[Bug 1773839] Re: zip compressed archives ignore/hide symlinks

2019-04-28 Thread Dennis L.
Hi Sebastian,
I have tested again on Ubuntu 19.04 and the issue appears to be resolved.
Opening the previously attached test zip file in the current 3.32.1 version of
file-roller / Archive Manager shows the symlinked files and they are
successfully extracted.

[Bug 1797714] Re: [Dell Studio 1557] No sound after upgrade to Kubuntu 18.10 beta

2018-10-20 Thread Dennis L.
Removing the timidity package resolved this for me.

But the symptoms are strange:
Symptoms after upgrading from 18.04 to 18:10:
- aplay -l shows all audio devices as expected, including internal on-board
sound device
- pavucontrol only shows hdmi3 output, analog sound is missing from options

Removing timidity (just out of frustration because I couldn't find any
other suggestions on this) and rebooting once brought back the analog
sound devices

Thanks to JR for mentioning this.

[Bug 1773839] [NEW] zip compressed archives ignore/hide symlinks

2018-05-28 Thread Dennis L.
Public bug reported:

When opening zip compressed archives that contain symlinks to files in the same
folder/archive, the symlinks are
1. not shown in file-roller/Archive Manager
2. not extracted upon archive extraction

This only happens with zip archives. *.tar.xz archives show the symlinks
and will be extracted as expected.

A possible workaround is to select "Extract here" from the archive's context
menu (right-click in Nautilus/Files) which restores the symlinks as expected.
However without prior knowledge of this behavior this can cause major problems
when extracting archives such as binary development libraries whose
build/linking process relies on the correct symlinks being present.

Platform:
Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04

Package Version: file-roller:

[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read

2018-03-20 Thread Dennis L.
Thanks to a larger package download I could make screenshots of the downloading
progress.
The first one shows the default window size, the second one shows the same
window after resizing the window vertically (increased size).
The download list remains at a constant vertical size even with a larger
window.

I'm on 17.10 and will try my best to make a screenshot on the next

[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read

2018-03-17 Thread Dennis L.
I can confirm that the embedded installation progress terminal frame now
expands as expected. For the last three runs of update-manager (that took long
enough to be able to open the detailed view) the terminal has the correct size.
However the download progress does not. It now shows five lines for downloading
packages but when expanding the entire window the download progress frame does
not expand together with the window (in vertical direction) but stays at the
five lines size.

[Bug 1495696] Re: NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 22s! [firefox:2278]

2015-09-22 Thread Dennis L.
Sad news: I had the same crash with the 3.19.8 kernel a couple of times now.
The obvious symptom is that the screen turns off and searches for a new signal
source (HDMI/VGA/etc.).
This time it happened when zooming in Firefox (CTRL+Mousewheel) while a Youtube
video was loading in a background tab.
I have tried to connect via SSH from a different machine to see if only the
screen/GPU is not working correctly but it didn't go beyond login which
indicates that some kind of lockup occurs.

I have attached the latest logfile from /var/crash/

Sorry for sparse/superficial information but my experience with kernel-
debugging is rather limited...

2015-09-16 Thread Dennis L.
Testing with ppa kernel 3.19.8-031908ckt6-generic seems to resolve the issue.
At least no more crashes/freezes have occurred since then.
I have added the 'kernel-fixed-upstream" tag as requested.

[Bug 1315618] Re: evolution crashes when create a new imap-folder

2014-05-11 Thread Dennis L.
This is not limited to creating IMAP folders but happens for me when creating a
local folder after pressing the OK button in the Select folder name dialog,
too.
The console output says:
###
(evolution:5121): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 519 was not found when attempting
to remove it
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
###
After restarting evolution the recently created folder exists as expected.

[Bug 579091] Re: Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 interferes with toolbar buttons for other add-ons

2010-05-21 Thread Dennis L.
I can confirm this one.
Opening new Firefox windows or restarting the program (e.g. after
installing/updating addons)
will cause custom controls to disappear (in the newly opened window).
This will only happen with the Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 enabled. All
is fine when it is disabled.

I could reproduce this with the Adblock Plus icon in the toolbar or simply by
adding a Open in new tab
button to the toolbar, both will be vanished in the new window.

The same thing happened in Ubuntu 9.10, too.
Current system:
Ubuntu 10.04
Firefox 3.6.3
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
