[Bug 1437846] Re: akonadi mysql 5.6 crash with signal 11

2015-04-28 Thread Félim Whiteley
I can confirm the fix worked for me was to change from mysql to maria DB
as per

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/akonadi/+bug/1445383/comments/3

Everything started up correctly after it installed mariadb. Thanks
folks.

[Bug 965371] Re: HTTPS requests fail on sites which immediately close the connection if TLS 1.1 negotiation is attempted, on Ubuntu 12.04

2012-10-23 Thread Félim Whiteley
KillerKellerjr are you refering to http://code.google.com/p/libsrvrmgrd-
osx/ ? That's my plugin. I've had someone edit the file to fix the issue
http://code.google.com/p/libsrvrmgrd-osx/issues/detail?id=16

If you want to join in to that bug I can try help you there...

Marc, I think the issue is the fact that there is no way to update
Servers to get around this or disable it in the client, it is Apple, not
renowned for being open/responsive to external factors. While I agree
they should all handle TLS correctly the fact is they don't and
userspace appears to be broken.

2012-06-28 Thread Félim Whiteley
This is also effecting me but I _DID_NOT_ run out of space, in fact I've
about 500GB free. System is upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 Kubuntu.

kernel: 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

ecryptfs-utils: 96-0ubuntu3

Same characteristics, .Private with 0 size files, so far some firefox
files that didn't casue a problem and a coupld of cache files but I've
notied a few times Akonadi (Kubuntu 12.04) through up strange errors
which may be related.

A recurring one is
~/.mozilla/firefox/m1cop2xb.default/urlclassifier3.sqlite-journal
&
.mozilla/firefox/m1cop2xb.default/permissions.sqlite-journal

[Bug 694824] Re: Included demo Fails with code 3

2012-03-08 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've managed to fix this bug in some of my own code. I had run a similar
piece of code where I was using "scrollbox" and I was supplying a width
and heigth. This worked fine run from an SSH session but wasn't working
locally at the machine. If I remove it it works fine. Almost like I was
forcing it outside of the edges of the terminal settings. This could be
incorrect but might be worth a shot if you edit the demo script.

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files

2011-08-09 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've just been bitten with this. Soemthing ate 500GB (yes GB!) one night
when my machine was on.. I couldn't find out what had done it, the
machine eventually restarted and the culprit was gone so it must have
been some crazy cache issue. It has made a right mess of KDE on me,
Akonadi looks to be broken because of it. I continually get messages
like:

[32223.735781] Valid eCryptfs headers not found in file header region or xattr
region
[32223.735788] Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the
key could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is not enabled;
returning -EIO

Kernel is: 2.6.38-11-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 29 19:02:55 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Running find ../.ecryptfs/felim/.Private -xdev -size 0c -exec ls '{}' \;
| wc -l

Gives me 351 files... I've tried following this thread but it's hard to
know what can be done. IS a restore from backup the only real option?

[Bug 550559] Re: hdd problems, failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED

2011-06-22 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've meant to update this. I thought mine was fixed but it rapidly
turned out to be wrong. It now builds the RAID1 array, looks to complete
but then fails at the very end and marks the array as stale. This is
with Hitachi drives. I'm trying to track down if this is an issue like
you might have found with the WD & Seagate, but no luck so far, they
don't have great data available as far as I can see.

[Bug 781255] [NEW] libsane Backend Epson DX-7400 No 150 DPI Option

2011-05-11 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libsane

Using XSane with the Epson or epson2 backend from libsane it is no
longer possible to select 150 as the DPI setting in XSane's drop down
list. This worked in 10.04 but is now missing in 10.10.

I was able to verify that this should be possible by editing the package
sane-backends by apt-getting the source.

It's sane-backends-1.0.21
ADD LINE: sane-backends-1.0.21/backend/epson2-ops.c:205:
e2_add_resolution(dev, 150);

This forces 150 DPI as an option which works. The scanner without this
option allows 300DPI which makes images to large for emailing and 100DPI
which are very grainy. I'm not sure how to properly get the 150 option
as I couldn't figure out if the Scanner is reporting that it can't do
150 or if it's a conf setting somewhere.

