[Bug 1727733] [NEW] Screen acts strangely when clicking Dash icon
Public bug reported: I'm new to Ubuntu One so I don't really know what info to submit, but my problem is as follows: Everything seems to work just fine in 16.04 - except for one thing: Dash. When I click the icon (or press the superkey) the screen goes sort of crazy: coloured strips and odd stuff appear. Sometimes the computer freezes and I have to start all over again; sometimes it is possible to save the day by (fairly quickly)clicking the Dash icon once again - and sometimes things work out by themselves. I have searched for a solution on the internet, but in vain. Maybe it has something to do with memory mapping? Computer info: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ with 3 GB RAM (I think it was originally 1 GB but I extended it some years ago) in HP Pavilion 3510no desktop (old stuff; probably at least 10 years old). [Bug 591823] Re: "File descriptor \d+ (\S+) leaked on lvs invocation."
Yep, still getting this tty spam multiple times every time update-grub runs from apt. Not when running update-grub, not when running dpkg- reconfigure linux-image-*, only when running apt install. So probably this should be a bug on apt. Suppressing it by setting LVM_SUPPRESS_FD_WARNINGS works, of course, but I would be happy if someone could suggest a way for setting it implicitly when running sudo apt upgrade. sudo -i apt upgrade works, but I keep forgetting to do it. :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591823 Title: "File descriptor \d+ (\S+) leaked on lvs invocation." [Bug 1373808] [NEW] [UX301LAA, Realtek ALC282, Black Headphone Out, Left] Microphone problem
Public bug reported: I asked my question on askubuntu.com, and it was suggested that my problem was a bug, so reporting here. According to the specs (http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX301LA/specifications/), my laptop has a Microphone-in/Headphone-out jack. I also have two different headsets, both of which works just fine as a headset when used with my phone. However, Ubuntu doesn't appear to recognize the headset as having a microphone. Under Sound and the Output tab, the only item listed changes from "Speakers Built-in Audio" to "Headphones Built-in Audio" when connected. The input tab shows no reaction at all to the headset being connected. It lists "Microphone Build-in Audio" and "Analog input Built-in Audio." Both the input options clearly take audio from the computers built in microphone, rather the headsets. Tapping the laptop gives large spikes on the Input level indicator, while tapping the microphone on the headset gives little to no response. [Bug 1348431] [NEW] -O inline_data not supported by Ubuntu e2fsprogs
Public bug reported: Since kernel version 3.8, ext4 supports the file system option inline_data to put file content into the inode itself as an extended attribute. However, this feature cannot be enabled using the included e2fsprogs in Trusty Tahr. If it has been enabled for a file system, boot e2fsck fails. Support for this is currently being worked on upstream in https://git.kernel.org/cgit/fs/ext2/e2fsprogs.git/log/?h=pu . [Bug 1188011] [NEW] should conflict with quantal linux-image-extra-* packages
Public bug reported: I have both precise and quantal in my sources.list. Whenever I do an `apt-get install linux-image-generic/quantal` and there is a ~precise version similar to the version linux-image-generic depends on, apt-get always picks the precise version first, which contains all the files of linux-image-*-generic/quantal plus the files of linux- image-extra-*-generic. I always have to specify e.g. linux- image-3.5.0-32-generic/quantal for apt-get to pick the correct package. Pinning does not help, as any pinning that selects the quantal package also selects the precise package. I believe making linux-image-*-generic*~precise conflict with linux- image-extra-* (each specific version in conflict with the respective specific version) would remove this problem. It would also make sense, because these packages do in fact conflict -- they contain an overlapping set of files. ** Affects: linux-lts-quantal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1188011 Title: should conflict with quantal linux-image-extra-* packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-quantal/+bug/1188011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It could possible be java related, I may just not have any other java based apps, but searching for java and various variations of right click and scrolling didn't find me any bugs. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 ~$ apt-cache policy netbeans netbeans: Installed: 7.0.1+dfsg1-4 Candidate: 7.0.1+dfsg1-4 Version table: *** 7.0.1+dfsg1-4 0 500 http://ubuntu.cica.es/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: netbeans 7.0.1+dfsg1-4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-26.41-generic 3.2.19 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-26-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Jul 18 12:24:18 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: netbeans UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: netbeans (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026063 Title: Two finger scrolling in Netbeans triggers right click To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbeans/+bug/1026063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 608907] Re: [lucid][maverick][i915] Lenovo U160 Intel i7 620UM blank screen
