[Bug 1738164] Re: [snap] U2F doesn't work with yubikey

2018-11-30 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
This isn’t mentioned in the bug so thought I’d just document it here:

* U2F must be enabled in about:config (security.webauth.u2f;true) before
it will work in Firefox.

[Bug 1116519] [NEW] Allow specifying both directions in one rule

2013-02-05 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

Rules that do not specify directions default to `in` which makes sense
because the default is to only firewall incoming connections. But this
makes it more complicated when blocking outgoing connections by default
as well because there is no `both` alternative to the `in` and `out`
directions.

For example, opening port 22 in and outgoing requires two steps:

1. ufw default deny incoming; ufw default deny outgoing
2. ufw allow out proto tcp to any port 22
3. ufw allow in proto tcp to any port 22

I would like to see this reduced to only one step with the simpler grammar form:
1. ufw default deny incoming; ufw default deny outgoing
2. ufw allow both 22/tcp

[Bug 1102042] [NEW] Open and Save dialogs descends down into sub directory if the selected directory has one sub directory

2013-01-20 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

When selecting a directory that has one sub-directory, the open dialog
descends down into the sub-directory.

1. Make this exact folder structure: ~/a-dir/b-dir/ (only one sub-directory in
a-dir, a-dir can have files)
2. Open the Open dialog and double-click on the a-dir in your Home folder and
click Open

I expect the a-dir to be selected, but b-dir is selected in stead. In
the attached video you can see the a-dir being open, but the selection
clearly uses b-dir instead.

3. Reopen the Open dialog and double-click on the a-dir
4. Type ./ in the Open dialog’s location field

The input in the edit field is automatically changed to ./a-dir/b-dir/.
The only way I have found to actually select the a-dir is to press
backspace once after completing step 4.

Similar behavior can be seen in the simplified dialog (e.g. when selecting
destination for newly opened torrent files in Transmission).

Ubuntu 12.10. Programs affected gedit, transmission, gnome-screenshot, others.

Actual:
I am prompted to create a new Ubuntu One account. (I suspect the intention is
for me to re-authenticate my account, but then this is the wrong dialog for
that.)

[Bug 1096958] [NEW] Significantly lower recommendation score for software that has previously been uninstalled from the system

2013-01-07 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

Software a user have chosen to uninstall should not be put at the top of
the list of software recommendations. The act of uninstalling should
count as a down-vote for that software package.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Clean installation of Ubuntu
2. Uninstall any software package (e.g. `unity-webapps-common`)
3. Open the Software Center
4. Login using a Ubuntu single sign on
5. Enable recommendations
6. Open Recommended for you

What do you know: there is Amazon ‘Unity WebApp integration script’
listed as the number two software I should (re-)install even though I
clearly do not want it on my system.

Ubuntu 12.10, software-center 5.4.1.3

[Bug 1096950] Re: Do not recommend software already installed on the system

2013-01-07 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
** Description changed:

The recommendations in the Software Center are a bit off. This one thing
in particular irks me because there is no value—assuming discovering new
software is the value we are after—to the user to recommend them
software they have already got installed on their system.

I suggest that software that is already installed on the current system
should never be recommended. The software listings even have the little
green check mark indicators showing the application is installed. (See
  attached screenshot.)

[Bug 1096950] Re: Do not recommend software already installed on the system

2013-01-07 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
For example, within the Ubuntu Software Center I am recommended to
install the Ubuntu Software Center. I cannot think of a scenario where
this would be of any use to anyone.

[Bug 1062624] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in compiz::opengl::bindTexImageGLX() from TfpTexture::bindTexImage() from TfpTexture::bindPixmapToTexture() from boost::detail::function::function_invoker

2013-01-05 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
I have a way of reliably reproducing this crash. Verified on different
harware hosts / VirtualBox versions.

1. Add ppa:aeyoun/fluxfonts and install fluxfonts
2. service fluxfonts restart (repeat two–three times in a row)

When I run this in a freshly installed copy of Ubuntu 12.10 in
VirtualBox with low graphics memory (22 mib) I trigger this crash.
Sometime it can crash even when the service starts up as past of the
postinstall process.

The Fluxfont program is a background daemon that installs new fonts to
/usr/local/share/fonts/ every few minutes and then calls `fc-cache
/usr/local/share/fonts/`. It really does not do a whole lot more.

[Bug 1092701] [NEW] Improperly closed tags in XML prevents Help from displaying in Norwegian bokmål

2012-12-20 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

When opening the Help

The below lines contains the problem. Remove the extra spaces and the
problem goes away and Norwegians can get their help page in the Software
Center.

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/raring/software-center/raring/view/head:/po/help/nb.po#L409
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/raring/software-center/raring/view/head:/po/help/nb.po#L498

(Easily fixed, but I am too familiar with the git/GitHub process to
figure out how to suggest the corrections directly in Launchpad.)

To prevent this from regressing in any other language, I suggest adding
a XML sanity test for the generated XML files. Such a sanity check for
validity will easily pick up on simple oversights such as this from the
translators.

The bug is present in Ubuntu 12.10 and in Raring Ringtail (the above
URLs point to the latter.) Software Center version 5.4.1.2, at least.

[Bug 158103] Insist on distribution update on updated system

2007-10-28 Thread Daniel Aleksandersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Adept update manager keeps insisting on updating to Gutsy Gibbon. The
problem is that I am already running KUbuntu 7,10 Gutsy Gibbon!

First I updated from 7,04 to 7,10. That caused a whole lot of hazard
with sound and video playback, other hardware, and much of my software.
So I decided to do a fresh installation after formatting. In both
environments I kept getting bugged by questions to do a distribution
update to 7,10.

The first thing I saw after I had reinstalled the system was a the
update-manager wanting to update my 7,10 system to the new and
improved...7,10 system.

Let me know if more information is needed; and how to get that data.

Hardware: [Standard] Lenovo N100 3000 - Norway localized, Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz,
64 bit edition
Software: KUbuntu 7.10, 64 bit edition