Thanks,

Félim

With an upgrade to Natty (2.6.38-9-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP) this is now

processor and memory, everything else onboard. I've full RAID1 running
on both disks with no issues.

[Bug 550559] Re: hdd problems, failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED

2011-03-29 Thread Félim Whiteley
This is effecting me as well. I've the same SB700/800 chipset but with 2
1TB Hitachi drives (I don't have the model to hand). They don't cause
the issue all the time. Running an apt update/upgrade caused it
momentarily but logging into KDE causes it to almost block the drive for
good minute.

[Bug 629587] Re: Novatech X10-TP Netbook audio hiss once GDM/Gnome starts [Realtek ALC662 rev1]

2010-12-29 Thread Félim Whiteley
This still effects the machine so I'm setting it back to what it was
before... I've not been able to adjust any volume levels etc. Only
solution so far has been to put every kernel module related to the
soundcard on the modules blacklist. Which solves the issue, not ideal
clearly but does show it's a software problem and nothing hardware
related.

[Bug 629587] Re: Novatech X10-TP Netbook audio hiss once GDM/Gnome starts [Realtek ALC662 rev1]

2010-10-18 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've tried the volume level trick already, it didn't work, even using
alsamixer to make sure it wasn't a hidden one. Muting the master doesn't
even effect it. I grepped for all kernel modules with snd and put them
all into the black list file. that stopped it loading the driver and
killed off the hiss. Not ideal obviously.

Hi Luke,

Unfortunately that doesn't help. Should add that plugging in headphones
creates an even louder buzz from the right speaker.

Anything else I can try?

2010-09-03 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

When the system boots all is well till just prior to GDM login screen
starts. Just before that (oerhaps when audio daemon starts) a audible
hiss comes from the front right speaker. I've attempted to use the
modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change the card type to all of

Using the following line:

[Bug 602213] Re: Wireless hotkey does not work

2010-09-01 Thread Félim Whiteley
Ah I've found out what actually activated it for me. I had installed

linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic

whilst testing. I've uninstalled it and again wireless just doesn't
work. Reinstall and it does, so I'm 99.99% sure that's the cause for me.
So something has changed between those two that allows it to work for
me. I tried modinfo to see if there was any version changes between the
two but they are identical version numbers. Not sure if there is
anything else I can do to help here?

[Bug 602213] Re: Wireless hotkey does not work

2010-09-01 Thread Félim Whiteley
Argh unbelievable, it must have been timing issue, I just retried
activating the card at slightly later stage in the boot splash and it's
worked! Is there anything I can re-add to this to help narrow down
getting it activated without having to hit the power on during boot?

Thanks for the pointer Chris.. I think I was doing it too early, perhaps
before kernel was ready... seriously strange goings on! But I'm happy at
least it runs!

[Bug 602213] Re: Wireless hotkey does not work

2010-09-01 Thread Félim Whiteley
Hey Chris,

Unfortunatly I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work at all. The
whole activating of the wireless is a little odd in fact it doesn't seem
to have an effect sometimes. dmesg doesn't report much either.
/var/log/syslog does give NetworkManager errors and timeouts though.
Very odd..

[Bug 602213] Re: Wireless hotkey does not work

2010-08-31 Thread Félim Whiteley
I'm having this issue as well, to specify it's a Novatech X10-TP and the
results are exactly the same as Chris's initial report. I can check
upstream kernels or whatever you deem missing to have closed this. Right
now on 10.4 UNR kernel 2.6.32-24-generic gives same issue. Switching the
Wireless on/off via the fn+f2 key only (not always) produces

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP):wlan0: link is not ready

Network manager reports state change from 2 -> 3 (reason 42) then
wpa_supplicant fails with [855] failed to initiate AP scan. By default
as Chris stated the card is disabled on each boot. There's no BIOS
option to force this.

[Bug 365669] Re: Intrepid to Jaunty upgrade - disk uuid missing

2010-07-20 Thread Félim Whiteley
Hi Fabio,

It doesn't appear to be, although I've only done fresh installs for the
last couple of rebuilds. This was on an older machine which has since
been rebuilt with a fresh install of Lucid and the problem did not
occur.

