[Bug 1762084] Re: Touchpad right-click is not working

2018-09-17 Thread Perec Fix
tweaks does not fully fixes the problem. In 16.04 I've had (and I've used) both
functionalities: two-fingers tap and right bottom touchpad area click. Now if I
enable area click in tweaks, the two-fingers tap stops working or vise-versa.
This is regression bug introduced in 18.04. Please, fix this, that right-click
works for both cases.

An instructive post. People to really know who they want to reach and why or

[Bug 1514167] Re: Plasma screen flickering on lower resolutions after upgrade to Kubuntu 15.10

2016-01-29 Thread Perec Fix
It is also affects Ubuntu 15.10 Unity desktop on all resolutions. I've tried
4.4, 4.3 and 4.2 kernels. Same flickering.
The only workaround for me for now is to use 3.19 kernel. It works fine with
this.

Problem fixed without upgrading gthumb to the ppa level. The error was
likely fixed by a dependency library that was updated via usual Ubuntu

[Bug 872960] Re: In Oneiric, "Wobbly Windows" Compiz effect has a lag

2011-12-05 Thread FiX
Confirmed with latest nVidia driver (290.10-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1) from
ppa (ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates) running on nVidia Corporation GT215
[Quadro FX 1800M] (rev a2) (HP EliteBook 8540w).

Possibly some more data:
1) The problem arises with or without Wlobby Windows (turned on/off using ccsm).
2) Lag gets worse as time passes
3) Reloading the Windows Manager (compiz) fixes the problem for a few minutes,
then is shows-up again
4) Repeat (3) fixes the problem repetition.
5) Problem is the same with PPA & with original nvidia-current
6) Indirect rendering on/off does not change anything beyond the effect of
restarting compiz (3)

I have tried KDE/Plasma (switched to kubuntu-desktop), Unity-3D, GNOME
Shell and cairo-dock as login sessions with the exact same problem.

[Bug 872960] Re: In Oneiric, "Wobbly Windows" Compiz effect has a lag

2011-12-05 Thread FiX
{I am not a natiove speaker, so please forgive the low accuracy in the
subjective description below}

One more test that may provide information: After each compiz reload
(compiz --replace), each Window move is snappy _exactly once_. This
means that when you click-n-move a Window for the first time after a
compiz reload it moves nicely. But the second time (and later), it is
lagging behind the cursor.

Any window that was not yet moved has a first "smooth" motion. Any
window that was already moved once has a "jerky" or "lagging" motion.

2011-03-29 Thread FiX
At the time I was using lucid, modprobe was not fixing the problem
because the hardware was not recognized by the driver (pci id's not
listed). Once id's are listed, first modprobe causes a if to be created
by udev scripts. This i/f is used by subsequent reboots. I can no
longer test lucid on this hardware.

will monitor the inclusion of this fix before turning on backports
again. Do not consider me as blocked.

provide a link to the patch, if by some chance this is something that
can be patched manually into the CMake scripts (waiting for the updated

bring any updated cmake package. Is there any other work-around to get

Amending #16: as indicated by #10, disabling gpe01 indeed brings kapcid
down to a normal CPU usage, even if gpe01 is still reported as enabled.
So the work-around from korg works also in my case.

As expected, this -preempt kernel also has the exact same ACPI/HPET

[Bug 577702] Re: ACPI errors at boot (HP 8540w Elite Workstation)

2010-05-26 Thread FiX
Aside this regression (kacpid taking ~100% cpu), there is another change
in 2.6.34 that null-ifies a previous workaround: the xhci (USB 3.0
module) that does not support suspend/resume was renamed xhci_hcd in
2.6.34. Adapting accordingly the content of the files /etc/pm/config and
/etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module fixes the suspend/resume (but not the
kacpid taking 100% cpu)

# https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/522998
SUSPEND_MODULES="xhci xhci_hcd"

The above mentioned work-around to disable IRQ's on GPE01 does not work
(even run as plain root instead of sudoer).

# echo disable > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe01

# cat /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe01
   29441enabled

[Bug 577702] Re: ACPI errors at boot (HP 8540w Elite Workstation)

2010-05-09 Thread FiX
The root cause is a broken ACPI BIOS. I fixed both remaining problems by
settings "FAN always on while one AC power" in the BIOS (which is the
default value).

NOTE: This is the exact inverse settings compared to the value required
to make the "HP 8530w EliteBook Mobile Workstation" work flawlessly.

This behavior is observed using the following BIOS:

[Bug 489736] Re: Kernel upgrade does not update initrd.lz on a live usb

2010-05-02 Thread FiX
I have the same error message using install from scratch (official
Lucid, not one of the alpha or the beta) on an HP 8730w mobile
workstation (x86_64). I get the initial boot screen (select language &
boot options), then after a while, I get something like (sorry, probably
not the exact error message):

(initramfs) Unable to find a live filesystem image

I get this error message both booting from the CD-ROM or from the SD-
card reader. No way I can reinstall the system from scratch.

