[Bug 1817397] [NEW] cherrytree version in ubuntu disco repository is outdated

2019-02-22 Thread Drew Woodard
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 19.04 repos contain cherrytree version 0.37.6-1.1 released 2016-10-24.
Since that date there have been 9 releases, with 0.38.8 being released on
2019-02-20.

The author has source and deb packages available
https://github.com/giuspen/cherrytree

I don't know how version updates are usually handled or if this is the
designated place to request them.

[Bug 1813007] Re: Unable to install new flows on compute nodes when having broken security group rules

2019-01-23 Thread Drew Freiberger
Found https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/s5Z4DNJspV/ missing.
New copy here: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/g7Q3nFmhWN/

The thing to note is that they both have the same remote_group_id,
40ee2790-282f-4c6a-8f00-d5ee0b8b66d7 and one has
ports_range_min/max=None (which in the code None is replaced with 1 on
ports_range_min and 65535 on port_range_max).

The code then translated this remote_group_id into id 38, which in the
cur_conj.remove(conj_id) call ended up failing to delete due to there
being two different entities with the key 38, hence the KeyError. If I
recall correctly from looking at this last week, cur_conj is an array of
tuples of ('',
conj_id).

[Bug 1192613] Re: libHYPRE.so is not linked to other libHYPRE* libs

2018-11-19 Thread Drew Parsons
Hi Alexander, Luke, as you have noticed there is no specific Ubuntu
maintainer for HYPRE. The package is rebuilt directly from the
underlying Debian version. Debian has a separate workflow from Ubuntu,
and a separate bug tracking system. This situation is the same for most
packages in the Ubuntu universe archive, the packages fully managed by
Ubuntu are the ones in Ubuntu main.

Your problem was reported in Debian bug#902102, and will be fixed in
2.15.1-1exp1.

[Bug 1793544] [NEW] allow dijitso 2018.1.0-5 into cosmic (fixes HPC bugs)

2018-09-20 Thread Drew Parsons
Public bug reported:

I've uploaded dijitso 2018.1.0-5 to Debian.

It applies an upstream patch which should improve file handling on
complex filesystems when running in parallel (e.g. NFS on a cluster).
It would be well appreciated by users of cosmic cloud images
(OpenStack).

So please let this revision move into cosmic.

Cheers,

[Bug 1308105]

2018-06-08 Thread Drew Lustro
Wow... thank heavens. I can also very that the patch from Comment #53
has solved this bug that has been driving me nuts for weeks. I would
lose my entire X session every single day as soon as the screen
blanked... quite troublesome when you're trying to make linux work as
your daily drive, haha.

I had to learn how to patch a .deb file properly in the process, but
that was worth it too.

Cannot thank you enough, @jkampe68

[Bug 1764848] Re: Upgrade to ca-certificates to 20180409 causes ca-certificates.crt to be removed if duplicate certs found

2018-04-17 Thread Drew Freiberger
perhaps a proper fix is for ubuntu-sso-client to release a new python-
ubuntu-sso-client package in bionic that doesn't include this UbuntuOne-
Go_Daddy_Class_2_CA.pem now that ca-certificates package has the CA.

However, I'd still like to see duplicate certs not causing ca-
certificates.crt to be deleted.

[Bug 1764848] [NEW] Upgrade to ca-certificates to 20180409 causes ca-certificates.crt to be removed if duplicate certs found

2018-04-17 Thread Drew Freiberger
Public bug reported:

The certificate /usr/share/ca-
certificates/mozilla/Go_Daddy_Class_2_CA.crt in package ca-certificates
is conflicting with /etc/ssl/certs/UbuntuOne-Go_Daddy_Class_2_CA.pem
from package python-ubuntu-sso-client.

This results in the postinst trigger for ca-certificates to remove the
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt file. This happens because the
postinst trigger runs update-ca-certificates --fresh.

If I run update-ca-certificates without the --fresh flag, the conflict
is a non-issue and the ca-certificates.crt file is restored.

If I understand some of the postinst code correctly, --fresh should only
be run if called directly or if upgrading from a ca-certificates version
older than 2011.

