[Bug 1748877] [NEW] DrKonqi fails to find Debug Symbols for (at least) Dolphin
Public bug reported: I just upgraded from Kubuntu 17.04 to 17.10, and on the first boot Dolphin crashed once for each window I had open in my session. (4 of them) but I can't report the crashes properly because apparently there are no debug symbols, and attempting to install them from DrKonqi gives "Could not find debug symbol packages for this application." I have no idea if the symbols actually don't exist (so this is a packaging bug for Dolphin or more) or if the Find Symbols button is just not working right. Note that it does not prompt me for my (sudo) password. I can confirm that do-release-upgrade --proposed successfully works around this issue on the user end. I am doing the upgrade now. [Bug 1360753] [NEW] Kernel hibernate fails with "PM: Swap header not found!" when multiple swap spaces are enabled (even though the resume parameter is specific)
Public bug reported: I am attempting to set up working hibernation in Linux (Which I define as hibernation that works no matter how full my RAM and swap are) and have found it to be impossible with any of the hibernation systems. this bug is about the failure using the "kernel" method, which is at least a well defined failure. My setup is the following: Kubuntu 14.04 amd64 with 32GiB RAM, and a 32GiB swap file, with a 32GiB swap partition that is enabled in a /etc/pm/sleep.d/ script and disabled on thaw. The UUID of the partition is set in both /etc/default/grub (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT) and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume. when /etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module has SLEEP_MODULE=kernel then I can actually successfully hibernate and resume IF I swapoff the swap file first, which defeats the purpose. (SLEEP_MODULE=uswsusp is another story for another bug, and TuxOnIce has been broken for a year, which I know is not your concern) If I leave the swap file active then when I attempt to hibernate, here is the relevant portion of kern.log: Aug 23 20:46:50 Kary3 kernel: [ 1082.954288] PM: Using 3 thread(s) for compression. [Bug 144431] Re: gethostbyname() cant resolve names starting/ending with "-"
I must have missed an e-mail with your previous post sorry. Anyway, what are some of these reasons that there are any number of? I think the practical solution to deciding which domains to drop and which to support is unfortunately that we should support at minimum any that Windows does. It is (for now at least) the de facto client implementation: If Windows didn't allow accessing sites with the leading or trailing hyphens, then tumblr etc. would not expose them. As long as we are bickering about RFCs, I would like to propose that this situation is best covered by the first half of RFC 1958 part 3.9: 3.9 Be strict when sending and tolerant when receiving. Implementations must follow specifications precisely when sending to the network, and tolerate faulty input from the network. (it goes on to say "When in doubt, discard faulty input silently", but I disagree with that for this instance obviously, I guess it comes down to if "faulty" means would cause problems vs merely out of spec.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144431 Title: gethostbyname() cant resolve names starting/ending with "-" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glibc/+bug/144431/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1080530] Re: v86d prevents suspend from completing
Some of you might consider a workaround that I am now using for other reasons, which also bypasses this bug: Use TuxOnIce (formerly Suspend2) instead. It requires installing a kernel from the TuxOnIce PPA (and at least for now that means an older kernel), or compiling one yourself with the patch (which you could also do for this bug directly of course) but at least you get the other benefits: I am using it to suspend to a non-swap file so that hibernation will always work no matter how much stuff is running and using RAM+swap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080530 Title: v86d prevents suspend from completing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1080530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I took a guess what package this might be. Please change it to the correct one if wrong. More tumblr and presumably other sites are going to be affected by this over time. [Bug 600348] Re: update-manager always wants to uninstall xscreensaver
I'd just like to add that that this also affects KDE users. In my opinion Xscreensaver is simply better in every way than both the KDE and Gnome implementations, so if this can be fixed it would make upgrades a bet less of an annoyance. I know this isn't useful info, but I tried using /etc/apt/preferences pinning on the xscreensaver package (no version, just o=Ubuntu) to a priority of 2001, and it didn't help any, the upgrade still wants to remove it. [Bug 651824] [NEW] Flicking display when things scroll, appear, or disappear (nVidia GeForce 6150)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The display flickers, for a frame or so showing what looks like other parts of the screen (perhaps previously displayed images) offset, typically along the lower half of the screen. It generally happens when there are updates - particularly new or closed windows, menus, etc. Typing doesn't seem to do it as often, but scrolling sometimes does, as does switching windows. This problem appeared as soon as I booted into the Ubuntu 10.04.1 livecd's desktop. (which would have been using the nouveau driver) and I installed anyway hoping it would be fixed by the proprietary nVidia drivers or other settings. I have tried a lot to fix this, with no luck (it's still doing it as I write this) Attempts included: All available versions of the nVidia proprietary drivers - 96, 173, current (195 if I recall in 10.04, 256 in 10.10) All settings of Preferences - Appearance - Visual Effects Upgrading to 10.10 (note, currently in beta or maybe RC) Different refresh rates. I don't know what else to try, and this problem isn't exactly easy to search for. Please let me know if there are things I can try, or more info I can provide. This issue does not occur in Windows XP on the same computer. (Note, I only have access to this computer for a couple days every two weeks or so. Please be patient if I can't respond right away to suggestions or requests for info that I need to use this PC to answer.) [Bug 310862] Re: Pidgin randomly forgets all saved statuses
So far on Lucid (10.04) I have avoided the original issue but I notice that periodically when pidgin starts all the saved statuses are missing Until I open the status selector a second time. If I were to close pidgin before doing that, then I might lose the statuses just like the original bug. [Bug 589298] [NEW] Nvidia driver is making kwin crash periodically
