[Bug 438622] Re: Seahorse gives conflicting information about ID photos
I’ve just done a quick check. I tried to add a large JPEG. Seahorse said it needed to be 120×150, offered to resize it, but then actually made it 154×115. It is still being inconsistent. I don’t think this bug has been addressed. [Bug 493436] [NEW] Strange log-in behaviour
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I have installed Karmic on four machines. On two, it was a fresh installation; on another two, it was an upgrade from Intrepid. GDM works fine on the upgraded machines. On the fresh ones, I have been seeing weird behaviour from GDM. The name of the user that I created during installation does not appear. It just says ‘Other’ instead. However, it says the proper name in a tooltip if I hover over it, and if I click on it, it asks me for the password for that user and lets me log in. If I create several users, they all appear, but there is still an ‘Other’ which logs in the first user that I created. If I delete a user, they still appear in the list. Karmic seems to have removed the ability to configure GDM, so I don’t know what to do. I’m considering copying /etc/gdm/ from the computers that work to the computers that don’t. All machines are fully up to date. [Bug 486593] [NEW] Random X crashes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I've just (freshly) installed Ubuntu Karmic on my in-laws’ computer. I was hoping to impress them with Linux goodness, but unfortunately we are facing frequent random crashes. Half the time the X session ends without warning, returning us the GDM log-in screen. Half the time the system totally freezes, accepting no more input of any kind. I've noticed that it happens very very frequently if I open the Language Support window (I needed to install Japanese support). Please tell me how to collect data to help you in ascertaining the cause. [Bug 466039] [NEW] cdromupgrade script does not upgrade offline
Public bug reported: I’m upgrading to Karmic Koala as I type. I downloaded the Alt CD torrent last night, and then followed the instructions for an offline upgrade. I want to get to Karmic quickly, and worry about updating the system later. However, it is now downloading thousands of packages. [Bug 92248] Re: evolution is really annoying when GPG data has a picture in it
I don't believe that this is an Evolution issue. I have been having the same problem with Thunderbird (with the Enigmail add-on). If you have specified in your ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf file that you want to see ID photos, then such photos will pop up in the default image viewer (xloadimage, eog, or display) every time something is decrypted or verified. This is independent of the frontend you are using. I think the solution is to disable this feature in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf (it is disabled by default), and implement the displaying of photos separately in each app that requires it (Evolution, Thunderbird, etc). That way, they can be displayed in an attractive and user-friendly way (in the top-right corner of the e-mail, for example) instead of annoyingly popping up. -- evolution is really annoying when GPG data has a picture in it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92248 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 438622] [NEW] Seahorse gives conflicting information about ID photos
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: seahorse PGP specifies 120×144 as the maximum image resolution for ID photos, whilst GPG recommends the usage of 240×288. Seahorse, on the other hand, tells you to make your JPEG 120×150! I read this, and so went to GIMP to edit my photo. However, Seahorse still told me to make it 120×150, even though those were its exact dimensions! I eventually tried saving it at 20% JPEG quality, and Seahorse accepted it. It is clear that Seahorse was doing a filesize check on the image, and wrongly claiming that image dimensions were the problem. I then tried a PNG version of the same photo. It was accepted without complaint. However, when I looked, I realised that it had be automatically converted (without telling me) into a low-quality JPEG. Strangely, the dimensions of this JPEG were 192×192, for 7.6kB. It didn’t bring it down to the 120×150 it claimed it wanted. [Bug 303624] [NEW] Cannot log out of Secure Session
Public bug reported: I often use the Secure Session option in KDM or GDM to log on to my main computer from my laptop. When I've finished, I try to log out, but it just blacks the screen. [Bug 298334] [NEW] Misspelling in ffmpeg2theora
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ffmpeg2theora The ffmpeg2theora (0.19-1) command has just given me this error message, amongst others: “mdb:43, lastbuf:0 skiping granule 0” What I'm reporting is “skiping”, which is presumably supposed to be “skipping”. [Bug 284325] [NEW] libpng12-0 could do with an extra symlink for compatibility
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpng12-0 I've just installed the drivers for my Canon Pixma MP160 printer-scanner from the Canon website. The drivers are in .rpm format, which I converted to .deb with Alien. When I ran the scanner program, it failed, citing a missing library. I fixed the problem by creating a symlink from /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 to /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0.27.0. The program now works perfectly. The libpng12-2 package already installs a symlink from /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 to /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0.27.0. It would be good if the symlink that I created could be in that package by default too. Then other Canon users won't have the same problem. Unless this would create a conflict with some other program, I think it should be implemented in Intrepid before the end of the month. I'm pretty sure that I used these same drivers on Hardy without tweaking, so I suppose that the symlink must have been removed from the Intrepid version. [Bug 283726] [NEW] Too many message balloons on default Kubuntu desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: adept-notifier I've just freshly installed from the Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex beta release. It is noticeable that the system tray contains a couple of message about English language support not being fully installed. First of all, I don't know why it's alerting me to that. There are very many packages not installed by default from the CD, and language support is definitely not the most urgent one to install. There are also messages alerting me to other packages that can be updated. The really annoying thing is that as the minutes go by, and I configure the system to my liking, more and more of these messages come up. They sit in the system tray in the form of hot-air balloons (or perhaps they are supposed to be light bulbs). Right now, as I type, there are eight hot-air balloons and a gearwheel. The same thing happened recently when I installed the 64-bit version. I ended up just removing the Adept updater completely. ** Affects: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Too many message balloons on default Kubuntu desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 283726] Re: Too many message balloons on default Kubuntu desktop
Well, obviously I have now upgraded all upgradable packages, so the upgrade balloons have gone away. The point is that upon installation of a new system, a newbie is presented with all those balloons. But if you're telling me that you're sure that the next CD image that you release will not have this problem, then good. I don't think you can speak of “after beta” in the past tense, because Kubuntu will surely be in beta until the release on 30/10/2008. -- Too many message balloons on default Kubuntu desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was about to report this bug myself. dpkg ought to be patched so that on Ubuntu it tells the user to use “sudo”. This is not a matter of opinion. [Bug 282604] [NEW] Ubuntu fails to shut down
Public bug reported: When I installed from the Kubuntu Intrepid Beta 64-bit CD, everything seemed to work fine. However, I have installed all the updates in Synaptic, and this has broken something. When I try to shut down the system, KDE shuts down OK, and I get a console window giving me the details of various other things that are shutting down. At the top, I can see “usplash: setting mode 1152x864 failed”. There are various other lines, and then it hangs on “* Shutting down ALSA”. At that point, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace seems to kick it into finishing its job, sometimes. It then proceeds to the Usplash screen with the Kubuntu logo, and eventually shuts down, but immediately restarts. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu fails to shut down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282604 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 281027] [NEW] OpenOffice Calc contains Space Invaders
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org It's bad enough that OpenOffice is so bloated in order to make it fully compatible with legacy Microsoft products, but it just takes the biscuit when they deliberately put nonsense in. Insert “=GAME(StarWars)” into an empty field in Calc, and you'll be subjected to an amateurishly-implemented space invaders clone, in German.
