[Bug 409797] Re: [karmic kubuntu] high cpu usage after suspend to ram

2009-11-02 Thread Datadog
Confirm this bug as well. I'm running Karmic with the ATI Proprietary
drivers. Xorg CPU usage hovers from 25-75% This is a fresh install of
Karmic, not an upgrade from Jaunty. While the computer remains usable,
I am experiencing laggy screen draws, including lags when typing in
shell windows (through X) between when I type and when the keystroke
shows on-screen. CPU usage seems to build over time too. After a fresh
login, levels are normal and the system is responsive. Over the course
of time, however, usage increases and responsiveness decreases. I'll
check to see if it's related to Firefox being open, but FF's CPU usage
is normal

[Bug 373402] [NEW] libcurl3 depends on ca-certificates, but doesn't list it as a dependancy

2009-05-07 Thread Datadog

[Bug 191783] Re: window title changes cause window decorator to render poorly

2009-01-29 Thread Datadog
It appears that nVidia driver 180.22 fixes this problem. Here's one of
the bullet-points from their changelog for this driver version:

Fixed a regression that could result in window decoration corruption
when running Compiz using Geforce 6 and 7 series GPUs.

They should probably change that could to a would, as it seemed that
it was pretty much a guarantee that it would corrupt window decorations.
Anyhow, good to see that it appears to finally be fixed. Hopefully they
won't re-introduce the regression again in a future release, and if they
do, hopefully it won't take so many versions before it's finally fixed
again.

[Bug 309881] Re: Printing multiple pages on HP printer

2008-12-19 Thread Datadog
I have the same problem with both printers configured on my system,
however the collate fix only works for one of them.

I'm using a LaserJet 4250n, connected using IPP printing (JetDirect).
I'm also using a Toshiba eStudio 451c, connected as well using IPP.
Selecting collate in the print dialog will cause the HP to print the
requested number of copies. However, the trick doesn't work for the
Toshiba. I haven't found a way to get the Toshiba to print more than
one copy at all yet. I have had these printers configured and working
without problems for at least 3 years now and this problem only started
after upgrading to 8.10. They were both working as expected under 8.04.

Jos: I've attempted changing my window borders (or completely changing

[Bug 99508] Re: Titlebar incorrectly drawn with geforce 5/6/7, compiz and human-theme

2008-10-30 Thread Datadog
This thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=104822
explains that a regression was introduced after 169.04 into the official
nVidia drivers. Essentially, all drivers 169.07 and newer have this
problem.

Also, according to this thread:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=120829#13
nVidia is aware of the issue, a patch that was a partial fix made it into the
release of Intrepid. All working work-arounds mentioned in these threads
have made it into the final release of Intrepid as well, so it appears.

I'm going to post my AOL! (me too!) comment here as well. Even with the
fixes mentioned in these threads, I am still having window border
rendering issues and am now unable to downgrade to working nvidia
drivers as they're not compatible with the version of xorg shipping in
Intrepid.

[Bug 247290] [NEW] Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1 upgrade uses wrong disklabel in menu.lst

2008-07-10 Thread Datadog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-server

I recently upgraded a server from Hardy 8.04, linux-
image-2.6.24-16-server to the latest 8.04.1 linux-image-2.6.24-19. In
the course of the upgrade, it changed the menu.lst file. In the course
of changing the menu.lst file, the upgrade changed the root= parameter
of the kernel from the actual partition (in my case root=/dev/sda3) to
root=LABEL=/1. Rebooting after the upgrade yielded an unbootable
server. This is the first time I've experienced this issue when
upgrading a kernel, where the installer script doesn't migrate my grub
settings correctly. I find this interesting behavior, especially for a
server version of an LTS release.

Re: [Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-27 Thread Datadog
Just a follow-up. Installing the 'xserver-xgl' package solved the window
border problem for me. I don't see this as a 'solution' to the issue, as
this issue didn't present itself when I was running Gutsy and I was not
running xserver-xgl before today. However, this 'solution' has presented
another problem. Running glxgears now crashes X for me, with the following
error in /var/log/messages:

[Bug 191783] Re: window title changes cause window decorator to render poorly

2008-05-27 Thread Datadog
I too am still experiencing this bug after the latest kernel updates.
Two things I've discovered about this bug:

1) Reverting back to version 169.04 (or earlier) of the nVidia drivers fixes
the problem. The problem seems to present itself in every version later than
169.04 with Hardy.
2) Installing xserver-xgl gets rid of the problem.

I consider both of the above actions to be work-arounds, as opposed to
fixes. The newest drivers definitely have noticeable performance gains
over the 169.04 drivers. installing xserver-xgl makes X crash for me
when trying to run glxgears with the following message in
/var/log/messages:

May 27 11:25:19 usagi kernel: [ 254.600717] Xgl[7547]: segfault at
0cf8 eip b7a97b0a esp bf8ed700 error 4

My thought is that there might be a regression in the nvidia drivers,
since the problem disappears with the older drivers. But I'm not a
developer, so...

I have other posts regarding this issue in bug #186382

Re: [Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-05 Thread Datadog
That is correct, xserver-xgl uses the Mesa OpenGL drivers, and doesn't use
your nvidia drivers. Again, this seems to point in the direction that
NVidia's drivers are at fault for this problem.

On Mon, May 5, 2008 at 9:58 AM, Vittorio Ballestra

One for all: installing xserver-xgl package IS NOT A FIX. Because it

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-03 Thread Datadog
Chris Coulson: The fix mentioned here (changing the libwfb.so link)
didn't work for me. I still was experiencing the same disappearing (or
other wonky-ness) window-borders after changing that link with the
restricted drivers. I had read in some other places that some people
have experienced this problem since 169.04 and that that version was the
last known good version that nobody experienced this problem with. I
believe I read this on the Compiz / Compiz Fusion forums. It's been a
known issue with them for a while and it affects distros other than
Ubuntu. IIRC the Compiz team points the finger at Nvidia on this one.

But, it is odd that it worked fine in Gutsy (using the restricted
drivers) then it ceased to work in Hardy, even after this fix.

Downgrading to Nvidia driver release 169.04 fixed this problem for me.
I was not experiencing this problem under Gutsy, but only started

driver issue if downgrading from 169.12 (Ubuntu's version) to 169.04
(Nvidia's version) fixed the problem.
