[Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2013-08-20 Thread Damiano Dallatana
@Alberto: I did a few tests, and it looks like my accounts are going completely
crazy. Maybe it's my home folder's fault, with files dating back to the old
dapper drake :D
However, the login request appears with at least one between evolution
contacts, evolution gmail, evolution calendar, empathy, shotwell enabled. If I
enable one of them, the request appears immediately. Obviuosly I always gave
access before logging out.
The login request is in the form illustrated by the attached screenshot: a new
window appears, and usually I have to enter my credentials in the main window;
every now and then the main window appears black, and the form is in the
secondary window.
I use the two-step authentication from google, and the first time I added the
account it opened a google page in the main window and I had to enter the token
from the google auth app.

I am using a Logitech K800 wireless keyboard and a M310 wireless mouse, and I
found this bug waiting for me after the upgrade to saucy. I did not have any
battery indicator from my desktop pc with raring and with precise.
I attach, as pitti asked, my upower.txt ($ upower --dump /tmp/upower.txt )
and upowerd.log ($ sudo killall upowerd; sudo /usr/lib/upower/upowerd -v 21 |

[Bug 839164] [NEW] [Oneiric] Panel gets focus but stays in the background with fullscreen apps

2011-09-01 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 x64 on a it-IT i18n environment; unity package
version is 0.4.95-0ubuntu1.

Every time I have a fullscreen app, the Unity panel does not show up. I
thought it was simply not activating, but I quickly found out that it is
actually active, but it stays under the fullscreen app. If I click on a
spot where the panel should be (and actually is, even if I can't see
it), I can see the effect of my click.

In particular:
* if I click on the Ubuntu logo (or where it is supposed to be), the unity dash
opens, but still in the background, under the fullscreen app. I can see it open
as the top dark bar becomes aubergine. Still it does not mask the fullscreen
app, and every click goes to the app. You can see the attached image to better
understand.
* if I click on another spot on the (invisible) panel, it launches the app it
has to open, but still doesn't show up until I reduce the fullscreen app.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 835945] Re: [needs quirk] Hansol H750 giving wrong EDID refresh rate

2011-08-29 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Yes, exactly, it's not a bug on the driver; I think fglrx does it well just
ignoring the wrong EDID data and forcing the refresh rate he thinks can work.
I marked the old report as a duplicate of this: I did have only this computer
and no secondary pc nor monitor to test this bug, so I had to wait for months
before filing a complete report... sorry for that, at least now we have a
complete view of the problem :) thanks Tormod :)

[Bug 835945] [NEW] Hansol H750 giving wrong EDID refresh rate

2011-08-28 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

This particular bug I am reporting is killing me from a few years ago,
with every Linux distribution (so, from the removal of xorg.conf). Now
that I have two computers, I can say I did find out the problem.

My monitor is a 17 Hansol H750 LCD, and I cannot use any Linux
distribution without having my monitor say out of range.

I did find out the monitor is reporting a wrong maximum frequency: vfreq
333.176Hz, hfreq 355.166kHz - whilst its maximum is a 70-75 Hz.
I am going to attach the output of get-edid (parsed), ddcprobe, and the
xorg.conf that solved everything.

I am at your complete disposal to solve this particular bug.

[Bug 784520] Re: Unity launcher doesn't autohide; toggling Num Lock fixes the problem

2011-05-23 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I can confirm using a different combination of programs and drivers: here on
Ubuntu 11.04 x64, it-IT i18n, with Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Quassel, emesene,
Empathy, skype open.
Going to add information from apport.
ùToggling bloc num does remove the problem, but if I toggle it on again, the
problem waits a few seconds and is here again.

[Bug 623620] [NEW] Epson Stylus Photo R220 not printing or printing only white sheets

2010-08-24 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS updated as of today, with my Epson Stylus Photo
R220.
After the setup, it always works as expected, connected locally through USB
port or on the network through SAMBA.
But after a few days, it stops working: with OpenOffice.org it prints white
sheets, with other programs such as Evince does not print at all.
I am attaching the troubleshooting log from cups.

[Bug 340602] Re: [RS600] Monitor out of range with Hansol H750 on radeon X1250

2010-04-11 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Sorry for my really late answer, but I was unable to stop using my pc
and make tests for this problem.

