[Bug 1779958] [NEW] This kernal breaks a working system
Public bug reported: Symptoms, login screen is wrong resolution on both screens of a two screen system. When I log in resolution is still wrong, screen is duplicated instead of two screens, Cinnamon crashes, and asks if I should restart Cinnamon. Restarting goes back to the same window asking if Cinnamon should be restarted. I have uninstalled this version of the kernal, and system is working again. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779958 Title: This kernal breaks a working system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1779958/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug still exists in Mint 18 Xsane generates the error: "Failed to open device 'avision:libusb:009:003': Operation not supported" The only work around I've found is to us vuescan (commercial software). vuescan even supports transparency scanning, something the sane driver never did, even when it worked. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050011 Title: 1.0.22 incompatible with HP Scanjet 8200 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1050011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 317025] Re: Scroll ball will not scroll horizontally
The problem still exists in Ubuntu 13.10. I was unable to do the requested test in the daily build because the daily build is not functional enough. Booting from the live CD, the mouse did no initially work. I had to unplug it and plug it back in before I could click on the try ubuntu button. Once Ubuntu started, I had no menus at all. I had two icons: Install Ubuntu and examples. Clicking on the examples icon brought up a file browser in a fixed sized window with no window decorations (no maximize, no minimize, no close button) I found a way to run firefox, it also had no window decorations. In an attempt to get a window up with a horizontal scroll bar, I tried typing a URL, and found that the keyboard was not working. At this point I realized I could do nothing usefull with this live CD, ejected it and hit the reset button on my computer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317025 Title: Scroll ball will not scroll horizontally To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/317025/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 317025] Re: Scroll ball will not scroll horizontally
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected possible-manual-nvidia-install ubuntu ** Description changed: This is similar to a bunch of other horizontal scroll does not work bugs, but I did not find any of those that were close enough that I could call this a duplicate. The mouse is a Compaq CPQ750TP. It shows up as Acrox USB PS/2 Mouse when plugged into the PC directly, and ATEN CS1784 when plugged into my KVM (it works identically regardless how it is plugged in). The mouse has a scroll ball and 5 buttons. I have spent quite some time attempting to get the horizontal scrolling to work. I have the following in a .fdi file in the /etc/hal/fdi/policy directory: ?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1? deviceinfo version=0.2 device match key=info.product string=Acrox USB amp; PS/2 Mouse merge key=input.x11_options.XAxisMapping type=string6 7/merge /match /device device match key=info.product string=ATEN CS1784 merge key=input.x11_options.ButtonMapping type=string1 2 3 4 5 10 11 8 9 6 7/merge merge key=input.x11_options.Emulate3Buttons type=string0/merge merge key=input.x11_options.EmulateWheelButton type=string0/merge merge key=input.x11_options.XAxisMapping type=string10 11/merge /match /device /deviceinfo Horizontal scrolling works perfectly on Windows 2000 (different computer, same KVM mouse) Attempting to scroll horizontally in Ubuntu gets fast vertical scrolling. If I monitor events with xinput test 4 Left button maps to button 1, middle button (pushing down on ball) maps to button 2, right button maps to button 3 left side button maps to button 8, right button maps to button 9, vertical scroll with ball maps to buttons 4 5, horizontal scroll with ball also maps to buttons 4 5, but each event is repeated 7 times. It appears as if horizontal scrolling should be mapping to buttons 6 7. The hal file above was an attempt at a work arround to remap 6 7 to 10 11, but the remapping to 4 5 is still happening. Wild speculation: someone has hard wired his preferences into the driver. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 Not sure where this problem is happening, but my guess is evdev. - Horizontal scrolling is very important to me. [Bug 317025] Re: Compaq CPQ750TP scrolling horizontally causes vertical scrolling
When I looked into this (years ago), from what I could tell, windows was enabling a different mode of operation in the mouse, one that sent both horizontal and vertical scrolling data to the computer. Linux was using the default mode which translated virticle scrolling to up and down button presses, and horizontal scrolling to tripled up or trippled down button presses. I was unable to do anything with this in hal. The only thing I have noticed change in the years since I first reported this issue is that more than three buttons became supported on the mouse. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317025 Title: Compaq CPQ750TP scrolling horizontally causes vertical scrolling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/317025/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1242439] [NEW] New menu item goes into wrong menu
Public bug reported: After updating to Ubuntu 13.10, I found that the update had moved a bunch of programs around in my menus. I attempted to move the Main Menu item from the other directory back into the preferences directory where it belongs, but failed. 1st I tried drag drop, but that did not work. next I tried creating a new menu item in preferences, but each time I tried this, it showed up in other instead. I will now figure out where the menu stores its config file and see if I can hand edit it. [Bug 1242273] [NEW] ck-list-sessions no longer prints anything