This is a regression from previous alpha/beta/rc: My system was
previously installed using an ISO image from those previews. I was
willing to re-install from scratch using the clean published version,
but this does not seem to work.

Anything else I can provide to fix this, please let me know. Finally,
please not that I am not sure this is exactly the same bug.. the message
is pretty short.

[Bug 559026] Re: Unrecognized Marvell Ethernet (trivial fix)

2010-04-28 Thread FiX
I confirm that this problem is fixed by latest upstream kernel installed
according to the procedure described above. Here is the dmesg content:

[2.156926] sky2: driver version 1.27
[2.157126] sky2 :43:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
[2.157217] sky2 :43:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[2.157466] sky2 :43:00.0: Yukon-2 Optima chip revision 1
[2.158468] alloc irq_desc for 27 on node -1
[2.158479] alloc kstat_irqs on node -1
[2.158606] sky2 :43:00.0: irq 27 for MSI/MSI-X
[2.167184] sky2 :43:00.0: eth0: addr d8:d3:85:0b:11:23

The driver properly works on my HP Mini 5102, which I am using to write
this message.

[Bug 539997] Re: Nvidia driver activated but not currently in use

2010-04-15 Thread FiX
confirm the issue (HP 8730w). Lucid beta2. This problem did not happen
in alpha1, x11 was broken on alpha2, it did not happen on beta1 & now
shows-up on beta2... Remove both drivers, then activate "current", then
reboot... to have it fixed. Seems very hard to get rid of the NOUVEAU
stuff.

[Bug 548846] Re: in netbook remix, emacs23 but not emacs22 sizes wrongly in initial full-screen opening

2010-04-12 Thread FiX
Also confirm this problem. This is not a regression wrt/ past Lucid UNR
versions: all of them are affected since the first alpha. Thanks for the
Alt+F10 work-around: the only one I found so far was to un-install it &
prefer emacs22, which looks ugly these days...

[Bug 559026] [NEW] Unrecognized Marvell Ethernet (trivial fix)

2010-04-09 Thread FiX
Public bug reported:

The following Ethernet controller is not recognized by Ubuntu Lucid
beta1, either at install or later.

43:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Device 4381 (rev 11)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3653
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10
Memory at 9010 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
I/O ports at 2000 [size=256]
Expansion ROM at 94a0 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 3
Capabilities: [50] Vital Product Data
Capabilities: [5c] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0
Enable-
Capabilities: [c0] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00
Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting
Capabilities: [130] Device Serial Number d8-d3-85-ff-ff-0b-11-23

This is a known bug that OpenSuSE 11.2 has already fixed, because this
fix was considered trivial by the SuSE kernel maintainers:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578708

There is a known issue on HP Mini type of hardware like the HP Mini 1000
and 210: an Ethernet cable needs to be plugged at installation for the
Ethernet adapter to be recognized (and the kernel acpi_os_name=Linux
needs to be explicitly passed as boot parameter to avoid kernel crash at
Ethernet disconnection in normal operation). This is not the present
issue: here neither the sky2 nor the skge drivers recognize the
hardware.

AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21.

[Bug 479031] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Crash in /usr/bin/X(FindGlyphRef+0x2c) [0x5277cc] on nvidia nvidia-glx-185, SMP quadcore

2010-03-15 Thread FiX
Also confirms this problem (at least the exact same message in the syslog).

narrowing down the problem.

Steps to duplicate:

[Bug 354220] Re: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally

2010-03-05 Thread FiX
I did not test with the latest alpha, because that would require
upgrading my personal productivity system to a non release version. That
being said, I no longer see these error messages. They likely were fixed
by some update. Here are my new versions:

virtualbox-3.13.1.4-57640_Ubuntu_karmic (upgraded since
pb)
pulseaudio1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4.1 (not upgraded since
pb)
linux-image-2.6.31-19-generic 2.6.31-19.56 (upgraded since pb)

Pb automagically disappeared. Either fixed in kernel/vbox or worked-
around by vbox team. You can close the defect as far as I am concerned.

[Bug 354220] Re: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally

2009-12-09 Thread FiX
Also facing this exact same issue, with vbox.

- Karmic/x86_64
- Dual-core Xeon 2.8 GHZ (in case it matters, for SMP locks...)
- virtualbox-3.1 (3.1.0-55467_Ubuntu_karmic)
- linux-image-2.6.31-16-generic (2.6.31-16.52)
- pulseaudio (1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4)

I get tons of the below:
[,,,]
Dec 9 11:35:41 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Dec 9 11:35:46 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: ratelimit.c: 78084 events suppressed
Dec 9 11:35:51 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: ratelimit.c: 156553 events suppressed

Dec 9 11:35:51 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Dec 9 11:35:51 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Dec 9 11:35:51 tonarra pulseaudio[2143]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
[...]

The pulseaudio process was taking 115% CPU (more than one core). Kill
-15 did not stop it. Kill -9 produced the following OOPS (not sure it is
related).