Today I put Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 beta 2 on my USB key and I booted on my
pc. While the violet screen did appear, when the boot started the screen
became plainly black (not even out of range). Trying to change tty
with ctrl-alt-F1 or other F buttons did not help at all.

I tried Alberto Milone's hint, but the only thing that changed is that
before plymouth has to start, I see a blinking cursor for a second or
two.

So, if with Karmic and Jaunty booting with my monitor with the live cd
was hard, now it's completely impossible.

As a test, i also booted with the USB key on a new VAIO notebook I am
working on, and everything worked flawlessly.

The hardware status of the pc is always the same: Radeon X1250
integrated video, Hansol H750 LCD monitor.

[Bug 452564] Re: New changelogs don't have lp-links like update-manager

I think this bug can be confirmed: an LP link for unavailable changelogs has
been added in update-manager from intrepid (version 1:0.91.6), but is still
missing in synaptic's changelog viewer.
Can be marked as a wishlist; it should be easy to fix.

[Bug 471044] [NEW] Dropdown menu disappears and applet becomes unresponsive when new event happens

2009-11-02 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

I started using indicator-applet with Ubuntu 9.10, so I do not know if
it's a new bug or an old one.

I am using Pidgin as IM app, and when I click on the indicator applet to
show the dropdown menu, and a contact logs in or writes me, the dropdown
menu disappears, while the applet remains active.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open pidgin (also empathy?) and enable an account with some login/logout
activities
2. click on indicator-applet to show the dropdown menu
3. wait for a contact to login or write something to you

What happens: the dropdown menu disappears, the applet remains active
(brown color on the back). To show the menu again and select something
in it you have to make the applet unactive clicking on it once and click
on it again to show the menu - hoping nobody else logs in before you
click on the event!

What should happen: the menu gets updated with the new event, and stays
open.

[Bug 392265] Re: Unread Messages icon is difficult to distinguish from default icon

2009-11-02 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Yesterday I worked for all the afternoon without even knowing there were
new messages for me to read, as at a fast glance the small icon is
almost the same...

As stated in bug #450825 the new notification icons are not meant to remove all
the colors from there, but to use colors to grab the user attention (eg. red
for errors and warnings).
Now, I think that when new messages are present and unread, the notification
has to grab the user attention: it's what it is meant to do. Obviously, red is
not an option, as it would not be a warning, but why can't we use yellow or
green for indicator-messages-new icon? With low brightness and saturation, it
would still be unobtrusive but could attract the attention of the user
interested in knowing if there are new messages.

[Bug 467654] [NEW] Wrong yellowish colors printing with Epson Stylus Photo R220

2009-10-31 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 updated as of today from beta 6.
With Ubuntu 9.04 I had no problems at all using my Epson Stylus Photo R220. Now
I am unable to have a decent print from Ubuntu.
I tried printing a black and white file made with inkscape, but it became black
and yellow. Tried saving it as a pdf and printing with evince: same problem.
Tried doing a png and printing with GIMP: same yellow print.
Today I saved an Inkscape page (with colors) as pdf and tried printing with
acroread (from Canonical partners' repository): the green becames yellow with
stripes, a blue gradient goes from yellow to pink and violet, and a blue square
becames dark grey.
I tried printing the ubuntu test page and the automatic test page, and they
both come out perfectly.

I am at your disposal for any other information you may need to find out
the problem. I don't want to reboot every now and open windows just to
print a page!

[Bug 340602] Re: [RS600] Monitor out of range with Hansol H750 on radeon X1250

2009-10-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Sorry for the late answer, I had some problems and I did not have time
for appropriate testing.

This particular problem is also present in Karmic beta 1, and it is even
worse: the out of range is present not only when I use the default
graphic driver (radeon, I suppose) but also when I try the safe graphic
mode of the Desktop live cd.

I could not obtain a Xorg.0.log nor a dmesg in Karmic because every tty was
black except for tty1 - but even in tty1 I cannot log in...
I am at your disposal for every test you may need: with this particular bug now
I am not able to load karmic on my pc (the absence of a working tty is only
worsing that problem...).

