[Bug 1928312] Re: ghost compose window with wayland

2021-05-14 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Exact same problem here but for me it happens with both Desktop Icon NG
extension enabled or disabled. This is pretty annoying since the only
workaround is to logout and login again. And I use Ctrl+Tab a lot which
totally breaks with this bug.

[Bug 1574266] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-04-29 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I get this almost every time after resume. Sometimes I can switch to a
VT and restart Xorg but sometimes only Magic SysRq work to reboot the
laptop. I have never see this issue on this laptop before (14.04 worked
just fine).

[Bug 980925] Re: load avg is near to 1.00 even in case of idle

2012-04-14 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I just noticed the same behaviour on my wife's laptop and mine. Both are
running Precise x86_64 with the latest kernel (3.2.0-23-generic).
Unfortunately, I haven't monitored the load average for ages so I can't
say when the behaviour changed.

[Bug 226784] Re: High load when copying large file to low speed usb device

2011-05-10 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Unfortunately, things seem to be worst with natty. Copying a 700MB file
from the disk to an USB stick (PQI i810plus) freezes the system for
some second every now and then. Load is abnormally high and data
transfer is pretty slow (~1MB/s).

Are there really only 5 people affected by this?

[Bug 363361] Re: Lock screen dialogue freezes on correct password

2011-02-22 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I have this bug on only laptop since several Ubuntu release (maybe since
9.10!?). The unlock screen will stay in the checking... state until I
killall gnome-screensaver from another virtual terminal. After that,
gnome-screensaver will work perfectly (even after suspend/resume). So
this still happens with 10.10.

[Bug 707532] [NEW] Timeline dead after zoom-in

2011-01-25 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openshot

The timeline becomes unusable every time I zoom in. I can reproduce it
without any problems with different videos. This is really annoying
because I need to restart openshot to get it working again. I'll attach
a video which shows the problem.

As you can see on the video, after I zoomed in/out, the timeline starts
to behave abnormally. A restart of the application is required.

[Bug 700288] Re: amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
1. Yes, this is reproducible

2.

* Install amavisd-new using your favorite package manager
* Be sure to have $quarantine_subdir_levels = 1 (or higher). This should be the
default
* Wait for an e-mail to land into the quarantine
* Try to release it with amavisd-release

= File not found because of wrong path. The subdirectory from directory
hashing is missing.

On a default installation, you can find e-mail in the quarantine using:

# find /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/ -type f

I looked a bit at amavisd-release but my Perl knowledge is not that
good. Either amavisd is not returning the right path or amavisd-release
should handle $quarantine_subdir_levels.

[Bug 700288] Re: amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Here is what I get when I increase log_level in amavisd-release:

# amavisd-release badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
 request=release
 quar_type=F
 mail_id=Vzji0yHNymWh
 mail_file=badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
waiting for response
 setreply=450 4.5.0 Failure: File /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
does not exist at (eval 111) line 385, GEN257 line 5.
 exit_code=75

450 4.5.0 Failure: File /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/badh-Vzji0yHNymWh does not
exist at (eval 111) line 385, GEN257 line 5.

So it seems that amavisd-new doesn't look at the right place.

[Bug 700288] Re: amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Sorry... I think this is not really an issue...

I tried to add the subfolder and it found the file:

# amavisd-release I/badh-IGjIOydvUwg0
250 2.5.0 No recipients, nothing to do

Not really intuitive but this seems to be the way amavisd-new works.
Then I googled for the no recipients problem and it seems that in this
case I need to set the recipient explicitly as explained here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/amavis-
u...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg13081.html

# amavisd-release I/badh-IGjIOydvUwg0 m...@mydomain.net
250 2.0.0 Ok, id=rel-IGjIOydvUwg0, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 2.0.0 Ok:
queued as 2B1F721619

Feel free to close this bug and sorry again. By the way, a man page for
amavisd-release with such information could be helpful.

[Bug 700288] [NEW] amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-08 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amavisd-new

amavisd-release does not work when quarantine_subdir_levels is set to 1
(and probably more). This is the default in 10.04 LTS:

r...@rand:/etc/amavis/conf.d# grep quarantine_subdir 20-debian_defaults
$quarantine_subdir_levels = 1; # enable quarantine dir hashing

When trying to release an e-mail, it seems that amavisd returns the
wrong path as you can see below:

r...@rand:/etc/amavis/conf.d# find /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/ -name bad*
/var/lib/amavis/virusmails/V/badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
/var/lib/amavis/virusmails/k/badh-k0IqReVcboI3
/var/lib/amavis/virusmails/x/badh-xDEZb5Q+stEv
/var/lib/amavis/virusmails/I/badh-IGjIOydvUwg0
r...@rand:/etc/amavis/conf.d# amavisd-release badh-k0IqReVcboI3
450 4.5.0 Failure: File /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/badh-k0IqReVcboI3 does not
exist at (eval 111) line 385, GEN182 line 5.
r...@rand:/etc/amavis/conf.d#

The subdir ('k' in this case) is not in the path so it seems that
quarantine_subdir_levels is not taken into account in this case.