Running bionic with daily -updates channel and ran into this this
morning due to the release of ca-certificates version 20180409.

[Bug 1757277] [NEW] soft lockup from bcache leading to high load and lockup on trusty

2018-03-20 Thread Drew Freiberger
Public bug reported:

I have an environment with Dell R630 servers with RAID controllers with
two virtual disks and 22 passthru devices. 2 SAS SSDs and 20 HDDs are
setup in 2 bcache cachesets with a resulting 20 mounted xfs filesystems
running bcache backending an 11 node swift cluster (one zone has 1 fewer
nodes). Two of the zones have these nodes as described above and they
appear to be exibiting soft lockups in the bcache thread of the kernel
causing other kernel threads to go into i/o blocking state an keeping
processes on any bcache from being successful. disk access to the
virtual disks mounted with out bcache is still possible when this lockup
occurs.

https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/mtn47QqBJ3/

There are several softlockup messages found in the dmesg and many of
the dumpstack are locked inside the bch_writeback_thread();

static int bch_writeback_thread(void *arg)
{
[...]
while (!kthread_should_stop()) {
down_write(>writeback_lock);
[...]
}

One coredump is found when the kswapd is doing the reclaim about the
xfs inode cache.

__xfs_iflock(
struct xfs_inode *ip)
{
do {
prepare_to_wait_exclusive(wq, , TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE);
if (xfs_isiflocked(ip))
io_schedule();
} while (!xfs_iflock_nowait(ip));

(i.e., compiz related packages). I did not let it proceed, because I do
not understand why they are being held back nor what state I would be
left in after an upgrade. Any advice?

[Bug 1729389] Re: [Intel 8260/8265] Bluetooth peripherals work for a few seconds, then don't react

2018-01-24 Thread Drew Rosoff
I had previously worked around this problem using the solution in
comment #17. Now I just upgraded to linux-firmware 1.157.15, as I saw
it in my Ubuntu Xenial updates and it referenced fixing this bug. I
therefore removed the workaround in comment #17 and rebooted. The
problem returned immediately (I tried multiple reboots and reconnects).
Bluetooth still disconnects after a period of time if wifi is also
connected. I had to reinstate the workaround in comment #17 again to
have a working mouse, even with the new linux-firmware update. I am
using Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.13.0-31.

[Bug 1740892] Re: corosync upgrade on 2018-01-02 caused pacemaker to fail

2018-01-03 Thread Drew Freiberger
So, it was NOT a pacemaker restart, it was pacemaker trying to perform
standard dropped connection reconnect with an incompatible library for
CPG API access to the restarted corosync.

[Bug 1740892] Re: corosync upgrade on 2018-01-02 caused pacemaker to fail

2018-01-03 Thread Drew Freiberger
@nacc:

The error condition was that when corosync restarted, pacemaker
disconnected (as was normal) and then tried reconnecting, but when
reconnecting ran into this error:

error: pcmk_cpg_dispatch: Connection to the CPG API failed: Library
error (2)

So, pacemaker is trying to re-handshake with the revived corosync, and
when it does, the api fails due to a library error. Given that it's the
CPG API, and the libcpg4 package was updated, I'd guess that there was
an incompatible patch added to the libcpg4 library was incompatible with
the previous version of libcpg4 that was in-memory linked into the
running pacemaker binary. Once we restarted the dead pacemaker service,
pacemaker reloaded the new library and was able to connect to the CPG
API as normal.

I don't know if that's a library failure or a change to the CPG API that
was not version-compatible with the previously running version of
libcpg4 whenever the dying pacemaker had been started.

The issue occured in trusty and xenial clouds across Mitaka and Ocata
cloud archives.

[Bug 1735088] Re: package initramfs-tools 0.125ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script was killed by signal (Terminated)

2017-12-18 Thread Drew Balliet
Had to boot to 4.10.0.42 or 4.14.0-11 to get command to run. Issue seen
on both 4.13.0-17-generic and 4.13.0-19-generic.

Another issue that accompanied this issue was that after updating to
17.10 PC would no longer reboot or shutdown. Updating kernel manually to
4.14.0-11 and manually booting to 4.14.0-11 linux-image resolved issue.
I was then able to install software needed, update-initramfs, boot, and
reboot normally. Currently running with 17.10 package set and newer
kernel.