[Bug 384081] Re: Firefox (Gecko) cutting upper part of some text lines

2009-07-01 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Ok, solved, it was linked to an Helvetica font I did install (using a
low-quality ttf, I think). A lot of sites ask fot Helvetica, so it was used,
and meant many problems (the system did consider it as lower than it was - so,
low text background, low selected text,...).
Thank you very much indeed!
Marking as Invalid, as it's not a FF bug at all.

@ Elton Woo: as of Pidgin 2.5.7 (and higher) - I do not know if it
happens also with the patched 2.5.5 in -proposed, I think so - you have
to remove the @yahoo.ext (Example: user ubunt...@yahoo.co.uk should
insert only ubuntero as his username). Trying login using full email

Se il problema è di pacchetti corrotti nella cache, puoi dare da terminale
sudo apt-get clean

Marking as incomplete, could be invalid as it does not seem to be a

The temporary workaround for Yahoo! connection does not work anymore (as

Could it be updated on 9.04 (and 8.04, it's an LTS...)?

[Bug 390249] Re: Please upgrade to Pidgin 2.5.7

2009-06-24 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Thank you Noel for the instructions. I am in fact using it.
The presence of an updated package in the developers' PPA should not be a
pretext not to release an update or, at least, a backport. There are a lor of
Yahoo! users using Ubuntu who are not going to add a PPA - they do not want to,
or they are not able to.
It is a regression, it should be fixed.

[Bug 126103] Re: should apply icons to xdg-user-dirs

2009-06-19 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I do really agree with Nicolò.

That feature should not reduce the immediate impression that Music or
Video are folders, not apps nor files.

* Full-size emblems w/o folder: seem to be something else (application?)
* Mimetypes: are really misleading, as they only represent a file
* Emblems: the folders keep on showing up as folders, but the emblem is not
shown everywhere (not on panel, menu)
* Appropriate icons in places: it's the most difficult possibility, but it
would be perfect. Obviously, they should not be a mere collage of a folder
and another icon: the style should be that of the home folder icon.

[Bug 384081] Re: Firefox (Gecko) cutting upper part of some text lines

2009-06-18 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I am using 3.0.11 now, and the problem is still here.

In particular:
* the title of the Apache website (The Apache Software Foundation) is always
cut in the upper half (problem of borders/paddings/margins?) - in FF 3 (even in
safe mode), in Epiphany, etc.
* the text cut in other lines and other websites seems to be a rendering
problem: it is usually (not always) a problem linked to scrolling the page.
That problem disappears if I give focus to another window (or if I give focus
to FF if it was not on top), but only for the lines I can see: if I scroll
up/down, some lines are cut.

I am at your complete disposal for any information I could give. Thanks
for your work :)

[Bug 384081] [NEW] Firefox (Gecko) cutting upper part of some text lines

2009-06-05 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

A few days ago some strange rendering errors started appearing casually
on Firefox and all Gecko browsers I have installed (FF 3.5, Epiphany -
not on Midori [Webkit]). I am using FF 3.0.10 on Ubuntu 9.04 with it-IT
environment and amd64 arch.

I attach two screenshots of the main page of the www.apache.org website:
note the title The Apache Software Foundation cut in the upper part
(but also Latest News has the same problem). It seems that removing
the line-height: 1; property for these texts solves the problem.

The same problem happens with the Ubuntu website, but seems to be a
rendering problem (scrolling the page makes the problem appear on other
lines -.-) and the bug disappears when trying to get a screenshot.

[Bug 368906] [NEW] Can not change appointment time

2009-04-28 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Ubuntu 9.04, and today I tried to add an appointment to
Evolution (the folder dates back to -approx. Ubuntu 7.04, and also the
calendar).

Steps to reproduce
1. open the calendar page
2. select date and time for the appointment
3. create a new appointment
  - the mask has not set the starting and ending time, but only the dates
4. try to set starting or ending time
  - nothing is set
5. save the appointment
  - there is no appointment marked, except for List view (Elenco in it-it l10n)
6. try to edit the appointment and set time
  - still nothing modified
7. close the appointment
  - Evo asks for saving changes, whilst there's no change at all
8. try to modify the starting (ending) time of the appointment from the List
view
  - (attached screenshot 1) Evo warns about wrong date format: La data deve
essere nel formato: 1.30 (Date has to be in 1.30 format)
9. try to change date and time of the appointment to Now from the List view
  - (attached screenshot 2) Evo warns about wrong date format: La data deve
essere inserita nel formato: mer 29/04/2009, 0.18.23 (Date has to be inserted
in the format: Wed 29/04/2009, 0.18.23)

The only result is I am totally unable to add new useful appointments to

[Bug 362641] [NEW] [Jaunty] Transparent areas are printed in black

2009-04-16 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 on amd64.