Public bug reported: Kwin crashed and gave me the backtrace below, the KDE crash assistant found a duplicate bug which was closed as external, so this needs to be reported here. This usually happens some time after I have played an OpenGL game such as Gish or World Of Goo, and occurs with kwin compositing both off or on. Sometimes it is triggered by closing one or more windows, this time it was opening a new tab in Firefox. No, I can't. The crash was low-occurrence and I don't want to downgrade a (mostly) stable app. (No crashes yet with the Sun VM) - especially because crashes can affect the server's idea of my ratio due to missed updates. More importantly, If "azureus as shipped with ubuntu works fine" then how would it help find the problem with the OpenJDK VM? [Bug 315710] Re: Linux needs exFAT support
Not only is it much too late, I would say there is no possibility whatsoever that they would have chosen a system that wasn't going to be plug-and-play on the vast majority of consumer PCs. Anything that MS didn't write (except maybe UDF, but there's probably some reason it wasn't feasible, perhaps a reason measured in dollars) would require a separate driver disk to use (Imagine MS putting drivers for an open system on Windows Update - yeah right.) So it wouldn't really be an option. A related issue: Given that the file system of the media needs to be supported by all the future cameras, media players, et cetera, now that the decision has been made, any advice to 'Just reformat' would only work if the card is going to be only PC-to-PC. Of course even if SDXC had gone with something else this bug would still exist (because exFAT does), it just would not be as serious an issue. -- Linux needs exFAT support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315710 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 315710] Re: Linux needs exFAT support
The 'solution' to any potential legal issue seems obvious to me - treat it like libdecss and host it at Medibuntu. This happens on my system as well: Kubuntu Jaunty ( 9.04 ) amd64 I have attached the Trouble Report that bitpim made. [Bug 220628] Re: [MASTER] firefox-3.0b5 received an X Window System error: 'BadIDChoice'
I placed the patch in libxcb1_1.1-1ubuntu1 (Hardy) and so far it seems to work just fine. Before patching, this bug would be the usual mode of failure for any Firefox session that went longer than a day or two, I have not had a chance to stress test Firefox, but I had found another program that could produce this bug on demand: In the game Clonk Rage ( http://www.clonk.de/cr.php ) if I attempted to change the screen resolution it would produce the BadIDChoice error every time. Now after the patch it correctly changes the screen resolution and the rest of the game is playable as well (so far as I can tell from a couple of the tutorial levels) My system is Kubuntu Hardy x86, and my GPU is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP, using the proprietary drivers from the standard repositories. [Bug 310862] [NEW] Pidgin randomly forgets all saved statuses
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pidgin Sometimes when I log in, pidgin has lost all of the saved statuses I had created. I have seen this on separate computers with different architectures (x86 and x86-64) but both are Kubuntu Hardy I thought at first that this was only happening when Pidgin (actually the system it's running on) crashed, but I have seen it after normal shutdowns as well. I can't explain this, but either a) installing gthumb-dbgsym (libglib2-dbg was already installed, and the dbgsym package was out of date) (may not be the precise names) Or b) creating a new user somehow caused this problem to vanish entirely. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 This is another apport report like bug 240573 - but I am using the official package now. Version 3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 and run with --sync (Still using Tab Mix Plus to keep a very large session open) Terminal output: The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this connection)'. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) [Bug 162604] Re: Bitpim crashes on launch
Ah, looks like I had installed the package from the bitpim homepage before upgrading to gutsy. The (downgrade to) the official gutsy package seems to be working now. Sorry for the bogus bug. ** Changed in: bitpim (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Bitpim crashes on launch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162604 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 114316] [apport] s2s crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: jabberd2 This problem has existed since at least Breezy. I actually have a script set up to re-launch this process every time it fails so that I can stay logged in to Jabber, but now that I have apport I can submit an actual bug report with actual debug info. Note: I suggest simply upgrading to the latest upstream version, the current one is Very old. If any more information is needed, please let me know. [Bug 66752] Bitpim uses 100% CPUs and fills all memory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bitpim Steps 1, 2 (any order) Start bitpim, connect phone by USB (In my case an LG vx6100) Step 3, choose Edit -> Settings and in the settings window click Browse (for a com port) Step 4, Watch the system grind to a halt, until one manages to kill bitpim Notes: I am using Ubuntu Edgy x86 on a dual core Turion 64 x2, and installed Ubuntu's bitpim instead of using alien (that will be my next attempt) This does not seem to be a permissions issue because it happens with Bitpim as root as well. Also, I know that this phone syncs correctly in Windows or in earlier Ubuntu with the Bitpim RPM installed by alien Also, this phone also works fine as a modem on /dev/ttyACM0, but Bitpim can't use that port for it. It also doesn't autodetect the phone ** Affects: bitpim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: bitpim Steps 1, 2 (any order) Start bitpim, connect phone by USB (In my case an LG vx6100) Step 3, choose Edit -> Settings and in the settings window click Browse (for a com port) Step 4, Watch the system grind to a halt, until one manages to kill bitpim Notes: - I am using Ubuntu Edgy x86 on a dual core Turion 64 x2, and unstalled Ubuntu's bitpim instead of using alien (that will be my next attempt) + I am using Ubuntu Edgy x86 on a dual core Turion 64 x2, and installed Ubuntu's bitpim instead of using alien (that will be my next attempt) This does not seem to be a permissions issue because it happens with Bitpim as root as well. [Bug 5106] Re: jabberd2 s2s crashes shortly after startup
I have had this problem since I started using Ubuntu - at Breezy and am using Dapper - I expect that this problem will still exist in Edgy unless Jabberd2 is Finally upgraded, because I believe it is this bug: http://j2.openaether.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=122 (which was fixed before 2.0s10) -- jabberd2 s2s crashes shortly after startup https://launchpad.net/bugs/5106 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