[Bug 1724529] Re: ceph health output flips between OK and WARN all the time

2017-11-30 Thread Drew Freiberger
We are seeing this same flapping on another cloud. One node had rebooted
yesterday when the HEALTH_WARN flapping began. Running on trusty/mitaka cloud
archive 10.2.7 ceph package.
That server is giving the health_warn on the too many pgs.
Ohter server rebooted 7 days ago was not giving warning, and third server was
still running ceph-mon from March at 10.2.3. Had to kill ceph-mon (as
/etc/init.d/ceph restart mon did not work) and that's now running 10.2.7 mon.
Some OSDs running 10.2.6, some running 10.2.7 when I run "ceph tell osd.*
version"
restart of third mon (up for 10 days) (also required kill command) and now
error is not flapping.

Seems there's something that either /etc/init.d/ceph command is not
properly allowing for mon restarts (on ceph-charm, not ceph-mon-charm)
when OSDs are present (though haven't tested w/out OSDs present).
Having to kill the process with standard SIG is odd to get the process
to recycle. Perhaps it's being blocked by init daemon configsside
issue.

I'm guessing what actually has happened is someone did a "ceph tell
mon.*" to ignore the pg counts, and then the restarts caused the setting
to be dropped. This may be something to re-open against the ceph and
ceph-mon charms to allow for config opts for ceph health_warn configs,
or we can close this bug and open another.

The flapping makes so much more sense in this context of a ceph tell
mon.* having been run in the past.

We've got notes in a related case on another cloud to work-around this
with config-flags setting in the charm, but would love to see more of
these operational monitoring settings exposed by the charm directly
rather than relying on config-flags.

Here's the command to change on the live ceph-mons:
- ceph tell mon.* injectargs '--mon_pg_warn_max_per_osd=900'

Here's the command to configure the juju ceph charm to persist the setting:
- juju set ceph config-flags='{osd: {"mon pg warn max per osd": 900}}'

[Bug 1732999] [NEW] xrandr relative positioning does not take into account the --scale parameter

2017-11-17 Thread Drew Ditthardt
Public bug reported:

assuming I have 2 displays, eDP1(3840x2160) and DP1-1(1920x1200), and I
want DP1-1 placed to the left of eDP1 while scaling it 2x2...

xrandr --output eDP1 --auto --output DP1-1 --auto --scale 2x2 --left-of
eDP1

after running the above command, eDP1 ends up having a pos of 1920x0 but
DP1-1 ends up with a scaled resolution of 3840x2400, which causes half
of it's screen area to be displayed on eDP1, overwriting half of eDP1's
screen. I have also reproduced this behavior with --scale-from instead
of --scale.

I think that the pos of eDP1 in this case should end up at 3840x0,
otherwise the utility of the ease of use operators like --right-of,
--left-of, --above, etc is zero when used in conjunction with --scale or
--scale-from.

[Bug 1719770] Re: hypervisor stats issue after charm removal if nova-compute service not disabled first

2017-10-26 Thread Drew Freiberger
I'm still working on reproducing. While attempting reproduction, I had
an environment where I had 3 hosts, dummy charms on each for ubuntu,
then added nova-compute to 3. Removed nova-compute unit from the third
host, and still saw stats for it in hypervisor-stats. There may be some
cleanup missing in charm-nova-compute relation-depart hooks to
disable/remove the service.

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/25824195/

I think to reproduce, it might require a full remove-machine, add-unit
ubuntu --to machine-name, add-unit nova-compute --to .

Ed (~dosaboy) may be working on this reproduction.

2017-10-25 Thread Drew Freiberger
re: init-system-helpers, I noticed the oddity of the init script on a

2017-10-19 Thread Adam Drew
What's the current status on this? I updated to artful and expected this
to be fixed but my touchpad no longer works (I'd build a patched 4.10
with the fix on zenial).

Do we still have to build our own kernel on artful? Is there a package
in proposed for artful? I couldn't find one. Is there another bug open
for this on artful?