Thanks,

Félim

[Bug 540170] [NEW] Opening Dolphin Opens Second Background Window With Nothing In It

2010-03-17 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

Dolphin
Version 1.4
Using KDE Development Platform 4.4.1 (KDE 4.4.1)

Just opening Dolphin from either the menu or the panel applet causes a
second window titled Dolphin to open which is filled with whatever is
behind it. I've attached a screenshot where it has the desktop wallpaper
but if there was say a browser window open then it would contain that
instead. I can send it to another desktop and it will still contain that
image so a refresh doesn't help.

[Bug 522659] [NEW] Amarok Parses Linux Outlaws RSS Feed Incorrectly Downloading Files Repeatedly

Public bug reported:

Using Amarok 2.2.2 [Version: 2:2.2.2-0ubuntu1~karmic1~ppa1]

Select http://feeds.feedburner.com/linuxoutlaws-ogg

Set the feed to automatically download new file. It will correctly
download the files the first time. Then on 2nd (and all consecutive
updates) it will download the files again, continually filling up the
HDD. This is the same outcome with the mp3 RSS feed also.

[Bug 522101] [NEW] ksplash missing 1280x800 Ethais Background Link

2010-02-15 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ksplash

I've upgraded to the KDE 4.4 PPA for Karmic and when logging in the
Default spash theme, Ethais would all of a sudden through the animated
sequence switch t the old Oxygen dark blue with bubbles background. I
noticed in the ksplash theme directory there was no 1280x800 so I fixed
it by:

cd /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/Default/
sudo mkdir 1280x800
sudo ln -s ../../../../../../wallpapers/Ethais/contents/images/1280x800.png
background.png

It worked fine after this. I also not in the PPS the 640x480, 800x600
and 1024x768 are alos missing. There was no image in the main wallpapers
directories for me to link them up though.

[Bug 512830] [NEW] KJots Bookmark & Bold Shortcut Conflict - Set To Control B

2010-01-26 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kjots

Running KJots (Version: 4:4.3.4-0ubuntu1~karmic1) from inside Kontact or
as a standalone application the global shortcut for KJots has ctrl-b set
to bold text and also to bookmark a note. Setting the bookmark shortcut
to "None" is reset every time the application is restarted or when
moving between the different components of Kontact, even without a
restart.

I'd find it more useful to have ctrl-b used for bolding text.

[Bug 482721] Re: Karmic Upgrade Networkmanager No Longer Has Wireless

2010-01-22 Thread Félim Whiteley
Ok something odd is happening, I rebooted into the 17 kernel to see if
wireless died again, it did, so I thought problem solved by the 18
kernel. No... I've jsut rebooted into 18 and I'm back to the RF-
Killswitch nonsense, I really don't know how it started working
yesterday! Any ideas?

Nothing was changed in last 24hrs bar the addition ofthe sun-
java6-plugin.

2010-01-21 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've jsut had the card start working again this monring. I'm running
vmlinuz-2.6.31-18 and it's functioning correctly. Problem is I'm not
entirly sure when this started work! I believe it's only this monring,
but it doesn't look like anything I installed yesterday could have
solved that issue, the Kernel was installed on the 8th of January and
I'm pretty sure it was still broken.

2010-01-03 Thread Félim Whiteley
For some reason and I can't figure out why it doesn't work when I try an
older Kernel, that particular one in fact. The time stamp has been
modified on the kernel modules directory too which is really odd, almost
like something was updated on the older kernel. Unfortunately I really
don't know what might have triggered it.

[Bug 482721] Re: Karmic Upgrade Networkmanager No Longer Has Wireless

2009-12-15 Thread Félim Whiteley
Ok seems I misunderstood the use of the kernel backports module. so lets
ignore that! But I've discoverd what appears to be happening, although
it's beyond me why. I had Network Manager open, the "Enable Wireless"
checkbox is disabled as it believes there is no Wifi card. I also open
syslog. I flicked the hardware kill switch from the on to off position.

For a brief second the "Enable Wireless" became clickable, the syslog
reported me sending an enable to the card but then almost immediatly it
sent a kill, thereby greyout out the tickbox again and printing the kill
commands in the syslog. I did this a couple of times, the last dumping a
whole load of debuging info by the looks of it (possibly unrelated).
Hope this helps..

