[Bug 1906173] [NEW] Screen blank when waking from suspend, have to move mouse to make login screen appear
Public bug reported: This is basically the same symptom, but from many years ago: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1431128 To reproduce: 1) Suspend (I do so via the dropdown menu) 2) Turn off display. (Not sure if relevant) 3) Turn on display. (Not sure if relevant, problem occurs even if this step is after #4) 4) Wake from suspend (I do so by pressing a key on the keyboard OR the power button) 5) Screen either stays black or flickers for a second and then goes black 6) Press any key on the keyboard 7) Login screen appears (as if it was in screen-saver/lock mode before) I'm guessing the bug is not very reproducible because you would have noticed it already. However, I should note that (aside from a few days after I installed the OS) the problem happens 100% of the times I wake from sleep Some unique details about my setup: 1) The default 20.04 installation failed to a bug installing the packaged Nvidia drivers, but skipping that and doing it after installation worked in all respects that I can see 2) My computer is custom, not OEM. 3) I do have VMWare Workstation installed 4) I used to use 18.04 and 19.10, neither had the issue ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-51.56-generic 5.4.65 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-51-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/capabilities/gpu0' .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/capabilities/mig' .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 450.80.02 Wed Sep 23 01:13:39 UTC 2020 GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.9 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Nov 29 10:05:23 2020 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia, 450.80.02, 5.4.0-48-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia, 450.80.02, 5.4.0-51-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] [10de:1b06] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 1100308] Re: gnome-control-center segment error during selection of image
This issue is reproducible and seems to be related to the user number. I had a user number in the /etc/passwd set to 300 and something. Now changing that to 1000 and with appropriate sudo chown -R myusername /home/myusername and sudo chgrp -R myusername /home/myusername I no longer get the error: the username is shown in lightdm, the username is shown in the upper right corner, I see my self in the User account is system settings, and pressing the icon does not generate a crash, but selects the icon alright. Before that I tried minimum-uid=300 in /etc/lightdm/users.conf but I did not get that to work. There seems to be multiple issues (including a crash) related to a too low user number. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1100308 Title: gnome-control-center segment error during selection of image To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1100308/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 957449] [NEW] clockdiff fails if its pid is over 65535
Public bug reported: Clockdiff calls getpid() to get a unique id and stores it into an int named id. This id is then stored into a 16 bit field in packets it sends out, and when it receives replies it compares the received id with the int id to determine if the packet should be discarded or not. If getpid() returns a pid higher than 65535, all packets are discarded. [Bug 669076] Re: When my system tries to boot into the NEW install
I do not see a classification of solved or I would have changed it to that. I still consider what I went through, a bug in the program, and I will try to explain why. Final determination: The install package does not correctly setup the hard drive, even when making the selection to use the entire drive. I cannot begin to tell you how many attempts at installing I went through; but tracing the history of this bug report will give an indication of how long it has taken me. If I had recorded yesterdays event I could at least accurately describe in the documentation to new users, which I am one, how to manually go through the steps of 'prepping' the hard drive. The clue was in the boot process when it continually displayed Please append a correct 'root=' option and made comment to there not being a legit file system. So yesterday, the big eve, I had Ubuntu check my drive for errors, it took the entire day. I then formatted the drive and chose a '/' as the mount point. I have no idea if that is the correct choice, there is no help provided in that area as to what to chose and the difference in the choices. Long story short, it is installed and I am recording these comments from within Ubuntu. So it was the hard drive setup that caused all my problems. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669076 Title: When my system tries to boot into the NEW install -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 669076] Re: When my system tries to boot into the NEW install
This was changed from 'Incomplete' to 'New' since all the requested information has now been supplied. There are 2 photos attached that show the start of the list of bugs (I think it is the same bug repeating) and another that shows the end of the list just before the screen goes into total darkness. Please forgive the emails that include the one being replied to. I am new to this and will try to adhere to some site formats. [Bug 669076] [NEW] When my system tries to boot into the NEW install
Public bug reported: During the boot load process, I see repeatedly BUG : Bad Page map in process khelper with pte: #'s pmd : hex code following it. The system then hangs. The system I am trying to install on a bare drive is 10.10, I tried the 32 bit and the AMD 64 bit versions, neither works. Re: [Bug 669076] Re: When my system tries to boot into the NEW install
Wow, couldn't believe someone already replied to me. Thanks. First off, do they keep a list of submissions via email addresses? I submitted the onset of this with the msg not sure its a bug about a day ago. That was done while running from the cd and it grabbed my system info with the submittal.(doesn't seem to be a word) I am trying to load ubuntu on this system so I can FLEE the windows environment, not having much luck so I end up having to reinsert my windows drive back into its slot to continue. I will open this email from the running of ubuntu from the cd and see if I can get my system info again. I ran apport-collect 669076 while booted into the cd, I mounted the hard drive that the install is on in hopes of getting someone with remote access to maybe look at the install and see if there is something obvious that non-users know nothing about. Can you add details here of what machine exactly you are using (model, amount of memory etc). If you can get a screenshot of the bug messages (e.g. with a digital camera) you could also attach that. If you can boot the same machine into 10.04 then please run apport-collect 669076 which should add a load of information about your machine to this bug.