And, technical stuff aside, this bug is 4 months old and was reported on
the last release - why isn't this in artful?

[Bug 1724124] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 - Ubuntu Server Guide - VPN - OpenVPN

2017-10-16 Thread Drew Davis
Public bug reported:

I'm currently doing the following Ubuntu 16.04 server guide:

https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/openvpn.html

When it comes to the "Certificate Authority Setup" in trying to generate
the master Certificate Authority (CA) certificate and key. You get the
following error after doing "./build-ca":

140529258620568:error:0E065068:configuration file
routines:STR_COPY:variable has no value:conf_def.c:584:line 198

Looking at developers github page (https://github.com/OpenVPN/easy-
rsa/blob/master/easyrsa3/easyrsa), it states to "add a subjectAltName".

After adding, "export KEY_ALTNAME="something", to the /etc/openvpn/easy-
rsa/vars I was able to complete the ./build-ca

Please modify this server guide so no one else runs into this issue.

[Bug 1719770] Re: hypervisor stats issue after charm removal if nova-compute service not disabled first

2017-09-27 Thread Drew Freiberger
In models.py, both in Mitaka and in master, I've found that the relation
between ComputeNode and Service is using the following join in the
Service context:

primaryjoin='and_(Service.host == Instance.host,'
'Service.binary == "nova-compute",'
'Instance.deleted == 0)',

As in my case, I've redeployed a deleted node as the same hostname
(Service.host) this join is relating a deleted ComputeNode.host entry to
the non-deleted Service.host entry.

If I look at both my compute_nodes and services tables, it appears they
should potentially be joined on the "id" field, rather than the "host"
field, at least for this specific query, but this potentially breaks the
Service object relation model for other query contexts such as instances
running on a hypervisor.

[Bug 1624997] Re: live-migration fails because of " Host key verification failed"

2017-03-30 Thread Drew Freiberger
James,

I just filed a related bug which narrows down that this is happening if
ceph-osd configures ssh key exchanges before nova-compute unit is added
to the host.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-nova-compute/+bug/1677707

This is also a Xenial Mitaka cloud, these nodes were added to a juju-
deployer environment (Bootstack) manually by adding ubuntu charm to
provision host, then ceph-osd add-unit, then nova-compute add-unit.

[Bug 1620578] Re: Screen contents "flickering" after screen turned back on

2017-03-22 Thread Drew Freiberger
I am also seeing this on yakkety with three displays. As I move the
mouse, the background flickers on two or three of the monitors. tends
toward the lower-right than the upper left. A right-click on the
desktop (bringing up the desktop sub-menu) clears the error immediately
for me until the sleep-wake cycle happens again. This does not happen
when I only use my internal laptop screen.

[Bug 1470014] Re: systemd-udevd: Process '/lib/udev/hdparm' failed with exit code 5.

2016-11-06 Thread Drew Scott Daniels
The other bug suggested this could be repeated by running (where sdX is the
name of your block device, e.g. sda from /dev/sda):
sudo udevadm trigger --action=add /sys/block/sdX --verbose

Another way debug this without a reboot for a drive that's not mounted,
you can disconnect the device and re-scan to add it.

# #Comment: First, figure out which logical port the drive is connected to:
# #Comment: In the output, make note of the host0 part. Other output may have
host1 etc.
# #Comment: you may need to put a sudo in front of readlink.
# readlink /sys/block/sdX #e.g. for /dev/sda it would be readlink /sys/block/sda
../devices/pci:00/:00:1f.1/ata1/host0/target0:0:1/0:0:1:0/block/sda

# #Comment: Force disconnect the device (you may have to "sudo su -" first, or
use sudo with tee):
# echo 1 > /sys/block/sdX/device/delete

# #Comment: Trigger rescan (you may have to "sudo su -" first, or use sudo with
tee).
# #Comment: Note host0 matches from the readlink call above:
# echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan

If you want to apply the workaround for xenial, you need to comment out both
"hdparm_set_option -B254" and the "else" above it in
/lib/hdparm/hdparm-functions. If you don't properly comment out the else
section, then you'll get something like:
systemd-udevd[XXX]: Process '/lib/udev/hdparm' failed with exit code 2.

