[Bug 1676912] Re: Kernel 4.9+ regression: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

2017-04-04 Thread Daniel Holz
** Summary changed:

- Kernel 4.10+ regression: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed
+ Kernel 4.9+ regression: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

** Description changed:

Recently I replaced Ubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 with Ubuntu
Gnome 17.04 and since then sometimes my Laptop won't suspend when I
close the lid. The power led does not blink like it is supposed to do
and when I open the Laptop the lockscreen appears but freezes after a
short time, followed by a blackscreen until eventually it reappears and
allows me to unlock it. After that certain application can not be
started anymore and would freeze if they were running before. These
include Chrome, Gedit and Gnome System Monitor for example. Also my
Laptop will not connect to my WLAN until I restart it.

In syslog I found the line:

"Freezing of tasks failed after 20.005 seconds (18 tasks refusing to
  freeze, wq_busy=0):"

  According to syslog

  network-nanaeger
  whoopsie
  cups-browsed
  wpa-supplicant
  geoclue
  packagekitd
  several evolution-related processes
  goa-daemon
  gnome-software
  geary
  dropbox
  deja-dup-monitor

  are responsible.
I tried disabling some of them, but it did not solve the problem.

Update: I tested different Kernel versions in the last days. So far
there were no issues with suspend/resume using Kernel 4.8 and 4.9. The
problem is present in 4.10 and 4.11.

+ Update 2: I just encountered this issue with Kernel 4.9.

[Bug 1676918] Re: Kernel 4.10+ regression: blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend

2017-04-02 Thread Daniel Holz
** Summary changed:

- blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend
+ Kernel 4.10+ regression: blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend

** Description changed:

When trying to resume after suspending my Lenovo Yoga 3 11, sometimes
the screen remains black. The power LED switches from blinking to
continuous light like it should but nothing else happens. The system
does not react to anything. I tried to find something in the logs, but
at least kern.log syslog and xorg.log never have any entries from this
  event.

This problem appeared with Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.04 with Xorg and Wayland.

I'm currently testing Kernel 4.8 from the mainline ppa because of this
other suspend resume bug, that appeared only with 17.04:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1676912
+
+ Update: So far I did not encounter any issues with suspend/resume with
+ Kernel 4.8 and 4.9. This seems to be a regression in 4.10.

[Bug 1676918] Re: blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel Holz
Trying Kernel 4.11 since yesterday. So far no blackscreens but I think I
should test it for a longer duration. Unfortunately Kernel 4.11 is no
real solution for me because of another suspend/resume bug that as far
as I can tell at the moment might exist since Kernel 4.9.

[Bug 1676912] Re: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel Holz
I had some similar suspend/resume issues when trying mainline Kernels in 16.04.
Every Kernel since 4.9 would cause terribly slow system after resuming.
I will test Kernel 4.8 in next days to see if this problem is present there too.

[Bug 1676918] [NEW] blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend

2017-03-28 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

When trying to resume after suspending my Lenovo Yoga 3 11, sometimes
the screen remains black. The power LED switches from blinking to
continuous light like it should but nothing else happens. The system
does not react to anything. I tried to find something in the logs, but
at least kern.log syslog and xorg.log never have any entries from this
event.

This problem appeared with Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.04 with Xorg and Wayland.

[Bug 1676912] [NEW] Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

2017-03-28 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

Recently I replaced Ubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 with Ubuntu
Gnome 17.04 and since then sometimes my Laptop won't suspend when I
close the lid. The power led does not blink like it is supposed to do
and when I open the Laptop the lockscreen appears but freezes after a
short time, followed by a blackscreen until eventually it reappears and
allows me to unlock it. After that certain application can not be
started anymore and would freeze if they were running before. These
include Chrome, Gedit and Gnome System Monitor for example. Also my
Laptop will not connect to my WLAN until I restart it.

In syslog I found the line:

"Freezing of tasks failed after 20.005 seconds (18 tasks refusing to
freeze, wq_busy=0):"

According to syslog

network-nanaeger
whoopsie
cups-browsed
wpa-supplicant
geoclue
packagekitd
several evolution-related processes
goa-daemon
gnome-software
geary
dropbox
deja-dup-monitor

are responsible.
I tried disabling some of them, but it did not solve the problem.

[Bug 1600206] [NEW] password prompt for network share during boot screen does not react to text input

2016-07-08 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from trusty to xenial on reboot a password prompt for my
network share appeared. Unfortunately I could not enter anything. To fix
it I had to use a live usb stick to remove the entry I created for it in
/etc/fstab.

The network share did not cause any problems with trusty and did not use
a password.

QT_IM_MODULE=maliitphablet qmlscene

Works for me too, but

GTK_IM_MODULE=maliitphablet gedit

does not.

Might be a problem with the gtk module.

Is there any way to unhide the keyboard manually for usage with
unsupported applications like chrome or steam or to bypass the problem
with gtk?

[Bug 1572653] [NEW] keyboard does not show up on xenial

2016-04-20 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour:

Install ubuntu-keyboard, run maliit-server, click on place to enter text
-> keyboard shows up.

What happens:

Running maliit-server after installing ubuntu-keyboard-english in
terminal shows following error:

WARNING: void MIMPluginManagerPrivate::_q_setActiveSubView(const
QString&, Maliit::HandlerState) "libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so" "en" is
not enabled

Clicking on fields for entering text, does not cause the keyboard to
show up.

