I have been confused by this behavior before, for instance in scopes eg. "Today" where the favorite and settings buttons are hidden if you only open it from the all scopes screen. PopupUtils.open(Qt.resolvedUrl("TextInputPopover.qml"), anchor, {
"target": handler.main })
and for instance TextInputPopover.qml may fail to parse or have runtime
errors in QML the only output one will see is
QQmlComponent: Component is not ready
qml: PopupUtils.open(): Failed to create the popup object.
The actual errors need to be printed explicitly.

I thought about this a bit more as there just was a question on how to handle this. And it also applies to TextInputPopover, albeit internal it currently relies on labels which mismatch as soon as localization isn't English. [Bug 1410871] [NEW] Puzzling red button says 5 updates are being installed in German locale
Public bug reported: Atop the list of updates including apps and Ubuntu itself is this big red button. The button says „5 Aktualisierungen werden installiert…“ which translates to '5 updates are being installed…'. And as I discovered from bug 1333668 this is a mistranslation. It should say 'Install 3 updates' which might be something like „3 Aktualisierungen installieren“. The passive tense as well as the trailing … are clearly misdirecting the user to wait for something that's not going to happen when in fact they should be seeing an imperative. "The" icon of a particular app comes from its .desktop file from its installation folder, and at the end of the day will have an arbitrary filename looking like any other image. The preliminary conclusion is to leave this out of the new API - the current ListItem is going to be deprecated because it's by design very slow. The built-in shape feature is actually one of the reasons for that.