A workaround that didn't work for me was to add "hdparm_set_option -q"
on the line before "hdparm_set_option -B254" /lib/hdparm/hdparm-
functions . Just changing it to "hdparm_set_options -q -B254" results in
the -B254 not getting set as a parameter, which may be good enough for
some people.

To add some debugging code, add the following to line 2 of /lib/udev/hdparm
like suggested in bug 1568474.
set -x; exec 2>>/tmp/hdparm.txt
When incorrectly commenting out the "-B254" part, you may see something in
/tmp/hdparm.txt like:
/lib/udev/hdparm: 89: /lib/hdparm/hdparm-functions: Synax error: "fi" unexpected

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=795025 says "the -B254
option status is written to the unavailable output and generates the IO
error."

The correct solution seems to be, as suggested test if the -B option is
accepted before using it, having hdparm ignore the error (with a -q on
line 88?), or changing the hdparm code's handling of the -B option
failing. It would be nice to know when it fails with a warning in syslog
instead of this error. It may also be useful to somehow get the output
of hdparm going directly to the syslog when there is a non-0 error code,
or even adding some information about what the command line was for the
statement that failed if /lib/udev/hdparm is allowed to write to syslog.

For me this may be a problem that comes and goes as I need to look at older
drives where the APM_level is not supported. For the one drive I'm currently
looking at I see:
user@host:~$ sudo /sbin/hdparm -B254 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
Setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)
 HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Input/output error
 APM_level  = not supported
user@host:~$ sudo /sbin/hdparm /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 multcount = 16 (on)
 IO_support=  1 (32-bit)
 readonly  =  0 (off)
 readahead = 256 (on)
 geometry  = 25694/255/63, sectors = 234441658, start = 0

[Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2016-06-20 Thread Drew Lustro
OK. This has been driving me nuts for weeks. I would lose my entire X
session every single day as soon as the screen blanked... quite
troublesome when you're trying to make linux work as your daily drive,
haha.

*Confirmed fix* w/ the patch suggested on xfce's bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11107#c53

Download the xfce4-settings source, apply the patch, increment with a
non-maintainer version number (for no future apt-get conflicts once this
gets an official fix), and reinstall your patched xfce4-settings.

I had to learn how to patch a .deb file properly in the process, but
that was worth it too.

[Bug 1581302] Re: Monitor remains blanked with Intel Graphics

2016-06-20 Thread Drew Lustro
For anyone running xfce4 with this bug driving them nuts, it may pertain
to a known bug in xfsettingsd.

Check out the patch noted here:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11107#c53

Download the xfce4-settings source, apply the patch, increment with a
non-maintainer version number (for no future apt-get conflicts once this

The aforementioned screen blank patch fixed this bug that has been

day as soon as the screen blanked... quite troublesome when you're
trying to make linux work as your daily drive, haha.

Re: [Bug 1590974] Re: package mariadb-common 10.0.25-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2016-06-15 Thread Mike Drew
Otto,

Thanks for the reply. I was finally able to get the 5.7 update to
complete. At least no more errors occurred. The problems started during
the upgrade from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04 and MariaDB did not quite install
properly. It was probably my fault because I copied the /var/lib/mysql
folder from openSUSE Tumbleweed to the Ubuntu 15.10 environment. I somehow
got through that hurdle and 16.04 worked and so did the mysql databases.
All seemed to work okay until the 5.7 update of MariaDB. I probably still
don't have a 'clean' Ubuntu 16.04 environment. Anyway, I used touch to
create /etc/mysql/mariadb.cnf and reran the update. It almost worked
except for the binary update. I renamed /var/lib/mysql-5.7 to
mysql-5.7.old and ran the update again. I did apt-get install -f and got
no more errors. Then I ran the Software Updater and it said my computer
was up to date. I know I probably didn't do this the 'right' way, being
that I'm no Ubuntu or Linux expert. I know just enough to be dangerous.
Any advice for future transfers of mysql databases would be appreciated.
And I'll read up on it in the meantime. Thanks.

