[Bug 1889005] [NEW] Can no longer print to network printer
Public bug reported: I believe that a recent update has broken the ability of this laptop to print to a network printer. HPLIP reports that it is unable to communicate with the printer although the machine to which the printer is directly connected (via USB cable) has normal print function. The command hp-check -i gives the following output don@Homebrew ~ $ hp-check -i Saving output in log file: /home/don/hp-check.log HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.20.3) Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 15.1 Copyright (c) 2001-18 HP Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details. Note: hp-check can be run in three modes: 1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP. 2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run. 3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies). Check types: a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time) c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies d. Re: [Bug 801642] Re: Scanner doesn't return to ready position after scan
Michael - I've been unable to install iscan in my 64 bit Ubuntu, still working on it. When I use scan all pages in SimpleScan the scanner cycles continuously. Since it is a flatbed scanner (and it moves slowly) I have time to swap out the scanned page and place the next page. So for multipage scans that will work well. What puzzles me, and what got me to post the bug report in the first place, was that the scanner previously behaved differently than it does now. Specifically, it used to return to the ready position after a single page was scanned. One day it stopped doing that and I don't know why. Thanks for the reply. As you suggested I tried the scanner (Canon Lide 60 flatbed scanner) with the preference set to scan front and back, front only, back only, and in all cases the scanner does not return to the ready-to-scan position until the next time I hit the scan button. Re: [Bug 573114] Re: at bootup get can't mount /proc/usb/hub message
Blaine - Thanks for the note. I had to re-install 10.04 yesterday after the laptop was repaired. (IBM wiped the HDD. I had everything backed up but still wished they wouldn't have done that.) Anyway, after a fresh install, changing from ext3 to ext4, then installing 247 updates, the error message went away and boot time is significantly decreased. I will save your message in case Ubuntu suffers a regression again in the future. Don On Fri, Aug 13, 2010 at 9:45 AM, Blaine 573...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: I know what usually causes this if anyone is interested. In 9.10 you need to add something like this to /etc/fstab: none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=124,devmode=664 0 0 in order for virtualbox to be able to access usb. With 10.04, apparently, this line isn't needed and virtulbox can access usb out of the box. This line was left over on my laptop from 9.10 on my upgrade to 10.04 and caused my system to hang. This has happened to me twice: Once when I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and today when I rebooted after a system update (using a fresh 10.04 install). When I did my original 9.10=10.04 upgrade, the system did not actually give me the 'Press S to Skip or M to manually mount' message on the splash screen; it just hung and was apparently waiting for a key press (s or m). I ended up doing a full wipe and reinstall, only to have the same error happen after I added the line to /etc/fstab when I installed virtualbox. Now I know that I could have avoided the entire wipe if only I had pressed s. Live and Learn, I suppose. So. To get rid of this message, try removing the /etc/fstab line regarding /proc/bus/usb if you have one. -- at bootup get can't mount /proc/usb/hub message https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573114 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Yes, it completely stopped happening several months ago. I have all updates to 9.10 as of April 2. I'm debating going to 10.04 when it's released, haven't made my mind up about it.