Public bug reported: I was using ck-list-sessions in a script to determine if anyone was presently logged in. After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 the script stopped functioning. I tracked the failure down to ck-list-sessions not outputting anything. I found that the patch had already been applied to the kernel source I downloaded, but the patch did not fix the problem. In the process of compiling the kernel, it created the folowing packages that I installed: linux-firmware-image_3.11.0-rc6-custom-1_amd64.deb linux-headers-3.11.0-rc6-custom_3.11.0-rc6-custom-1_amd64.deb linux-image-3.11.0-rc6-custom_3.11.0-rc6-custom-1_amd64.deb linux-libc-dev_3.11.0-rc6-custom-1_amd64.deb The instructions I used do not contain instructions on how to revert back to the old kernel and uninstall this stuff. apport information ** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035556/+attachment/3776183/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Description changed: I have a PowerColor AX4850 512MD3-DHO video card, a BenQ XL2420TX monitor, and a Dell 3008WFP monitor. I tried to connect the BenQ monitor with the DisplayPort connection. This video driver did not recognize that there was anything plugged in. Even if the BenQ was the only monitor connected, the OS driver found nothing. The ATI binary BLOB did properly recognize this monitor plugged in to the DisplayPort, but that driver is unusable for other reasons. I currently have this monitor connected via HDMI, but this connection precludes the use of 120 hz refresh and 3D video. I ran the apport-collect command twice, I thought it had failed both times. I got the error dpkg-query: no packages found matching linux Behavior is exactly the same. With only a Display Port monitor connected, I end up with the monitor shutting itself off after the screen with the blurry keyboard symbol at the bottom. [Bug 1035556] Re: 1002:9442 Monitor not detected via DisplayPort [Radeon HD 4850]
Several years ago, before AMD abandoned the Radion driver for this card, I used displayport on a single monitor. I switched to dual link DVM when I added a KVM (was unable to find a KVM that supported displayport at the time, and I needed it to support HDMI). So I don't think I have ever seen the open source driver work with Display port, but for a time the closed sorce driver did. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035556 Title: 1002:9442 Monitor not detected via DisplayPort [Radeon HD 4850] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1035556/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1098937] [NEW] Login screen pretends to be user, screwing up scripts
Public bug reported: When the computer is sitting at the login screen with noone logged in, scripts that run 'w' to find out how many human users are logged in get a report of '1' instead of '0' like they should. An example of a script that does this is the checklogi.sh script here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Using_ACPI_%26_MythTV_to_run_other_applications The checklogin.sh script is used to prevent MythTV from shutting down the system when it is idle if a human user is still logged into the computer. The fact that the GDM login screen pretends to be a user prevents shutting the system down when MythTV is idle and noone is logged in. I have hacked the script on my machine to make this work, but it is not generalized and I can think of several cases where it will fail on a different setup. The script was working on lightdm, but I had to switch to GDM due to a bug in lightdm that sometimes breaks xwindows. I have stripped out the timestamps so I could do a diff of the two log files (there is probably a way to skip the first n charactors of each line in diff, but I did not see it in a quick look at the docs). Attached is a diff of Xorg.0.log files between a good boot, and a boot where the graphics dropped into low graphics mode. The first thing in the log that shows an error is the setversion 1.4 failed. Text of the error message: The system is running in low-graphics mode Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself. Usually before I get the error window, it switches to a text screen where log information is displayed. Near the end of the log are a bunch of [stopping] (or something to that effect) messages these come after a bunch of [starting] messages Both types have an indication of success on the right end of the line. there are no indications of failure. [Bug 1071101] [NEW] nearly every other boot I get Low Graphics Mode message.
Public bug reported: I'm not entirely sure that this is xorg, I can't figure out which log file to look in to find out. The log files with likely names did not give me usefull info. I've seen similar errors, but never the same hardware or circumstanses. Behavior started immediatly after upgrade to 12.10 I'm running GNOME classic (though I think this bug is occuring before this becomes relevent), using an ATI HD4850 video card with open source drivers. About every other boot, I get a white message box telling me that something went wrong and the system will boot in low graphics mode. I'll try and write down the exact message next time this happens. The first time this happend (the next day after upgrading to 12.10, I was able to select the use defaults option to continue. every time after this, the use defaults or use latest backup goes right back to the same question. The only way forward is to boot into low graphics mode. I usually shut down the computer at the login screen when it is in low graphics mode (from the menu, not the switch), and turn the computer back on. This has booted cleanly with the correct graphics mode every time I have done it (about 4 times).
