[Bug 1649019] Re: Warzone 2100 freezes repeatedly in full screen mode
Since this bug affects Unity and Gnome sessions but not KDE sessions it is not a fault in Warzone itself. Therefore I am changing the classification of the issue to Unity. ** Package changed: warzone2100 (Ubuntu) => unity8-desktop-session (Ubuntu) ** Description changed: - Set Warzone to use full screen mode and optimum resolution for your - display, then restart. + Set Warzone to use full screen mode and 2560x1440 then restart. Launch Warzone, choose Single Player > Start Skirmish Game Whilst you are choosing game preferences or when you click the checkbox to begin the game the program will freeze. The issue came sometimes by overcome by switching to a different VT and then switching back. I have been playing Warzone on Ubuntu for years using all versions up to - the upstream 3.2.1 without any problems. This problem started with + the upstream 3.2.2 without any problems. [Bug 1509858] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.10 won't boot unless external USB drive is connected
Public bug reported: Hi, I have a working installation of Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 x64. I have an external USB drive (MyBook) that is connected all the time. The system has been working correctly for a week, and *probably* booting correctly even when the external drive was turned off. (I can't say 100% whether I have booted it with the drive off before today). In order to allow this drive to be accessed and mounted/unmounted by all users of the system I have added it to /etc/fstab. /dev/sdc1 /media/MyBook ext4 rw,user,nosuid,nodev,relatime,data=ordered,uhelper=udisks2 molly@molly:~$ ls -l /media total 12 drwxr-x---+ 2 root root 4096 Oct 18 11:30 charlotte drwxr-x---+ 2 root root 4096 Oct 25 18:26 molly drwx-- 8 molly molly 4096 Oct 25 18:44 MyBook However, now if I turn the drive off and reboot the system Ubuntu doesn't start correctly. I get the Ubuntu logo with the 'spinner' and then after a couple of minutes the emergency mode screen. It is very hard to get any useful information about the cause of the boot failure once you reach this point. The journalctl -xb command gives a vast amount of information without making it clear what the problem is. This bug is still present in Unity in 15.10 beta 2. This should not be marked as a duplicate because: 1. This bug clearly explains a single problem whereas the other bug report references multiple problem. 2. This bug has a descriptive title containing the key words "Toggle Desktop" 3. The other bug 1311323 is still active despite being marked as critical 15 months ago! Also, this bug report lists the affected package as unity-tweak-tool. [Bug 1489630] [NEW] Random Software Updates request password for encrypted partition
Public bug reported: I have an encrypted partition (luks / cryptsetup) on my drive which is mounted manually when required and only contains documents. Regularly, when Software Updater is run and updates are installed the update process will stall, and if the command line window is expanded I can see that one of the updates is requesting that I enter the password to mount the encrypted partition. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE PARTITION TO BE REQUIRED Today, the application which did this was CUPS (Please see attachment) however on previous occasions it has been other updates. Today, I did not enter the password was request twice by the package but I did not enter the password, I just pressed enter and the package seems to have installed successfully. I will update this bug in the future with other applications which cause this issue. I sent in several updates via email but they haven't appeared so I will repeat them here: Today I have tested another DVD burnt under Windows on a modern Dell laptop. I checked the md5 sum. Same result as all the other tests. == When I boot the latest DVD on my laptop I get unexpected results: On the laptop it briefly shows the grey screen with the keyboard icon at the bottom but then takes ages to start and then presents a full desktop and the installer asking whether you want try or install. Whereas on the HP ML115 it gets quickly to a language selection screen and then the install, test, check disk, boot from 1st hard disk screen. Further testing shows that if you press keys early in the boot sequence then you go straight to the language screen. This explains my finding on the HP ML 115 which I had not realised was by design Testing my various DVDs on the windows laptop gives the following results: 1) Ubuntu Gnome Beta2 - disk check reports no errors found - boots direct to full desktop 2) Saucy daily build 3) Ubuntu beta2 desktop 64 bit - disk check reports no errors found - boots direct to full desktop 4) ubuntu beta2 desktop 32bit - disk check reports no errors found - boots direct to full desktop 5) ubuntu gnome beta2 (burnt on windows laptop) - boots directly to full desktop - disk check reports no errors found SUMMARY Multiple DVDs, all integrity checked and md5 verified fail to work properly on my HP ML115 These include DVDs burnt at different speeds and on different machines. This includes DVDs burnt at 4x and 8x in Brassero (and verified) on the HP115 itself. This suggests that the DVD writer is working correctly. Does the beta2 DVD work on other HP ML 115 machines? Next step: test live usb instead of burning to disk == I have now caught up with the 21st century and made a Live USB instead of DVD. The result is the same. If you leave the system to boot by itself, or you intervene and choose "Try without installing" etc, it always fails at the same point: BusyBox v1.20.2 (Ubuntu 1:120.0-8.1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands (initramfs) Have you been able to test this on another HP ML115 machine? [Bug 1232924] Re: Saucy Beta2 installer fails on HP ML115
I just tested the i386 version and got the same result. So far I have tested the following ISOs: saucy-desktop-amd64 (ubuntu gnome daily build) burnt at 4x ubuntu-gnome-13.10-beta2-desktop-amd64, md5sum checked, burnt at 4x ubuntu-13.10-beta2-desktop-amd64, md5sum checked, burnt at 8x ubuntu-13.10-beta2-desktop-i386, md5sum checked, burnt at 16x I said above that: "also when I burnt them with Brassero I ticked the box which says something like 'Verify after burning'" but actually Brassero doesn't have such a check box. :-) however, it does suggest that as part of the burning process it calculates a checksum of the disk after burning. So I am prety sure that the downloaded ISO matches the DVD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232924 Title: Saucy Beta2 installer fails on HP ML115 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1232924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have opened another bug report for the case where you die soon after rebirth, or at other points unexpectedly: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/606624 Therefore this bug can be just about the