[Bug 528275] Re: Gwibber not adding mentions to indicator-applet

2010-03-10 Thread ConsciousUser
Although the release 2.29.91 says that fixed a bug that prevented
mentions/replies to get added to the messaging indicator and although
Bug 528270 is now fixed, I just tested Gwibber in a freshly installed
Karmic and it's still not adding mentions/replies to the messaging
indicator.

This bug and Bug 420953 are currently making the Gwibber entry in the
messaging menu almost completely useless: its function now is launching
the application.

[Bug 535596] [NEW] Notifications should show generic user icon if user does not have an avatar

2010-03-10 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Currently, if an user does not have an avatar, Empathy shows their
notification bubbles without any kind of icon. This is inconsistent with
the Ubuntu chat theme that is being used in Lucid now, as this theme
shows a generic user icon in those cases. Plus, showing a generic user
icon in the bubble would make more evident that the bubble is coming
from Empathy.

I didn't know this bug already existed, so I now properly marked Bug

I'm also assigning this bug to the Papercuts project, something that was
done in the duplicates and never contested.

[Bug 495671] Re: No login notifications should imply no login indicators

2010-03-05 Thread ConsciousUser
The current situation is probably easy to fix, as it just involves
wrapping the call of empathy_indicator_manager_add_login_indicator in
source file empathy-main-window.c inside an if clause that reads the
user configuration for whether he wants login notifications or not.

As it passes the trivial to fix condition, I'm assigning this also to
the papercuts project.

[Bug 529485] [NEW] Clicking on an application name should hide it if currently in focus

2010-02-28 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-messages

Launchpad Question #102229

https://answers.launchpad.net/indicator-applet/+question/102229

seems to have been overlooked, but raises an important issue.
If a messaging application is currently on focus, its entry on the
messaging menu becomes dead, with no purpose. It would be
interesting if clicking on the item could hide the application, as
this is expected behavior (the tray icons for Empathy and
Gwibber did that before the Messaging Menu was introduced).

[Bug 528249] Re: Gwibber is showing deleted messages permanently

2010-02-26 Thread ConsciousUser
I added in the original report that this happens to me with Twitter but
I didn't test other protocols.

But with Twitter the bug is perfectly reproducible.

1) Ask someone you follow to post a new message.
(alternatively, create a dummy account so you don't
have to bother people you follow)

2) Refresh Gwibber, the new message should appear.

3) Ask that someone to delete the message.

4) Refresh Gwibber, the message stays in the timeline,
but it should disappear.

5) Close Gwibber and open it again. The deleted
message is *still* there.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gwibber

In Lucid Alpha 3, Gwibber is not deleting deleted posts from the
timeline. In Karmic, deleted messages did not disappear with a refresh,
but at least disappeared after you closed Gwibber and opened it again.
Now not even this works, and deleted posts stay in the timeline forever.

[Bug 528302] [NEW] The text field should receive focus automatically

2010-02-26 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-me

In Lucid Alpha 3, this is a problem with both the Me Menu and Gwibber
itself. When Gwibber/MeMenu is opened, the focus is not on the text
field. Thus, I cannot simply open it and start typing. Automatically
focusing on the text field would improve usability.

[Bug 37707] Re: language-selector should not uninstall packages without a warning (allow opt-out)

2010-02-26 Thread ConsciousUser
The problem still exists in Lucid Alpha 3. I installed Ubuntu in French,
and then when I installed support for Portuguese it removed ubufox,
firefox-gnome-support and ubuntu-desktop. The removal is a problem by
itself and it shouldn't be done, but even worse is how it is done in a
completely silent way unless the user clicks on details.

I only discovered it by chance when peeking at the apt logs because of
another issue. Hadn't I discovered it, I wouldn't receive updates to
ubuntu-desktop, which is particularly important during the alpha
testing.

I've confirmed now that this is not just a problem with explicitly
deleted messages. It seems Gwibber currently does not support removal of
posts from the timeline at all. I've added another account (my identi.ca
account), refreshed the timeline (effectively receiving the messages
from the new account) and then proceeded to remove the account. The
posts from the removed account keep appearing in the timeline.

