I am also back to 32bit on an old computer but this is because the
64bit-machine died. As I have the same surfing-habit as I had on the
faster, better equipped machine I can say: No problems on 32bit side,
no more "stuck" videos or jerking when refreshing the buffer (less
RAM, slower CPU, 8 MB graphic card instead of 256).

The 64bit-version is why I fully switched to Ubuntu, but the
Flashplayer-problem is/was very annoying as I am working on several
websites which use Flash-videos.
I'm now back to 32bit on an older computer as the 64bit-machine died.
It feels a little bit "quicker" (smoother) for me, don't know why. But
maybe it's just because I know the computer is slower?

This worked as expected.

This also worked. I don't remember using some break-command but what I
remember is that the system seemed to hang several times for some minutes
when it was about to install those chinese(?) fonts for which I don't have
any use neither wanted to have.

Thanks for your quick reply and working solution!

2008-10-19 Thread Ferdinand Tschernitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

Did a Distribution-Upgrade from 7.1 to 8.04 via the routine in the
"System"-menu. This took about 12hrs to complete although it said it would take
a little more than 2hrs (including download).
[I haven't watched that much TV on a weekend in months!]

Upgrade hung at for about 40 minutes at "bogofilter" (didn't install
this before, error-message was about a missing DB-file) but I am not
sure if this is connected in any way.
