[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2018-12-21 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
I went the sudo apt remove way. I'm like many Ubuntu users, creature of
habits and obsessions. The $HOME is really a home for me, I like it tidy
in clean. I can't stand somebody putting a shelf in the middle of my
room and "deal with it" ... I love Ubuntu so please remove this shelf
off my room and put it in the closet.

[Bug 871985] Re: The printing panel shouldn't display errors about firewalld not running

2011-10-17 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
@Leon : thank you it works. I logged in Unity 2D session and added the
printer, then its available in the fallback session and I'm able to
print.

@Seb : I agree with you if I use defaults it works. But my hope was
that 11.10 will be user friendly with or without the use of Unity. In
this case if I don't use a Unity session I can't add a printer the
user friendly way.

[Bug 871985] Re: The printing panel shouldn't display errors about firewalld not running

2011-10-14 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
How this bug can be flagged as importance:Medium ? Many of us can't work
without a printer. At work I have access to only network printers. Just
upgraded to 11.10 and have to revert ... . Is there any tutorial or
workaround to fix this before official fix released ?

[Bug 312104] Re: [jaunty] Gnome cannot access Internet (IPv6 ?)

2009-02-11 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
I just upgraded to jaunty and I confirm this bug, pidgin refuses to
connect to ICQ account. Firefox was unable to resolve almost any url.
network.dns.disableIPv6 = true, fixed it. I haven't found yet another
applications that reproduce the same problem.

[Bug 313218] Re: IPV6 causes slow internet access

2009-02-11 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
I'm also experiencing this issue. I just upgraded to Jaunty and tested
the following applications :

- apt, Failed to fetch
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/Release.gpg Could not resolve
'archive.ubuntu.com'
- pidgin, connects to GTalk (gmail.com), but refuses to connect to ICQ
(login.messaging.aol.com)
- firefox very slow, almost unusable until I set network.dns.disableIPv6 to true
- rhythmbox listening radio works without any problem
(http://mp3.live.tv-radio.com/franceinter/all/franceinterhautdebit.mp3)

I think this bug is very annoying because some network services (like
messenger for example) are very important for most users. I have
attached ifconfig, if you need further info, don't hesitate.

Regards,

2008-12-10 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
I'm on Intrepid up to date, and while trying to compile PHP-GTK I have
the same error. My version of php5 package is 5.2.6-2ubuntu4. The fix :

cd /usr/share/aclocal

Didn't make a difference. I think this bug should be reopened.

Thank you in advance.

[Bug 107807] Re: [3c900B] NETDEV WATCHDOG: transmit timed out/ Resetting the Tx ring pointer

2008-10-27 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
I have created a new bug report : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/289581
, which looks very similar to this one. In my case the log files has grown very
very quickly in 2-3 hours (I'm not quite sure for the exact time) syslog,
messages and kern.log were each 1.1 GB. My system began to act strangely and
some services refused to start due to lack of free space on my file system. I
think this is a very important bug.
I have rebooted in safe mode and in the console I truncated the largest files
to 0.

Take a look at my bug report here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/289581 I have attached chunks of
my log files.

System : 8.10 up to date
$ uname -r
2.6.27-7-generic

If you need more info don't hesitate to ask I have made a back up of all
log files.

[Bug 289581] [NEW] extremely large log files in /var/log

2008-10-26 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
Public bug reported:

I ran out of disk space in the root filesystem folder, and after
analysing the disk usage I have noticed that my /var/log folder is
enormous - 3.3 GB. The following output giver more information

$ ls -Slh /var/log/ | head

syslog, messages and kern.log are each 1.1 GB . I have looked at the
first and last lines in the files nothing unusual. I have backed up
theese files to investigate them. If you have any ideas don't hesitate
to ask for further info.

