While I can't be sure that it's the same root cause, I am also seeing a regression from 8.10 to 9.04 in the performance of compiz effects. In my case it seems to be particularly closely tied to system activity - the busier the system is the worse the effects get (which stands to reason, but the effect is very pronounced. flipping workspaces is enough to slow the effects down). -- compiz slowmotion after Jaunty upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339555 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Matt: if it is screensaver related, it's probably not because of some 3D parts - I have a blank screen and am seeing this, although I've yet to find a log of it (perhaps just because of a lack of retention of Xorg logs for very long, which is something I filed separately a while ago as Bug #274870 ). [Bug 338344] Re: Node controller sometimes crashes
I'm less sure now that this relates to disk space. Due to unrelated hardware issues I've moved the NC to the same machine as the CC/CLC and this is still happening. [Bug 338344] Re: Node controller sometimes crashes
Daniel: That does appear to be the case here, yes, itk was installed. I didn't explicitly choose to install that, so apt must have settled on it when attempting to satisfy the apache dependency. [Bug 36739] Re: MASTER Misbehaves in all sorts of ways when upgraded while running
I think it's fair to say that the lightbulb notification is not working well enough. It's good for people who notice this sort of thing, but it's not something that's immediately obvious, and it doesn't scream for attention if it's initially ignored. IMHO there are two options for making this experience more user friendly: 1) Running firefox instances notice that they have been upgraded (either by monitoring their chrome directory, or being fed some signal. The former seems more robust in a multi-user world) and display very stern warnings to the user that they really really should click a button which causes firefox to restart itself as it would have if it had been upgraded via its own internal mechanism. Obviously the chrome for this would need to be made resistant somehow, so it wasn't wiped out when the upgrade happens. This is either an upstream issue, or something we would have to do. Do they ever have to care about this instance in Windows? If firefox can be deployed as a system-wide app rather than per-user, they must do. 2) Firefox updates should only be applied while restarting the computer (obviously the infrastructure for doing this does not yet exist, but I think I've seen some talk about doing more updates in this way, when they are fundamentally incompatible with being performed while people are logged in). This would require no effort from upstream, but would require a pretty large change in the way Ubuntu updates work. -- MASTER Misbehaves in all sorts of ways when upgraded while running https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164682] Re: Ejecting an ipod should tell the ipod to disconnect, like rhythmbox
AFAIK the essential thing when unmount an ipod is that it waits to be ejected as well. Nautilus/rhythmbox/banshee/etc. know to do this, presumably because of its hal properties. Public bug reported: It seems like the cloud controller portion of Eucalyptus takes some time to initialise itself even on modern server hardware. While this may not directly be a bug, it can be confusing - I have been restarting it and reading logs to try and work out why it wasn't starting, when all I actually needed to do was wait (I don't have timing data for the first run to know if that was longer, but it reproducibly takes around 45 seconds to finish loading and listen on port 8443 on an HP DL385G2. I did wonder if some of this was down to error messages about not being able to load http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd but it doesn't get any quicker if I nullroute java.sun.com (the machine in question is behind a firewall that would silently eat outbound packets to internet hosts). [Bug 291847] Re: xdg-open mangles mailto: urls to ///f...@bar.com
xdg-open is a very simple shell script which appears to do nothing to modify the URL parameter before passing it to the chosen desktop handler (so gnome-open for Ubuntu). Indeed, running: gnome-open mailto:c...@tenshu.net will produce the same prefixed /// (xdg-email also calls gnome-open) gnome-open is even shorter than xdg-open, albeit in C. It appears to be doing the canonicalisation with calls to GIO. It seems as though passing a mailto: URI to a GIO function that creates a GFile (e.g. g_file_new_for_commandline_arg() which gnome-open uses) may be slightly destructive, to quote GIO's ChangeLog. On the (admittedly somewhat arbitrary and potentially spurious) basis that something called GFile has no business dealing with things that aren't files, I've attached a naive patch to make gnome-open not feed mailto URIs through GFile. ** Attachment added: Simple patch to avoid passing mailto URIs through GFile. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22538982/unfail-mailto.diff ** Changed in: xdg-utils (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Also affects: libgnome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xdg-open mangles mailto: urls to ///f...@bar.com https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
