The new update 0.7.99 indeed works "out of the box"
But there are still two instances of  the "quietstart" checkbox at 
gconf/apps/gnome-do.
One in gnome-do > core-preferences
and one in gnome-do > Do > corepreferences

I don't know if this is needed :-)

I've had the same problem.
The gnome-do "preferences" screen was gray. And Gnome-do would even hang on 
startup.

In gconf-editor at Apps/Gnome-do I found that there was a new formatting for 
settings and the old settings weren't deleted/copied well.
I then deleted the /home/username/.gconf/apps/gnome-do folder, killed all 
gnome-do instance and started gnome-do again.
Now all works fine :-)

I have the same problem too on a dell inspiron 1520.
I didn't know totem was the cause of this trouble, I've checked and it is 
indeed!
Any news on how to fix this?