Every time I print an image through The GIMP or eog, the completely
transparent areas are printed in black.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a .png image with alpha areas in The GIMP or eog
2. print it

Expected result: completely alpha areas are white (there should be no ink in
these areas)
What happens: completely alpha areas are #000, complete black.

The printer I am using is an Epson Stylus Photo R220, and this problem was not

The support for amd64 is really important, in particular when the i386 package

[Bug 357949] Re: Pidgin crashes when trying to connect to jabber

2009-04-09 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Stefan: just wait for the update for pidgin to 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8, this
bug is fixed. You may wait for your repository mirror to be updated or
just have to update your local sources and install the updates.

I can confirm it is correctly and completely fixed. Great job!

[Bug 343261] Re: No notification on audio changes (Play, Pause, Next, Previous)

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Well, solving bug #345363 and bug #351986 did remove completely the
notification for audio change notification in g-s-d 2.26.0-0ubuntu3.
In the notify-OSD specs ([1]) there is still the description of the hotkey
notification system, but now it is in fact not working at all by default.
I did think the desired behaviour for notify-osd was to follow the written
specs...

[Bug 345363] Re: [jaunty] Next track notification appears even if nothing listening

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
While it is evident that this bug is solved with latest fix, it does
introduce a regression against the desired behaviour of notify-osd in the specs
page. Now the hotkey actions are not notified at all (again, bug #343261).
The scope of this particular bug was only to make g-s-d wait for a program to
listen and act at a hotkey action before making notify-osd show a confirmation
notification.

[Bug 356297] Re: Set system time doesn't open time configuration

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I can confirm this bug using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on amd64, it-IT l10n.
Steps to reproduce:
1. right click on the clock panel applet
2. select Set time and date (Regola data e ora - Italian)
3. select Set system time (Imposta ora sistema - Italian) button on the
window that opens up
4. Insert your password as a sudoer and authenticate with policykit

What happens:
The first window - Set time and date - closes correctly, but the window where
setting the system date and time does not open.

Expected result: The first window - Set time and date - closes, and a
new window of time-admin opens unlocked, making it possible to set time
and date system wide.

I do not know if this bug is filed against the correct package... Surely
it is not a problem of gnome-applet; trying to file it against gnome-
panel. Could it be a problem with policykit?

[Bug 355330] [NEW] [Jaunty] Calendar applet popup opens under focused windows

2009-04-04 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I am using compiz 0.8.2-0ubuntu6 on Ubuntu 9.04 amd64, it-IT l10n.

With recent updates, I discovered the calendar popup that shows up
clicking on the clock applet of GNOME panel opens under the focused
window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a window and make sure it covers the top-right corner of the desktop
and it is focused
2. click on the clock applet

Expected result: the calendar popup opens on top of the focused window
What happens: the calendar popup stays under the focused window

I attach a screenshot of the problem.
It seems to be the same problem of bug #131050 fixed in Gutsy, and the
workaround described on that bug works for me (clicking on the focused window
after steps 1 and 2 make the popup appear).
I also tried using a Guest account, but I cannot reproduce the problem.

[Bug 351986] Re: Multimedia key notifications are useless

2009-04-04 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Hi Rodney, as far as I can see you pointed out many glitches of the new
notification system.
Many of these are already being discussed in the relevant bug reports:
bug #345363: Next track notification appears even if nothing listening
bug #345296: confirmation bubble is overlapped by notification bubbles
bug #354149: Synchronous notification bubble does not appear under existing
bubble
bug #354339: Notification bubble can change size while Confirmation bubble is
visible
Some of the problems you listed do not have a bug report filed against the
correct package or project.
I suggest you to comment and subscribe to the bugs listed above, and to report
new bugs for the problems you did encounter with the new notify-OSD: a bug
report should list only a problem, without going off-topic.
