[Bug 1388276] Re: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks
While I was watching the C compilation going on on my 8 cores, I noticed the following differences n the CPU usage reported by top. In kernel 3.16 all gcc instances (actually cc1) are using 25%, but with 3.13 they are all between 97 or 99%. [Bug 1388276] Re: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks
I had the idea to downgrade the kernel to 3.13 (i.e. the latest kernel from the 14.04 release) and now I get the proper timing for the C tasks: with gcc 4.9: 497.400u 11.065s 1:43.49 491.3% 0+0k 191184+175312io 542pf+0w with gcc 4.8: 487.047u 12.155s 1:45.83 471.6% 0+0k 26304+172720io 411pf+0w I'm also checking the longer task and will report shortly if it comes back to a decent time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388276 Title: 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1388276/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1388276] [NEW] 14.10 about 2 to 3 times slower to perform concurrent tasks
Public bug reported: I've just upgraded two servers to use 14.10 (they were before at 14.04) and found that my builds were taking much longer: - A jenkins regression test suite that took about 135 minutes is now taking about 300 minutes. - A C complation tasks which took the following amount of time (time from tcsh): 419.633u 9.471s 1:36.78 443.3% 0+0k 0+166968io 0pf+0w is now taking 519.637u 11.022s 4:42.80 187.6% 0+0k 0+176216io 0pf+0w Both tasks are heavily using all the available cores of the processor. In one case it is a dual socket E5420 ( 8 cores), in another case it is a virtualized 8 cores E5645. [Bug 420424] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure
I've upgraded to an even more recent version of the BIOS (version F.18) in which HP stated having fixed a suspend issue for Fedora and found out that it also solves that issue too without having to suspend or disable the ricoh_mmc driver. I believe that the issue can now be closed if it works for others too. -- [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 420424] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure
some findings today. The original poster and myself are using 68PCD F.05 version of the bios. I've decided to upgrade to the latest version which is 68PCD F.13. After doing that it still failed. However after disabling ricoh_mmc suspend/resume seems to work (modulo the brightness that was set to the lowest value on resume). I'll have to try a few reboot suspend resume sequence to see if this works 100% of the time. So for those for which disabling ricoh_mmc did not work, you may want to try the BIOS upgrade. -- [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 420424] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure
Blacklist ricoh_mmc had no effect for me and I made sure I rebooted and did `lsmod' to verify it was not loaded. No effect :-( I'm using the ATI driver as I'm using an external monitor and when I upgraded to 9.04 the default driver was too slow. I tried to revert back to see if the driver could have an effect on the suspend/resume issue but I must have a wrong xorg.conf file because ubuntu would crash on startup. Anything I could do for helping diagnose the issue? -- [Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 6930p] suspend/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 384924] Re: [iwlagn] Wireless stops working for seconds at a time
I've followed the suggestion from: http://www.backports.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7931639 and although it does not fix the problem, it certainly improved the situation by reducing the number of loss packets. -- [iwlagn] Wireless stops working for seconds at a time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/384924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 384924] Re: [iwlagn] Wireless stops working for seconds at a time
I'm having the exact same problem on Ubuntu 9.04. In a different mailing list, Paul Jones got the following response: << I'd suspect that the lack of scanning patches in your kernel is the problem. commit a9a6d05f97e6acbdeafc595e269855829751 Author: Kalle Valo Date: Wed Mar 18 14:06:44 2009 +0200 You'll also want to try turning on software scanning instead of the hardware scanning, which can help in some cases with older kernels (ie, before 2.6.30). That can be accomplished by passing the driver "disable_hw_scan=1" when modprobing it, usually via file dropped into /etc/modprobe.d/ that contains: options iwlagn disable_hw_scan=1 >> but it did not do much to improve the situation. Any idea what is wrong? -- [iwlagn] Wireless stops working for seconds at a time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/384924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