[Bug 1583000] [NEW] Systemd issues with percona-xtradb-cluster-5.6 package

2016-05-18 Thread Drew Kutcharian
Public bug reported:

Seems like Systemd and Percona XtraDB Cluster don't like to play together in
16.04. There are multiple issues:

1. There is no way to "bootstrap-pxc" using systemctl and when I use
"/etc/init.d/mysql bootstrap-pxc", then even though mysql is running, systemd
doesn't think it is.
See
https://www.percona.com/doc/percona-xtradb-cluster/5.6/manual/bootstrap.html
for more info.

Demonstration:
root@sql1:~# ps ax | grep mysql
 1428 pts/0S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --wsrep-new-cluster
 1902 pts/0Sl 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr
--datadir=/var/lib/percona-xtradb-cluster --plugin-dir=/usr/lib/mysql/plugin
--user=mysql --wsrep-provider=/usr/lib/libgalera_smm.so --wsrep-new-cluster
--log-error=/var/log/mysql/error.log --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --port=3306
--wsrep_start_position=de1c3153-1c83-11e6-94af-63e494c70dbe:6
 1997 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto mysql

root@sql1:~# /etc/init.d/mysql status
● mysql.service - LSB: Start and stop the mysql (Percona XtraDB Cluster) daemon
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/mysql; bad; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
 Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)

root@sql1:~# systemctl status mysql
● mysql.service - LSB: Start and stop the mysql (Percona XtraDB Cluster) daemon
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/mysql; bad; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
 Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
root@sql1:~#

2. There is no way to gracefully kill this mysql process:

Demonstration:
root@sql1:~# /etc/init.d/mysql stop
[ ok ] Stopping mysql (via systemctl): mysql.service.

root@sql1:~# systemctl stop mysql

root@sql1:~# ps ax | grep mysql
 1428 pts/0S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --wsrep-new-cluster
 1902 pts/0Sl 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr
--datadir=/var/lib/percona-xtradb-cluster --plugin-dir=/usr/lib/mysql/plugin
--user=mysql --wsrep-provider=/usr/lib/libgalera_smm.so --wsrep-new-cluster
--log-error=/var/log/mysql/error.log --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --port=3306
--wsrep_start_position=de1c3153-1c83-11e6-94af-63e494c70dbe:6
 2133 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto mysql

Environment: Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS
I installed XtraDB Cluster using "apt-get -yq install
percona-xtradb-cluster-server"

Given that the only members of this list of supposed "dependencies" that
I even remotely want are pfstools & pfsglview, there is a problem here.
I am not attempting to install a suite of tools for scholarly
mathematical analysis. I merely want to play with HDR image software.
While I'm using 14.04 (which I believe is the current "LTS"), I presume
this problem exists for all Ubuntu release levels. This kind of
dependency hell is a real turn-off for end users, particularly if they
are Windows users.

Removing the Ubuntu package and installing the binary from the above

A temporary solution here is to uninstall the Ubuntu package and use the
binary provided by the developer: this allowed me to import the EPUBs
correctly. https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1493627

My error output is the same as others with the ubuntu package on Ubuntu

[Bug 1493922] [NEW] sendmail package does not support strong DH/TLS

2015-09-09 Thread Drew Weaver
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I spent the better part of the morning trying to get the Ubuntu sendmail
package to use a 2048 DH parameters file created like this so that it
could send email to hosts that have fixed logjam already...

openssl dhparam -out /etc/mail/tls/dhparams.pem 2048
changed sendmail.mc to define(`confDH_PARAMETERS',
`/etc/mail/tls/dhparams.pem')dnl
make

in sendmail.cf it says O DHParameters=/etc/mail/tls/dhparams.pem

but no matter what I do sendmail doesn't use the new DH Parameters file.

It keeps giving this error

[Bug 1381776] [NEW] cloud init depends on python-serial but does not declare it

2014-10-15 Thread Drew Fisher
Public bug reported:

cloud-init 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.14 appears to depend on python-serial (due to
the backported cloudsigma support patch), but this dependency is not
specified in the package.

I built a machine image via debootstrap and installing the cloud-init

actions, and I get this backtrace in /var/log/boot.log:

I am also seeing this same issue with a TL-WN722N, it uses the same
ath9k_htc driver.