My amavisd-new version:

ii  amavisd-new   1:2.6.4-1ubuntu5  Interface
between MTA and virus scanner/content filters

** Affects: amavisd-new (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 660438] Re: Support new compcache-0.6 features

2010-11-04 Thread Cyril Jaquier
The version of compcache included in the Maverick kernel is 0.6. The
sysfs interface is available since 0.7 which doesn't seem to be release
yet:

http://code.google.com/p/compcache/source/browse/Changelog

I think it is better to wait for 0.7 to be integrated upstream. Feel
free to close this bug or rename it.

Thank you.

[Bug 662304] [NEW] Shotwell has no burn to CD/DVD feature

2010-10-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

Shotwell has currently no Burn to CD/DVD feature. Shotwell can export
to disk, upload to facebook, picasa, etc but a lot of users would
probably like to be able to easily burn picture CDs/DVDs. This
enhancement has already been reported upstream:
http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2101

Moreover, I would expect drag and drop to work between shotwell and
brasero. This is not the case with the versions in Maverick.

[Bug 660438] [NEW] Support new compcache-0.6 features

2010-10-14 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

compcache-0.6 has support for multiple /dev/ramzswapX devices. Currently
initramfs-tool only create a single device. I would like to be able to
start my system with 4 ramzswap devices as I'm running a 4 core CPU.

Moreover, rzscontrol should be available in a separate package as it can
be used during runtime to control/query the compcache devices. It is
currently part of initramfs-tools-bin (/usr/lib/initramfs-
tools/bin/rzscontrol).

[Bug 654238] [NEW] Unable to connect to remote printer using computer name

2010-10-03 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I have 2 Ubuntu Maverick laptops. Laptop-1 has a Samsung printer
connected through USB. Laptop-1 allows sharing of this printer. On
Laptop-2 I can ping my other laptop using its name:

$ ping Laptop-1.local
PING Laptop-1.local (192.168.1.37) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from Laptop-1.local (192.168.1.37): icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=65.1 ms

So avahi seems to work correctly on both machines. However, I can't
print to the Samsung printer using this URI:

ipp://Laptop-1.local:631/printers/Samsung-CLX-216x-Series

CUPS doesn't seem to find the printer. Using the IP address work
perfectly:

ipp://192.168.1.37:631/printers/Samsung-CLX-216x-Series

cupsd is linked to avahi libraries so it is maybe a configuration
problem on my side:

$ ldd /usr/sbin/cupsd | grep avahi
libavahi-common.so.3 = /usr/lib/libavahi-common.so.3
(0x7faeedc1f000)
libavahi-client.so.3 = /usr/lib/libavahi-client.so.3

[Bug 242006] Re: scaling_max_freq constantly shifting between minimum and maximum frequency

2010-08-29 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I was also affected by this bug and I just solved it on my Thinkpad T61
by... blowing 3-4 times into the cooling system!!! Lots of dust escaped
so I think my laptop just needs a bit of cleanup ;-) Now bios_limit
stays at the highest level even under high load.

$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/bios_limit
2201000

[Bug 583312] Re: Left mouse clicks not being processed

2010-06-14 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Same issue here. While left click does not work, right click and
keyboard do. Restarting compiz (or switching to metacity) when this bug
occurs does not help. A X server restart should restore the normal
behavior (not tested yet).

[Bug 430011] Re: Huawei E220 and E169 3G dongle do not work on karmic (major regression)

2010-05-03 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Hi guys,

Did you install usb-modeswitch? I have bought a Huawei E1692 the other
day. My old E220 worked pretty out-of-the-box after a firmware upgrade
but the E1692 only showed up as USB storage. Installing usb-modeswitch
makes the device switch to modem automatically (triggered by udev).

[Bug 264443] Re: No support for netscreen

2009-12-14 Thread Cyril Jaquier
In karmic, the vpnc plugin for network-manager contains the patch. So
you can set the option in gconf directly for the corresponding vpnc
profile. But still no GUI option for this :-(

Btw. if you set this option manually, every single change to the VPN
profile will erase it so you need to re-add it again.

devicekit-disks (or something else) mounted the disk automatically.

2009-11-10 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I also upgraded the firmware (using WinXP in VirtualBox) and it seems to
have solved the problem (Huawei E220). Now both mass storage and modem
seems to work.

I think it was clear that all those issues with Huawei modems were
caused by buggy firmwares. But a workaround in the kernel is probably
not a bad idea because most users will not see this bug report or will
not be able to upgrade the firmware.

