[Bug 1637923] Re: package libpt2.10.11 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libpt.so.2.10.11', which is also in package libpt2.10.10v5 2.10.11~dfsg-1ubuntu1

2019-02-12 Thread Cocodude
Also got this when upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04.

Running "dpkg -r --force-depends libpt2.10.10v5" and then "apt-get -f
install" seemed to fix this.

[Bug 1404731] Re: [ Dell OptiPlex 7020, Realtek ALC3220, Green Line Out, Rear] Background noise

2015-09-27 Thread Cocodude
My workaround to go into pavucontrol and set the Built-in Audio Analogue
Stereo to "Headphones (unplugged)" does work, but sometimes I need to
switch it into this mode multiple times (via "Speakers") in order to get
the proper bass working. The same issue happens when using the command
line via "pacmd set-sink-port 1 analog-output-headphones"

So, there's something weird happening here when trying to set the mode
too, but it does work after a few tries. This is on 14.04 at least.

[Bug 1404731] Re: [ Dell OptiPlex 7020, Realtek ALC3220, Green Line Out, Rear] Background noise

2015-09-23 Thread Cocodude
This affects me too.

This is on a modern PowerEdge T20 server but it uses the same RealTek
audio chip.

A workaround is to use one of the two methods:

1) Using pavucontrol, switch the output from "Speakers" to "Headphones
(unplugged)".
2) Using alsamixer, increase the "Headphone" volume and disable "Speaker".

This bug looks like the same one that's also expired at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1133321 but it does appear
to be genuine.

As I have a spare Ethernet card (albeit slower) I can live with this
until Trusty.

However, is Invalid the correct status considering it is a valid bug
report? It just happens to be fixed upstream. I guess if you don't have
any other suitable statuses it's fine, but I can see this being
confusing to anyone else searching for this.

[Bug 1249979] Re: r8169 Ethernet driver doesn't work

2013-12-12 Thread Cocodude
I tested this with v3.13-rc3-trusty but r8169 worked just fine along
with DHCP and I was able to ping the outside world. So, it's some commit
inbetween 3.11.0-14-generic and 3.13-rc3-trusty that's caused the issue.

I don't think I'll have time to do a full bisect but I might be able to
try and narrow it down a little if you could provide some pointers.

[Bug 1249979] Re: r8169 Ethernet driver doesn't work

2013-11-13 Thread Cocodude
Hi,

I just tried with 3.12.0-031200-generic and although I don't get the
dmesg errors, it doesn't detect the Ethernet cable or does DHCP client
work. So, the evidence suggests this isn't entirely fixed upstream yet.

uname -a: Linux flibble 3.12.0-031200-generic #201311071835 SMP Thu Nov
7 23:36:07 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Here are the relevant bits of dmesg from the 3.12 kernel:

[0.760049] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
[0.760074] pci :00:06.0: setting latency timer to 64
[0.760321] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APC3] enabled at IRQ 18
[0.760357] r8169 :01:0a.0 (unregistered net_device): not PCI Express
[0.760645] r8169 :01:0a.0 eth0: RTL8169sb/8110sb at 0xc9c72000,
00:21:27:c9:5f:cf, XID 1000 IRQ 18
[0.760648] r8169 :01:0a.0 eth0: jumbo features [frames: 7152 bytes, tx
checksumming: ok]

[ 11.032586] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready

The link doesn't go up with the cable plugged in and I can confirm the
connection is just fine because it works on the motherboard slot (eth1)
still. There are no 'rtl_phyar_cond == 0' warnings any more though.

[Bug 971951] Re: firmware not responding if on demand firmware of cx24116 (/lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116.fw) is present during boot

2012-08-07 Thread Cocodude
My 'unplug the computer' trick seems to work consistently.

However, it's really annoying that when an incomplete shutdown occurs
(e.g. I need to force power off the machine, or the Ubuntu shutdown
process hangs, which it unfortunately seems to very often on my HTPC), I
usually get this error message.

My feeling is that the firmware upload should be completed when the card
is used for the first time. I'm not entirely sure how the firmware
upload routines with in Ubuntu, but relying on the state of the PCI card
does not seem the best way forward.

I thus believe this is a bug. Possibly PCI card related, but a
workaround should be implemented.

2012-07-02 Thread Cocodude
After reading the comment from the linux-media list, I decided to try
and unplug my computer overnight to see if it reset the 'firmware
uploaded' state on my card. It seemed to, so upon booting it up today, I
was able to upload the firmware without any issues. Perhaps it's worth
giving this a try?

[Bug 971951] Re: firmware not responding if on demand firmware of cx24116 (/lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116.fw) is present during boot

2012-06-30 Thread Cocodude
I now have this issue. I haven't yet tested with putting the firmware on
after booting, but I do get the 'firmware not responding' issue and the
card no longer works. It did work until yesterday for some reason under
12.04.

There's an interesting post at http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-
me...@vger.kernel.org/msg19775.html which could well be the issue. I am
going to investigate this further.

[Bug 978728] Re: Google Calendar broken : Unable to create calendar object : The calendar doesn't exists

2012-05-02 Thread Cocodude
Confirmed that this works as expected. I was able to create a new Google
Calendar event in Evolution and it appeared in Google Calendar within
seconds and with no error. Deleting worked as expected too.

For anyone else wanting to test, add the pin to precise-proposed as per
Martin's link and the type the following:

aptitude-update
aptitude install evolution-data-server/precise-proposed
evolution-data-server-common/precise-proposed libcamel-1.2-29/precise-proposed

[Bug 507326] Re: alien crashes when trying to convert an RPM containing %ghost files

2010-05-05 Thread Cocodude
Excellent - this solves the issue I have with using alien on some SLES
11 kernels.

The patch worked a treat. I haven't tested extensively, but it at least
works on the kernel-xen-base package at
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/SLE11_BRANCH/ for x64.

[Bug 398214] Re: Karmic Koala stops dead after /scripts/init-bottom

2010-04-22 Thread Cocodude
Confirmed the issue that panticz.de saw here when using Debian Lenny
with a Ubuntu 9.10 domU. The kernel does indeed need to be upgraded and
I had luck using the OpenSuSE 2.6.27 kernel.

[Bug 405390] [NEW] Ortek Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad - Keyboard does not work

2009-07-27 Thread Cocodude
Public bug reported:

Problem with '2.4GHz Entertainment Slim Keyboard with Smart Touchpad', a
combination keyboard/touchpad produced by Ortek. This is the keyboard at
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158377

Basically, the keyboard section of this device does not work, i.e. no
keypresses are detected. The touchpad part seems fine. The keyboard
correctly works in at least two BIOSs and also under a standard WinXP
install without extra drivers.