To clarify;
 - the switch in the on position does nothing
 - switch to off momentarily activates the card but immediatly kills it again

Attached a dmesg again in case of use. again it appears in dmesg but

[Bug 482721] Re: Karmic Upgrade Networkmanager No Longer Has Wireless

2009-11-14 Thread Félim Whiteley
Should mention it turns up fine in dmesg, iwconfig also shows it as
there but not associated. Network Manager doesn't even show it though.
I've attached dmesg output, I later after boot switch the kill switch on
and off in case any interesting info could be gleaned.

[Bug 482721] [NEW] Karmic Upgrade Networkmanager No Longer Has Wireless

2009-11-14 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

After the set of updates on Friday (13/11/2009 see attached updates log)
Network Manager has stopped seeing the intel 3945 wireless card on my
Dell 1520 inspiron. It was working perfectly prior to the update, it's
not related to the kill switch issue people appear to be having as I
don't touch the hard button. I'm not sure which update broke it.

[Bug 406250] Re: Arora 0.8.0 Does Not Import Konqueror Bookmarks

2009-08-13 Thread Félim Whiteley
Changing line 3 of my bookmarks.xml from:

To This:

Fixed it. Arora can now import. Perhaps KDE 4.3.00 should "fix" the
bookmarks.xml file if it finds that line incorrect from upgrades to
Karmic or maybe it's in the actual browser?

[Bug 406250] [NEW] Arora 0.8.0 Does Not Import Konqueror Bookmarks

2009-07-29 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: arora

I've logged it on their site as well at
http://code.google.com/p/arora/issues/detail?id=557

But For completeness:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create bookmarks in Konqueror (Ver. 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2))
2. Load Bookmarks.xml in the import bookmarks option in Arora (0.8.0)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected bookmarks to load into bookmarks menu. Instead got Error:

Error when loading bookmarks on line 8, column 44:
Namespace prefix 'bookmark' not declared

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.8.0 on Kubuntu 9.04

Unfortuntly the ramdisk is unable to complete, so that command wouldn't
work, that being said I gave up and did a fresh install, the laptop was
useless for a week.

Sorry I couldn't leave it around. I will try replicate with another
laptop but it might have been a once off event.

[Bug 365669] Re: Intrepid to Jaunty upgrade - disk uuid missing

2009-04-23 Thread Félim Whiteley
I think this may be an update-initramfs error. I've jsut run an dpkg-
reconfigure -a and got the following error at he end:

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic
cpio: ./sbin/udevadm: Function stat failed: No such file or directory
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic

On reboot of system it unsurprisingly did not work.

[Bug 365669] [NEW] Intrepid to Jaunty upgrade - disk uuid missing

2009-04-23 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty (Intrepid was fresh install from
Alternate install CD using full disk encryption and LVM). Jaunty upgrade
went ok, removed old Kernels and packages, but on reboot there was a
long timeout approx 6 secs into dmesg, the timeout taking approx 3mins
before busybox came up.

Initial thought was the initramfs not properly built for disk encryption
as per bug #317297. This was false assumption, turned out the symlink
from /de/disk/by-uuid/disks_uuid_number -> /dev/sda5 was missing,
causing crypt modules to not be loaded.

Create symnlink manually, ctrl-d out of busybox and it immediatly asked
for passphrase to decrypt drive. System booted, although currentl with
no GDM, suspicion of bad upgrade. This is weird as there was no
warning/errors in Synaptic/update-manager while still intrepid.

[Bug 334329] [NEW] Intrepid KDE4.2 Notifications Duplicated Three Times

2009-02-25 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure what application runs the new notification pop-ups in
KDE4.2 on Intrepid. Every notification the displays is triplicated, ie.
my Kicker is on top of screen and when a torrent is finished as an
example, three boxes stacked one below the other appears to let me know
when 1 Torrent has finished. It's happening with any, Network Transfer,
Kopete Message. Always 3 messages for what should be one, they are all
identical. I'm updated to the latest version that's in Backports right
now.

[Bug 324277] Re: kde4.2 install failed: dependency problems

2009-02-22 Thread Félim Whiteley
I've just encountered this this morning after getting update to 4.2
indication on my Intrepid install (with back-ports enabled). Mine seemed
to be an issue with Kate requiring libplasma3 but libplasma2 was
blocking it. I've attached a dump of errors I got but I can attach
anything els ein case it's of use (or open a new bug if you want it).