[Bug 420953] Re: Exits on Close instead of Iconifying

2010-02-25 Thread ConsciousUser
This bug is apparently back on Lucid Alpha 3. When I close Gwibber, I
expect it to be minimized to the messaging menu, like Empathy does.
Instead, it's completely closing.

By the way, I had to do a ps to be sure, because of Bug 528239.

[Bug 528244] [NEW] Availability of status changing is inconsistent

2010-02-25 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-me

In Lucid Alpha 3, Bug 442603 is apparently fixed, as setting the status
to Available/Away/Busy/Hidden when Empathy is closed automatically opens
it. However, the status changing options in the Me Menu are grayed out
until the first time Empathy is opened, which seems inconsistent. If the
Me Menu goes as far as opening Empathy if it has been closed, then the
status changing options should be available all the time.

[Bug 528249] [NEW] Gwibber is showing deleted messages permanently

Public bug reported:

In Lucid Alpha 3, Gwibber is not deleting deleted posts from the

[Bug 495671] Re: No login notifications should imply no login indicators

2010-02-14 Thread ConsciousUser
I had an interesting experience with this bug yesterday and
feel it is relevant to mention. A friend once tried to talk to
me via Empathy, but I wasn't at the computer at the time
and didn't return before he eventually went offline. I then
turned off the computer in a rush without verifying the
indicator-applet, effectively losing his message.

(the last part is at least what I think it happened, judging
by the message timestamp)

When I was using the computer again later, I got bitten
by the bug: I clicked on the applet because of a new
Gwibber entry and was fooled by an entry that was there
just because this same friend had just logged in. So
I clicked on the indicator.

Now comes the funny part: because of Empathy logging,
when I opened the conversation window from the
indicator, the last message was his hello from
BEFORE, and thus the fooling was complete. The friend
promptly received a hello from me as a reply from a
message he had sent hours before. :)

I only understood what happened when I actually looked
at the message timestamp.

So, long story short: this bug and Empathy logging is a
nasty combination.

[Bug 500842] [NEW] Notification does not show icon by default

2009-12-27 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

In Karmic, the notification bubbles in firefox-notify do not show an icon.
I believe this is due to download_complete_notify.py searching for
firefox, firefox-3.0 and firefox-icon, while in Karmic what is actually
used is firefox-3.5. Changing 3.0 to 3.5 in the python script solves
the issue.

I can consistently reproduce the bug by ripping a CD with rhythmbox and
trying to use the eject button. After the ripping is done, the button
does not work even after I completely close rhythmbox, although the
eject notification bubble appears. Both lsof | grep /media and lsof |
grep /dev give me nothing.

[Bug 498279] [NEW] Bluetooth device folder pops up automatically, ignoring nautilus preferences

[Bug 495671] Re: No login notifications should imply no login indicators

2009-12-14 Thread ConsciousUser
Sebastien, but *should* login indicators be considered queued messages?
By design, they stay in the applet only for a brief period. Therefore, they are,
from what I could understand, a tool for quick reaction.

When you disable notifications, you are disabling the very thing you are
supposed to react to, because login indicators do not change the applet
icon to draw attention (and rightfully so, they are not that important).

In other words, when you disable login notifications, the only way to use
the login indicators is to be lucky and click on the applet between the
time it appeared and the time it disappears. If you don't receive IMs and
mail very often, this is unlikely to happen and, when it happens, I
believe it can confuse the user like I described in the report.

[Bug 495671] [NEW] No login notifications should imply no login indicators

2009-12-11 Thread ConsciousUser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Currently, if I uncheck the option for receiving notification bubbles
when an user appears online, I do not receive the bubbles but entries in
the indicator-applet keep appearing for a brief period. I think it's
safe to assume that if the user does not want login notifications, he
does not want login indicators either.

I often find myself opening the applet (due to another reason, for
example new email), seeing an entry for someone who just joined there
and thinking huh? did he send me a message and I missed the
notification? just to meet an empty conversation window when I click
the person's name.