What I tried so far:

export QT_IM_MODULE=Maliit
export GTK_IM_MODULE=Maliit

and

gconftool-2 -s --type list --list-type string /maliit/onscreen/enabled
"[llibubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"
gconftool-2 -s --type list --list-type string /maliit/onscreen/active
"[libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"

according to

https://github.com/maliit/framework

and

https://github.com/maliit/plugins

but it still won't show up.

[Bug 1316901] Re: Wrong screen rotation at login

2014-06-15 Thread Daniel Holz
I think I found a workaround: an init-script, that removes monitors.xml
and monitors.xml.backup on shutdown and reboot.

Start Gedit as root.

sudo gedit

Copy the following lines

#!/bin/sh
rm /home/USERNAME/.config/monitors.xml
rm /home/USERNAME/.config/monitors.xml.backup
rm /var/lib/lightdm/.config/monitors.xml
rm /var/lib/lightdm/.config/monitors.xml.backup
exit 0

Exchange USERNAME with your own and save the script in /etc/init.d.
File-name doesn't matter. I called it orientation.

After that make the script executable.

sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/orientation

And create a link to the script, so it gets executed on shutdown an reboot.

sudo update-rc.d orientation start 1 0 6 .

[Bug 1316901] Re: Wrong screen rotation at login

2014-06-13 Thread Daniel Holz
I think I finally found the reason for the problem. Everytime the
orientation is changed the new orientation is saved in monitors.xml
while the original monitors.xml is saved as monitors.xml.backup. By
playing around with chattr I found out that this causes Ubuntu to try to
restore monitors.xml out of monitors.xml.backup after every login.

So if I turn the screen to the left and then back to normal,
monitors.xml says orientation=normal and monitors.xml.backup says
orientation=left. After the login Ubuntu overwrites monitors.xml with
the backup and uses its configuration and turns the screen to the left.

[Bug 1316901] Re: Wrong screen rotation at login

2014-06-08 Thread Daniel Holz
The thread in the Ubuntu forum was created by me. :D

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 on my a tablet and whenever I turn the screen
with the accelerometer, the screen is turned after the next login again.
That even happens if I turned the screen back to normal again before.

If I delete monitors.xml everything works fine.

Isn't pm-utils responsible for Suspending and Hibernation, too? Removing

Sadly, staying with it only consumes slightly more power on my tablet

Oh, yes I forgot to mention that I had installed the Debian package
because of the problems. According to the developer page it usually
works better than the on in the Ubuntu repository. Because it didn't
help I'm using the one from the repository again which still gives me
same problems.

mt-config-gui doesn't give me an apply-button at all.

2014-04-14 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

Changes in the configuration of laptop-mode-tools through lmt-config-gui
or manually editing the config-files in /etc/laptop-mode files has no
effect.

Also the laptop-mode-tools specific energy saving tweaks are only
applied if laptop-mode is restarted manually after login.

My current workaround:
Deleting modules of laptop-mode-tools which cause problems for me from

[Bug 1123943] Re: Chrontel CH7036 chip not supported

2014-02-02 Thread Daniel Holz
Yeah there are many tablets like this. They are alll based on the
Pegatron Lucid and sold under the name ExoPC, WeTab, Ciara Vibe, JS-Tab,
W8Pad etc. Most come with Windows 7 but the WeTab came with its own
Meego-based OS which had drivers for everything in the tablet.

Did you try some configuration options in /etc/chrontel-wetab.conf?

You could try the -Enumber 1-6-parameter for forcing some test edid numbers.
Maybe with that the driver ignores the missing signal.
If that doesn't work you can force one of the following resolutions

0 - HDMI 640x480
 1 - HDMI 720x480
 2 - HDMI 1280x720
 3 - HDMI 1920x1080
 4 - HDMI 1920x1080
 5 - HDMI 720x576
 6 - HDMI 1280x720
 7 - HDMI 1920x1080
 8 - HDMI 1920x1080
 9 - DVI 640x480
10 - DVI 720x480
11 - DVI 720x576
12 - DVI 800x600
13 - DVI 1024x768
14 - DVI 1280x720
15 - DVI 1280x1024
16 - DVI 1440x900
17 - DVI 1680x1050
18 - DVI 1920x1080
19 - DVI 1600x1200
20 - DVI 1600x1200
21 - DVI 1600x1200
22 - DVI 1920x1200

with -Mmodenumber.

Even though the linux driver is a piece of crap it offers much higher
resolutions. :D

Firefox needs endless time for starting or sometimes freezes while
starting.

This problem occured to me with 13.04 and 13.10 but only on my Wetab (a.k.a
Exo-PC, a tablet with netbook hardware) not on any of my other computers.
According to users of the wetab-community-forum this problem occured to them
too with Ubuntu. Other distributions/operating system don't have this problem.

I think I have the same bug with my WeTab. After logging in everything works
but after a short time I can´t left-click anything in the starterbar on the
left, the top bar, the unity dashboard and any non-gtk-application. For
example: Chrome and Firefox don´t work but Epiphany does.
Does someone know if and how that patch works? I have no idea how to use it.