I think this is the the problem. I have also counted the lines in
syslog, kern.log and messages which contain bad: scheduling from the
idle thread :

$ more syslog | grep bad: scheduling from the idle thread | wc -l
874141
$ more kern.log | grep bad: scheduling from the idle thread | wc -l
874140
$ more messages | grep bad: scheduling from the idle thread | wc -l
146230

Maybe 874141 messages of 10 lines can make a log file be 1.1 GB. I add
as attachement (in the bug report) the first and the latest 1000 lines
of the respective log files :

head1000lines-kern.log.txt
head1000lines-messages.txt
head1000lines-syslog.txt
tail1000lines-kern.log.txt

I tried also :

I'm running the same kernel as before. I have also noticed that

[Bug 263555] Re: [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk

2008-09-24 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
All this is just crazy!

I'm testing Intrepid since Alpha 3, I have done testing on all Ubuntu
releases at very early stage (Alpha 2) starting from 6.10. I'm not
developer myself and the only way I can help improve Ubuntu is to test
and submit bugs. I assume that I can loose some data and on regular
basis I won't be very productive on the testing machine, I'm ok with
that. BUT damage my hardware is something different, my machine costs ~
2500 $ (ThinkPad T61p). I just upgraded the kernel this morning via
synaptic, sometimes I don't even bother to check what's upgrading,
because I ASSUME that Alphas can damage my data (which is backed up
daily). When I submited a bug (duplicate of this one) this morning I saw
the danger. I'm currently on Intrepid with the old kernel (2.6.27-3),
and luckily my ethernet adapter is running well.

I'm sorry to say that but I think this will be the last time I'll run
Ubuntu Alpha on my machine. I'm willing to help, but I have to be 100%
sure that Ubuntu developers have very CLEAR policy on what will be
pushed in the repositories for testing.

Regards,
Daniel

[Bug 256428] Re: Lightning extension will not properly display calendar

2008-09-15 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
The Generic PCL6/XL pxlmono works great in color, in 1200DPI and very
quickly.

So it seems that using this driver would be a perfect solution. So far,
I don't see any drawback. (any reason why using Postscript would be
better than this ?)

[Bug 228989] [NEW] [Hardy] Adding Krita installs only krita-data

2008-05-10 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

When I added Krita via Add/Remove the only package installed was
krita-data which is not sufficient to run krita. The menu entries are
created and all seems to be ok, but the user gets Failed to execute
child process krita (No such file or directory), which is normal if not
all packages are installed.

[Bug 204479] Re: PHP should be shipped with magic_quotes_gpc = Off in php.ini

2008-05-04 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
Ubuntu ships with version PHP6, and it's likely that before 8.10 there will
be no PHP6, so this is an issue.
I reiterate my point. Novice developers will learn PHP with bad configuration,
they won't (or badly) escape variables = create security holes in their
applications. Other developers will simply edit php.ini after fresh install.
To fix this bug by yourself it's very easy, but it's Important that Ubuntu
offer good packages by default. Why don't fix that ?

[Bug 158392] Re: a ubuntu thame with dark background

2007-11-25 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
+1 , as a developer I spend 6 to 10 hours in front of the screen almost
everyday. Dark background is more friendly for the eyes, what I do at
the moment is install ubuntu studio theme and modify it a bit to fit my
needs. It will be great if the artwork team work a bit on an EYE
FRIENDLY theme. There are some problems with dark backgrounds
especially when browsing the web or using some programs that not
integrate well with the gnome desktop, but globally almost all the apps
included in the default desktop are looking good and fully useful with
dark background.

[Bug 123311] Re: [GUTSY] thunderbird crashed [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2007-07-01 Thread Daniel Stoyanov
The crash happend only on the first run of thinderbird after installing
it on a fresh Tribe 2 install. I installed the package thunderbird.
Everything is working for the second run. I can't reproduce this bug.
Even if I remove and reinstall thunderbird the bug doesn't reappears.
It's really on the first run.

Don't hesitate to give me a hint if I can do anything further to help.

Thanks