I got around it by manually force installing libplasma3, the tried a
forced overwrite of

kdebase-workspace-libs4+5_4%3a4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid2_i386.deb

Which seemed to be the next problem after the Kate issue, then I just
did a force on full-upgrade (patience ran out !) and it worked. So
perhaps I didn't do it in most effiecient way but I've got 4.2 running.

[Bug 323136] [NEW] Kubuntu Upgrade To Jaunty No Documentation

2009-01-30 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

Well it's not a package, it's the websites, the only reference seems to
be the ubuntu.com one:

http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/alpha3

With "update-manager -d" which is not correct for KDE as this pulls in
56 Gnome libs/deps. I can't find it (Perhaps down to poor Google skills)
on the kubuntu.org site. The only referance is on the kubuntuguide.org
site, but that again is incorrect as it's saying to use

kdesu "adept-manager --dist-upgrade-devel"

Adept has changed and there is no suck p[ackage, and adept itself only
takes the installer or upgrade commands.

[Bug 293206] Re: Sort Date In Kontact To-Do List Ignores Year

2008-12-27 Thread Félim Whiteley
I meant to update this ages ago. I set my master KDE date layout too
-MM-DD to fix it, but I reckon in the backend it should perhaps
*understand* date layout, in my mind sorting by date rarely involves
anything other than Newest To Oldest, or at least by default it should
do this. If someone wants to find every date starting on the 1st of the
Month then they should configure it but for 1st time user might be a
little odd of a setting.

Well problem fixed for me but maybe it's something to consider anyway.

Cheers,

[Bug 293206] [NEW] Sort Date In Kontact To-Do List Ignores Year

2008-11-03 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

The Sort by Date does not function correctly it does not take into
account both Year and Month.

Steps to reproduce:

- Create a To-Do list item dated for instance 01/04/09
- Create a To-Do list item dated 01/11/08

Sorting by date/time lists the 01/04/09 before 01/11/08

This has changed since KDE3 as it functioned correctly.

[Bug 292969] [NEW] Saved Session Names After Upgrade From KDE3 HArdy Appear as Hex/Random Ascii

2008-11-03 Thread Félim Whiteley
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded from Hardy and KDE3 to Intrepid with obviously KDE4.
Upgrade was smooth and caused no issue, but oddly the Saved Sessions in
Kate are now using what appears to be the Session ID for the saved
session name rather than the physical name. This is when I look at the
drop down list of saved session names inside Kate itself. What's really
odd is if I use the Kate Session Applet plasmoid it reads them fine and
displays the proper names. Very bizare stuff.

If you need anything from me on this let me know, can't really give you
the session files as they are remote sftp sessions. The only one that
shows up correctly is "Default", the rest are gibberish, I've attached a
screenshot of it.

Thanks,

Félim

[Bug 273313] Re: TSC Clocksource Unstable Switches To acpi_pm But Server clock freezes/becomes unusable

2008-10-13 Thread Félim Whiteley
Well I managed to run the server for a good week until I got the
following:

[1110565.137933] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 3271800672992 ns)
[1110565.147908] Time: acpi_pm clocksource has been installed.
[1185505.906355] set_rtc_mmss: can't update from 59 to 0

I'd thought I'd found the initial problem where this server and one like
it run checks against various hosts and due to a bug in some checking
code had been fighting over hosts, getting lots of failed process and
utilisation went through the roof. But with the other off this box
lasted a week, but alas it still failed.

Any ideas ? The time on the box is not stuck at 1440hrs yesterday

[Bug 273313] Re: TSC Clocksource Unstable Switches To acpi_pm But Server clock freezes/becomes unusable

2008-09-23 Thread Félim Whiteley
Correction it appears there was no reboot when I upgraded from
2.6.24.16.18, so the first use of the 2.6.24-19.36 kernel actually
appeared to cause an error. I skipped the first -19 upgrade.

Aug 24 11:38:54 host-01 kernel: [0.00] Linux version
2.6.24-19-server ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #1 SMP Sat Jul 12 00:40:01 UTC 2008 (Ubuntu
2.6.24-19.36-server)