I have a U160 with a 8086:0046 chip and Xorg reports the display as EDID vendor "AUO", prod id 12380. Tried running 2.6.37-rc5, which as far as I understand is up-to-date with intel-drm. Problem persists. If I boot without "nomodeset" the machine boots with the screen lit, but black. Also, it does not respond to keyboard input, so I am unable to warm reboot it. If I boot with "nomodeset" X works, but only in 1024x768. In this case, if I do a user switch or quit X, the screen also hangs. Will try the i915.modeset=0 parameter to see if I can at least get a working 1024x768 display that doesn't hang. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608907 Title: [lucid][maverick][i915] Lenovo U160 Intel i7 620UM blank screen -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ooh yeah, Christopher's hint nailed it! Now I can keep my system updated again without having to repeat the proftpd downgrade procedure afterwards. Thanks! I guess now we just have to wait for this issue to be fixed by some warm hearted person. The 1.3.2e fix seems actually to have been released by the proftpd team back in FEBRUARY so I don't think anyone could say that it would be overly hasty to include it now? A NOTE to all of us downgraders (put a yellow sticker up right now)... WHEN THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED: DON'T FORGET TO DELETE THE DOWNGRADE PIN ( sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences.d/proftpd ) ! otherwise the proftpd server will remain downgraded forever, which of course can get this saga (yes, I'm swedish ;) to end up in security holes! [Bug 580512] Re: proftpd 1.3.2c with SSL is useless in Ubuntu 10.04
Ahh, there it is... I knew I had read it before, but couldn't find it when I was to report this problem. Thanks Laryllan! Lots of information there... possible solutions seems to be: upgrading proftpd, upgrading openssl or even downgrading proftpd. I have now temporarily sidestepped this problem by downgrading proftpd. The following parameters was considered in this decision: 1. I don't want to build stuff and inject manually in my system (too much job to maintain securely in the long run). 2. I couldn't find an upgraded Ubuntu package of openssl (this would otherwise also solved the problem. See Laryllan's link) 3. Reverting to Ubuntu 9.10 seemed like... overreacting! 4. It's a plus if an "apt-get upgrade" can be used to correct "the fix" later on. If someone is interested in exactly how I downgraded... here comes details: --- STEP 1: I downloaded an older package of proftpd from the previous Ununtu release: http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/proftpd-basic (in my case: proftpd-basic_1.3.2-3_i386.deb) STEP 2: I then removed the proftpd installed in my system: sudo apt-get remove proftpd STEP 3: Thereafter did I install the downloaded version: sudo dpkg --install proftpd-basic_1.3.2-3_i386.deb STEP 4: Next I commented the "TLSOption AllowClientRenegotiations" line in the tls.conf file: sudo vim /etc/proftpd/tls.conf STEP 4b: The line now looking like this: #TLSOptions AllowClientRenegotiations STEP 5: Starting the downgraded ftp server: sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd start FINAL STEP: I successfully connected to my downgraded ftp server with a Filezilla Client. --- Running "apt-get upgrade" now will of course upgrade and ruin what we just accomplished. But I guess if I have to upgrade the system I just have to redo the STEPS 1, 2, 3 and 5 from above and I'm back "off" track again. OUTPUT FROM: sudo apt-get remove proftpd Reading package lists... [Bug 580512] [NEW] proftpd 1.3.2c with SSL is useless in Ubuntu 10.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: proftpd-basic Hi, Due to a bug in proftpd v1.3.2c clients fail to connect to the server since the server is abruptly disconnecting when a renegotiation is initiated by the client. The disconnecting is however a "freshly" added security feature so that part should be considered normal. The problem occur when you try to disable this function (which has to be done since (at least) the commonly used FileZilla Client is not able to handle this yet). The TLSOptions AllowClientRenegotiations doesn't work and that, I read somewhere, is due to something regarding to the openssl version presently used in Ubuntu 10.04. (I made an attempt to move my up and running FTP server from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. This issue has however made me regroup to 9.10 again.) I'm adding as much info as I can. I believe that this issue is fixed in the later versions of proftpd. The version 1.3.2e released 24 Feb 2010 would probably be the wise choice! @ktp Yes, I've got the same behaviour. I've got a PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard standard connected to my desktop computer. When the computer freezes at the login screen, a newly connected USB keyboard did work, for just a few more letters of my password, but did freeze too. @ktp Thanks for the info. but since I downloaded the nvidea proprietary driver, I don't even have time to log in the normal way. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) to a clean harddisk and have the same problem. I didn't have the problem with Ubuntu 9.10. When I start linux, the login screen starts.. sometimes.. - if I wait a few minutes (without typing or moving the mouse) the computer freezes - if I type my password, it looks like a key is constantly being pressed, and the computer freezes - if I log in fast enough, and wait a while, gnome freezes with just the desktop loaded or with a key constantly being pressed. .. but always one of the three. * I used a PS/2 keyb&mouse, and an USB keyb&mouse, and had the same problem. * Without keyboard, I still have the same problem with the mouse. * I disabled the wireless network drivers. * chose in the installation for an encrypted, and later an unencrypted homefolder, still had the same problem But.. When I use, in GRUB, the recovery mode, and use the root shell, I don't have any problems. I can use the "startx" command to start gnome. Yes I tried that to, but it didn't work for me. I will trie to install the latest version from source and see if that works. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwenview If you have multiple pictures in a folder and are viewing a svg or svgz file, you can't change picture with the scrollwheel on the mouse. You can change file the Page Up & Page Dn button on the keyboard, you can change picture with the arrowbuttons in the program but you can't change picture with the scrollwheel. I have the same problem but with lyx 1.5.1, but it's ain't fixed with a reconfigure. The same file worked both in kubuntu 7.04 lyx-1.4.x and in the former 1.5.0 in Gutsy.
