[Bug 1078679] Re: Gnome fallback - intermittent menus on top panel

2015-03-24 Thread David Groos
Had this exact problem--is disruptive in a classroom for sure. Details
on alkisg solution in #8 above:

He says:
...Create /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/local/bin/gnome-panel, with the following
contents:...

Another way to say this would be:
1. ...Create /usr/local/bin/gnome-panel, with the following contents:...
2. ...Re-build the image

(then this script just created will be in the image at
/opt/ltsp/i386...)

At least this is my understanding! Thanks alkisg and vagrantc!

[Bug 1245251] Re: Apparmor blocks usb devices in libvirt in Saucy

2013-11-18 Thread David Groos
Hello libvirt people,

I've been experimenting with kvm with saucy host and guests in the last
couple days. I ran into the problem where, while the desktop vm launched
correctly, I was unable to type in my password or click into that field
--usb seemed to not work. So, I followed the directions in #13 and it's
links and did the EnabledProposed. I installed the
libvirt/1.1.1-0ubuntu8.2 package, but it didn't work at first. Now, I
don't know if it would have at that point if I had added the USB
controller (I think it was, I'm not in front of that computer now) at
that time and set it to USB 2, but anyway, at first it didn't work. So
then I installed all of the regular kvm packages in the proposed group
that had the -0ubuntu8.2 numbering, I think there were 5 altogether.
Anyway, after I added these 5 proposed packages, added the USB
controller and set to USB 2, it work great. I wish I had more precise
details. I'm now using one vm for a saucy desktop with spice and also
have a 12.04 vm server using a .vdi that I imported from vbox (after
converting to .gcow2). Thanks for your work. Let me know if I can
provide further info.

[Bug 495661] Re: Sound playing in LTSP clients using jaunty and gnome crash after a while using any player

2010-03-15 Thread David Groos
I'm running Jaunty as thin clients in my classroom and have the same
issue. I've noticed since first boot that the boot sound is often
corrupted. It has problems in different ways. Sometimes it will sound
like popping or firecrackers in the background. Sometime the sound will
cut off half way through the launch. Sometimes there will be no sound.
I've never heard it play perfectly--the most common is the firecracker
sound in the background.

I was just trying to play Rhythmbox and it worked fine for 5 seconds
then froze. I force quite it. I can restart it, but there is no sound
when a song plays. Also, when I go to Preferences/Sound and try and
test one of the sound players, any one, they all give an error message
such as this one:

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect: Connection refused

All error messages talk about 'Connection refused'.

I've had this issue for months but it hasn't been a critical
functionality but it would be great.

[Bug 480070] Re: Lock option in context menu doesn't become Unlock when locked

2010-01-29 Thread David Groos
I agree, it should toggle depending on the state of the selected
clients. Specifically, it makes more sense to have a toggle button that
says: Lock when the clients selected are in the unlocked state, and
Unlock when the clients selected are in the locked state. The button
shouldn't say, Lock All as it isn't clear whether that means: Lock
all clients in the active classroom or Lock all selected clients.
Ideally, it would say, Lock All if no clients were selected and none
were in the locked state, and Unlock All if all clients were locked
and none selected.

Thanks,
David

Thanks! I did the file replacement described above and my HP 8000 is
printing at almost normal speeds again--was 10 minutes for a simple doc.
Using Jaunty.

[Bug 259163] Re: users-admin does not sort when Name/Login/Homedir field clicked

2009-06-17 Thread David Groos
There needs to be some kind of out-of-the-box solution for this--hands
down, unless of course you believe that the only people who would use
GNOME on a server would be a parent managing a household LAN. This is
acceptable because there would be only a few users.

But, I argue, there is a place for people like teachers who don't want
to (and shouldn't have to) dive into the CLI to manage users. I've got
about 130 users and I need to alter group membership often. If you
can't alpha-sort a list of 130 users you have to plow through the
unsorted list, examining each individual to see if it is the person you
are looking for--unpractical. Wouldn't it be simple to make it so that
you could click on the column heading and sort that list A--Z or click
again and it sorts it Z--A.

This doesn't seem to be a wishlist item but indeed a potential deal-
breaker for many of the users we want to bring into the Ubuntu fold?
Thanks for your work!