[Bug 479625] [NEW] Fullscreen always on primary display with TwinView

2009-11-09 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

In TwinView mode (on a Lenovo T61), fullscreen Flash movies are always
displayed on the primary display instead of the screen where the firefox
window is. So I'm unable to watch Flash videos (YouTube, Zattoo, etc) in
fullscreen on an external monitor.

[Bug 418620] Re: Move to pulse audio is not resetting volume levels at ALSA level

2009-11-02 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I expect to have the same audio settings before and after boot. So
resetting to some default values is not a good idea at all I think.

I have a desktop with audio inputs/outputs in front and behind the case.
The front levels are separated from the other levels and I can only
change those levels using alsamixer. In karmic, the front levels are
always set to 0 which is definitely not a good idea as I need to use
alsamixer to change the levels. The pulseaudio sound preferences dialog
does not allow me to change this setting.

[Bug 444597] Re: After upgrade to karmic cups server do not start.

2009-10-27 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Mmhhh... I shouldn't have post this as uninstalling upstart, sysv-rc and
insserv may break your system. Here is more or less what I did:

$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-all upstart sysv-rc insserv

Notice the --force-all flag so you should really know what you are
doing.

sysv-rc complained about some scripts not being able to register (or
something else) into the sysv-rc. I don't remember exactly but you
should also get the warning. The reconfigure trick suggested in this
message did not help so I finally reinstalled or even removed those
packages (I don't remember exactly).

$ sudo aptitude reinstall the_package

or

$ sudo dpkg -r --force-all the_package

The idea is to completely remove upstart, sysv-rc and insserv from your
system and reinstall them. I then had to install sysv-rc manually:

$ sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/sysv-rc_2.87dsf-4ubuntu11_all.deb

and finally install all the missing dependencies with aptitude again.

DO NOT REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM before you get upstart, sysv-rc and insserv
installed again. So again, I don't recommend to do this if you don't
know what you are doing and if you don't know how to recover your
system.

Pulseaudio should start on a per-user session. So I don't think the
pulseaudio issue is related to this one.

Same problem here. Concerning the Eclipse issue there is also a bug at

problem with flash so it is probably not a Java/Eclipse/SWT-only issue.

[Bug 453473] Re: Scripts in /etc/rc2.d/ are not executed

2009-10-26 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Today I upgraded another machine and notice that this bug did not show
up on this one. So I purged upstart, sysv-rc and insserv, reinstall them
and it now works as expected.

Something went probably wrong during the alpha phases. So for me this
bug can be closed.

2009-10-24 Thread Cyril Jaquier
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 430542 ***

I have a similar issue (rc2.d scripts not being executed) since many
weeks. I opened bug #453473.

I tried this after boot:

$ sudo start rc-sysinit
rc-sysinit stop/waiting

and also:

$ sudo initctl emit filesystem

but without success. No scripts in rc2.d is executed. I have no
/etc/inittab and do not use LVM at all.

[Bug 453473] [NEW] Scripts in /etc/rc2.d/ are not executed

2009-10-16 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sysvinit

Since a few days/weeks, scripts in /etc/rc2.d/ (the default runlevel
with upstart if no /etc/inittab is present) are not executed during the
boot process.

I noticed this because cups does not start anymore (see bug #444597),
the cpufreq governor is still performance (ondemand script not
executed), the virtualbox kernel modules are not automatically loaded,
etc. Starting all these scripts manually works.

I tried startpar and makefile for CONCURRENCY but no changes.

$ ll /etc/init/rc-sysinit.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1453 2009-10-14 06:51 /etc/init/rc-sysinit.conf

$ cat /etc/default/rcS
#
# /etc/default/rcS
#
# Default settings for the scripts in /etc/rcS.d/
#
# For information about these variables see the rcS(5) manual page.
#
# This file belongs to the initscripts package.

[Bug 453483] [NEW] Unlock screen hangs in karmic

2009-10-16 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I have enable auto-login in gdm. A pop-up is displayed after boot to
unlock my keyring. If gnome-screensaver locks the screen before I unlock
the keyring, typing my password in the unlock dialog makes me not return
the my desktop. Instead waiting... is displayed and nothing happens.
Switching to vt1 and killing gnome-screensaver allows me to acces my
desktop again.

I strongly suspect that gnome-screensaver (maybe indirectly) is waiting
for the keyring to be opened.

[Bug 444597] Re: After upgrade to karmic cups server do not start.

2009-10-15 Thread Cyril Jaquier
I'm also affected by this bug in karmic since a few days/weeks. I
strongly suspect upstart (or another package related to the new boot
process). I noticed that some if not all scripts in /etc/rc2.d/ are not
executed on boot.

ondemand is not executed. The governor is now set to performance instead of
ondemand on my laptop.
virtualbox-ose is not executed. The virtualbox kernel modules are not loaded at
boot time.

Starting the scripts manually always works (ondemand, virtualbox-ose,
cups, etc).