problem upon reversal and can be closed when appropriate -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 606624] [NEW] Nibbles - Unexpected Death upon rebirth (gnibbles)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games As reported by others in the following thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-games/+bug/574212 The following 2 behaviours can be observed: 1) Death upon rebirth 2) Unexplained death during play (not associated with reversal) I will assume that the same cause underlies both. Investigation has shown me that in the case of (2) the program believes you are colliding with another worm (often number 6) when the display shows that the other worm is in a completely different area of the board. Therefore there is a discrepancy between the internal board representation (board->walls) and the screen representation (clutter actor). In the case of (1) I imagine that there is an 'invisible segment' of worm close to the point at which you are reborn with which you collide. Therefore you die immediately after rebirth, whereas if you manage to change direction immediately you can avoid death. I have not yet made any progress in finding or fixing the underlying bug. :-( ** Affects: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death upon rebirth (gnibbles) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606624 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574212] Re: Nibbles - Unexpected Death
Just a clarification on the patch to make it easier to be merged upstream: In the shipping code the worm-> list is reversed before the data of movement of the tail is captured. This provides the wrong answer. The patch ensures that the direction of the tail is computed before any changes are made to the current worm data. The existing code then _correctly_ reverses the old_dir because it represents the direction of motion of the tail rather than the direction in which the tail is pointing. The direction in which the tail is pointing prior to reversal is of course the direction that we want to finally assign as the new direction of motion. Hope that helps. -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574212] Re: Nibbles - Unexpected Death
Hi, I had this problem often, so I had a look at it this week - here is a patch. :-) The problem was that when an AI worm ate a diamond, which reverses all other players, the calculation to determine which direction you were now moving in was incorrect. If your worm was moving in a straight line (imagine a short worm with no kinks) say right, then the direction assigned after reversing would also be right and the new head/old tail would run in to the body of the worm. The correction is a very straightforward, hopefully it can be merged quickly. ** Patch added: "gnibbles patch for reverse bug in worm.c" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/52045966/patchfile.patch -- Nibbles - Unexpected Death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50801] During Install partitioner is unnecessarily complicated
Public bug reported: When partitoning manually during install you are shown the table of existing partitons. It seems to me that: 1. If you want to make a modification, then you have to perform the action(say delete a partiton) at which point your action is displayed in the box of Pending Actions. Yopu then HAVE to click Forward to perform the action, and then have to click 'Back' to get back to the partiton table. >From a user perspective this felt pretty poor. 2. Having finished making any modifications you then click Forward and are asked to specify which partitions you want to mount as /, /boot/swap etc. Since you may have 7 (in my case) or more partitons you have to either have remembered the device number (hda2 etc) for each, or you have to scroll through the choices and say 'that is 13GB therefore it must be /. That is 500MB therefore it must be swap' etc. >From a user perspective it would be much easier if this mapping could be carried out on the same screen as the partition table. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- During Install partitioner is unnecessarily complicated https://launchpad.net/bugs/50801 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50800] During Install Partitioner shows tiny partions in MB not KB
Public bug reported: See Bug 20418 for background. During Install the partitoner lists partitons with sizes of less than 1MB as a fraction of a MB. Specifically, an 800K partition is shown as 0.78MB. In my particular scenario (see #20418) it was necessary to know whether the partiton was 800k as opposed to say 799K. Therefore suggest that partitons of less than 1 MB are displayed in KB. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- During Install Partitioner shows tiny partions in MB not KB https://launchpad.net/bugs/50800 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50795] During install partitioner does not allow creation of NewWorld boot partition.
Public bug reported: See bug 20418 for background. Installing 6.06 on to a PowerBook. After partitioning I receive the warning 'NewWorld Boot partiton not found' or similar. (The message is incorrect since I did have a NewWorld partiton) Therefore I choose 'back' to try to correct the problem, but the partitioner does not appear to know how to create a NewWorld boot partition. Therefore I presume the only way to succesfully install 6.06 onto a Mac is to select the option of automatically partitioning the whole disk. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- During install partitioner does not allow creation of NewWorld boot partition. https://launchpad.net/bugs/50795 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 20418] Re: bootstrap partition problem
I had this same problem. It cost hours of fiddling! :-(( I was installing ubuntu 6.06 on top of Suse on my PowerBook. therefore I already had the Newworld boot partition as well as swap and /boot and /. I asked the partitioner to reformat swap, /boot and /. I then was given an error message saying that no Newworld boot partiton could be found. So I went back and tried to 'fix' the 'problem'. 2 hours later (after multiple attempts, crashes of the installer etc) I had the machine back in the original state. That is to say I had a correct neworld boot partition and all the other partitions mentioned. Once again I asked the installer to format swap, /boot and /. And once again the installer warned me that no NewWorld boot partition could be found, however I ignored the warning and continued with the installation. The installation completed succesfully with yaboot being correctly installed!! (N.B. I know I don't need a /boot partition, but I happened to have a chunk of freespace on my disk of 128MB, so I choose to use it as /boot. I am not confusing it with the NewWorld boot partition :-) -- bootstrap partition problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/20418 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
