[Bug 254934] Re: screen becomes twisted when opening firefox 3 browser after using compiz fusion

2009-03-31 Thread Frederik Seidelin
On opening Thunderbird today, I realised that it affects this program as
well. Can it have something to do with... XUL maybe?

[Bug 254934] Re: screen becomes twisted when opening firefox 3 browser after using compiz fusion

2009-03-27 Thread Frederik Seidelin
It also happens in 8.10 on my Eee 1000, which has an Intel GMA950 as
opposed to the 701's GMA900. I hadn't realised that compiz caused it,
but Jngoi is right; I just tried opening Firefox with and without compiz
enabled several times. It happened zero times with compiz disabled, and
all the times it was enabled. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate
the problem.

It doesn't seem to do any harm (noticeably low performance unusual even
for netbooks and the like), but it just looks weird, and having had a
computer that did it when it was about to freeze completely, I find it
rather disconcerting. ;-)

[Bug 281683] Re: Incorrect partition creation when on an SSD (EXT3 instead of EXT2)

2009-03-27 Thread Frederik Seidelin
I'm not sure that it would do anything but confuse the user, Dimitrios.
You and I obviously know whether we have an SSD, but I don't think most
people are aware of anything about their hard drive but the storage
space -- I mean, 5400-RPM hard drives continue to exist and are even
sold with Intel Core processors! If the user, who could also be one
who'd scarcely even heard of netbooks, further reducing the likelihood
that they have a clue about the difference between magnetic and flash-
based hard drives, had to answer questions like that, they might stall
and think Ubuntu is too technical. Especially if they were moving from
Windows which just works...

I don't have any better suggestions, though.
