[Bug 756492] Re: Unity fails to load fully

2011-04-15 Thread Eric Schaffner
Other OpenGL applications like Google Earth work fine on my system. This
could also be a specific interaction between compiz and the nvidia
drivers. Compiz hangs in Unity and in the classic desktop. Like
everyone else, compiz is fine with nouveau for me. I also have a
GeForce Go 7400 in my system like the original poster. Desktop effects
work fine in 10.10.

[Bug 545864] Re: Error WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND in pam_winbind causes passwd to fail

I see the same behavior on a new Lucid install. The above workaround
also works for me.

[Bug 352716] [NEW] Gnome-panel won't start when run through NX session

2009-03-31 Thread Eric Schaffner
Public bug reported:

(1) Release

Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

(2) Package versions
freenx:
  Installed: 0.7.3+teambzr102-0freenxteam1
  Candidate: 0.7.3+teambzr102-0freenxteam1
gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu5

(3) I expect gnome-panel to run through an NX session.

(4) Prior to today's updates, the gnome panel displayed and ran without
problems through an NX session. After applying today's updates, gnome
panel crashes on start with the below error message. This occurs both
with the FreeNX packages as well as the NoMachine packages:

Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display :1000.0.
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display :1000.0.
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display :1000.0.
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display :1000.0.
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display :1000.0.
The program 'gnome-panel' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 134 error_code 1 request_code 150 minor_code 8)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 175060] Re: /dev/null has wrong mode

2008-01-01 Thread Eric Schaffner
I can confirm this is broken on my system with the 117-3 upgrade. udev
starts up, but it totally ignores the rules. I have a temporary
workaround that will at least let me log in until this is addressed,
thanks to Google. Add these lines to my /etc/rc.local file:

chmod 666 /dev/null
chmod 666 /dev/pty*
chmod 666 /dev/random
chmod 666 /dev/urandom

Note: All ALSA devices (/dev/snd/*) are also missing. The OSS
compatibility dev nodes are still there, though. To get sound to work
through these, I added these lines to rc.local:

chmod 666 /dev/audio*
chmod 666 /dev/pcm*
chmod 666 /dev/seq*
chmod 666 /dev/controlC*
chmod 666 /dev/dsp*
chmod 666 /dev/mixer*
chmod 666 /dev/adsp

[Bug 178234] Re: GTK themes doesn't work.

2007-12-26 Thread Eric Schaffner
There's a temporary workaround you can use:

(1) Install a GTK theme like QtCurve. A default Kubuntu install will
only have Raleigh (unpleasing) and QtGTK (doesn't work).

(2) Run gtk-chtheme (in Universe) and select the new theme.

Hope this helps.
