X error window appeared. It looks like it is thus a
problem with the tablet during the installation rather than the video
card.

I was able to get the installation to complete with the Wacom tablet

At this point, I removed the CD and rebooted, and was greeted with the

unplugged) and report back.

[Bug 288991] [NEW] X server display error during Intrepid 8.10 RC installation

2008-10-24 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Overview:

* Version: Intrepid (8.10) RC i386 desktop installer
* Video card: ATI Radeon 9600 XT (AGP) with two LCDs attached - one on VGA and
one on DVI

* Captures from the installation will be attached shortly: dmesg, lspci,
Xorg.0.log.

Problem:

I used the Intrepid RC Desktop (i386) installation CD to begin
installation by selecting the option to test the LiveCD first rather
than just the installation. The LiveCD ran properly and I was able to
open up the installer program and enter all of my information using the
keyboard. Note that I have a Wacom Graphire 4 USB tablet installed that
did not work, which I am mentioning in case it is related. The
installation started and copied files and I left the room. When I
returned, the X error window was displayed on the screen.

The error is as follows:
"The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds.
It is likely that something bad is going on. Waiting for 2 minutes before
trying again on display :0.

"

At this point I switched over to the first console and copied the debug
files off. When I select , I am dropped into the logging console
that has the last line sitting at "* Checking battery state... [OK]"

The same error occurred previously when selecting just the installation
option at boot. I do not have the logs for that, but can get them if
that would be helpful. I have not yet tried the alternate CD, as I seem
to be completely out of blank CDs. My video worked fine in Hardy with
the "ati" driver.

[Bug 196900] Re: [fglrx] Ati x1600Pro White screen on active desktop fx

2008-04-07 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Confirm on my desktop with a Radeon 9600 XT on Hardy Beta (latest
updates). Compiz worked fine in Gutsy, but that was with the open
source ati driver, which I can no longer select when using desktop
effects.

Xorg log, xorg.conf, and output of 'sudo lspci -v' attached. The config
file has a few additional lines that I added for my Wacom tablet, but I
don't believe they have any relevance to the fglrx problem.

[Bug 77226] Re: Wacom Mouse Scroll Wheel is Upside-Down

2008-04-06 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Hardy beta comes with (at the moment) 0.7.9.8. I just installed it
today and the mouse wheel on my Graphire 4 is scrolling properly - down
is down, and up is up. It was inverted when I had Gusty. Can anyone
else confirm that it is fixed with their model?

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-10-27 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
I have seen the 'freezing' problem frequently on a Thinkpad T42 with a
Radeon 9600 Mobility card (64MB) when desktop effects are enabled and
when using the 'ati' driver. The output of lspci -vn is attached.
Strangely enough, I have not seen the problem on my desktop, which has a
Radeon 9600 XT card (128MB). I don't know if it makes a difference, but
the laptop install was done from the release version of 7.10, while the
desktop install was done starting at Gutsy Tribe 5 and then upgrading
packages with auto update.

I will attach the output of lspci -vn from my desktop shortly.

invalid for gthumb as I don't see a way to completely remove gthumb as
an affected package.

[Bug 85113] Re: [apport] NetworkManager crashed with signal 5 in main()

2007-09-26 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Alexander, I don't see anything related at first glance in
/var/log/syslog. I also have some archived syslog.0 files that I can
take a look at. What should I be looking for? I was directed to this
bug by apport and still have the
/var/crash/_usr_sbin_NetworkManager.0.crash file if that would be
helpful.

[Bug 136691] No default application for LibriVox example content

2007-09-01 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: example-content

The Aesop's Fables audio recording in Gutsy Tribe 5 cannot be played by
double-clicking on it from the Examples folder on the LiveCD. It plays
fine when opening from directly within Totem, be it with File->Open or
dragging the file in.

The error message is:
"fables_01_01_aesop.spx" cannot be opened
No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling
this kind of file.

I believe this bug may need to be reassigned to another package, but I'm
not sure which.

[Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk

2007-06-24 Thread Chris Hollenbeck
Confirm on a Thinkpad T42, kernel 2.6.20-16-generic on Feisty -
hibernating the system and then resuming results in a loss of sound.
This is still the case after rebooting. If I shut it down, and start it
back up, it works fine. I tested the HIBERNATE_MODE=platform change
that others have suggested, and this seems to fix the problem.