I am running ubuntu 14.04 with the 3.17-rc5 kernel and latest 14.10
firmware.

Attached is my kern.log containing at least one instance of this crash
from 3.17-rc4.(grep for oops =)). I've also seen this crash in rc5 but
strangely it's not showing up in the kernel log. Most likely the
watchdog didn't catch it in time.

[Bug 1337281] Re: network problems after update to kernel 3.2.0-65 - thunderbird/imap/dovecot

2014-08-05 Thread Drew
I can confirm what YAMAMOTO Hirotaka (ymmt2005) said. I upgraded from
3.2.0-64-generic to 3.2.0-67 and had lots of issues with Windows users
connecting to network shares on a different subnet among other things. I
rolled back to 3.2.0-64 and the problems disappeared. All Linux and Mac
workstations saw no issues whatsoever.

Are there any fixes for this that can be accomplished within
/etc/sysctl.conf ? Thank you!

[Bug 1256832] Re: Canon Selphy CP510 not recognised by CUPS

2014-05-22 Thread Drew N
@dr Gutenprint drivers are not CUPS drivers. In fact, that's part of
what is wrong with many systems that have gutenprint installed--they
insist on pretending that Gutenprint is just an oddly named CUPS PPD.

I would argue in fact that the reason we have problems like this is that
we can't just say Hey Mr. Configuration tool, talk to the thingy with
the hardware ID blargh! I'd have a working printer (again) by now if
I could do that. Problems like this (which I cannot just fix myself) are
really starting to make me hate ubuntu with a passion only rivaled by my
dislike of PERCRaid controllers.

Use EXTEND_PAD on X

This patch is built on my patch in bug 566283, but the merge is pretty
trivial.

Zack, can you take a look and see if this works?

[Bug 263661]

2014-02-21 Thread Joe-drew
Yes, we're listening. This blocks 1.9.3 final, which means it'll be
fixed for Firefox 4 final.

A plan Jeff and I sketched out involves (IIRC):
 - Turning on EXTEND_PAD unconditionally, and
 - using and/or extending the Cairo X version checking code to sniff for the
versions of X that EXTEND_PAD sucks on, and falling back to software (pixman)
in those cases.

That might not be the final plan, but it's *a* plan.

2014-02-21 Thread Joe-drew
Bug 422179 uses EXTEND_PAD if EXTEND_PAD is fast and good - but only for
upscales. I suspect we should use EXTEND_PAD for downscales too, which
will fix this bug once and for all. I have a patch which I think will do
this.

Use EXTEND_PAD on X

It needs review first, and maybe some rebasing.

alternative patch: unconditional EXTEND_PAD

I can't see myself being OK with this any time soon - there are too many
people with old-enough X that unconditional EXTEND_PAD will hurt.

[Bug 951790] Re: Laptop does not suspend on lid close when external display is connected

2014-02-01 Thread Drew Noakes
It seems that the behaviour desired by this bug is the default in Ubuntu
13.10.

Note too that there are people lobbying to be able to sleep on lid-close
only when no monitor is connected as well! See
http://askubuntu.com/q/362337/17164

When I move to my desk, I close the laptop and use a nice large monitor.
There does not seem to be an option to avoid sleeping on lid close when
an external monitor is connected any more.

This sounds similar to the issue described here:

A workaround that solved the issue for me was to disable the MTP plugin.

This issue seems to persist in some form for package opencv - 2.4.5

Running pkg-config --libs opencv does report -lopencv_ocl, as

gcc builds that include the output of pkg-config --libs opencv will

[Bug 1208270] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5520] Touchpad intermittently does not work upon startup

2013-08-08 Thread Drew Blasius
I was having some serious problems with my Windows 7 partition, so I
elected to undergo a system restore. Beforehand, I was receiving the
following message when attempting to boot into Ubuntu 13.03 from GRUB:

ERROR : Attempted to read or write outside of disk 'hd0'.

Boot Repair suggested that I create a boot partition. After the
partition was created, I no longer received this message, and I haven't
had any problems with my touchpad working upon startup.
