Public bug reported: Installation for a local deb file shows a notification message that causes a lot of confusion whether the package has been successfully installed or not. [Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
@zeorin Thanks for that info. I had to do the following extra. Since I use LUKS encrypted disk and uefi. 1) Open the encrypted disk in File explorer 2) Mount the lvm partition on /mnt mount /dev/ubuntu-vg/root /mnt Mount boot mount /dev/nvme0n1p2 /mnt/boot Mount efi mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/boot/efi Standard chroot mounts mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys mount --bind /run /mnt/run <-- This was not listed. Then chroot into /mnt After adding the new apt sources and pinning the grub version and 'apt update && apt upgrade' I had to manually install 'grub2-common'. It did not install by default with 'apt upgrade'. After this was done. I ran update-grub and grub-install. With efi mounted this worked and I could reboot with old working grub. Re: [Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
I did an upgrade to day from 19.04 -> 19.10 -> 20.04 and now the system still hangs. Tried all bios settings suggested in this thread. I'll try the grub fix, from David Wilson, but disco packages is not available anymore. I would say that this bug should have status updated. [Bug 1758512] Re: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in.
Reproducible on 18.04.3 LTS on a t460s Thinkpad. (Yes, enable function- lock, or remember to press Fn + ctrl + alt + f3) Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual console showing the boot log. Alas there is no way to switch back to any other virtual console!! Reboot here is the only option. Do a normal login and press CTRL-ALT-F1. Now it switches to a virtual console with a login prompt. Nice. Do not press ALT-F1 or you will end up in the boot log again...reboot. Press ALT-F2 to get back to the graphical console. Then I removed the comments for the two lines: NAutoVTs=6 ReserveVT=6 in the file /etc/systemd/logind.conf and rebooted. Then it started to work better. F1 seems to be the gdm graphical login prompt. F2 has the graphical desktop. F3 is the first virtual console terminal. I do not know where to boot log went... However wait after pressing the CTRL-ALT-Fx and ALT-Fx keys when switching consoles. If I switch between the consoles too fast, them the X-process sometimes crashes and you get the login screen again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758512 Title: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in. [Bug 1853369] [NEW] [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
Public bug reported: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk" So after completing the upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10, my computer got stuck on the solid purple Grub screen upon reboot. After getting into the grub menu on next boot and booting from advanced options, I see that it gets to "loading initial ramdisk" and then just hangs forever. I am able to boot without issues on the old kernel (5.0.0-32-generic), but not the one that got installed with the upgrade (5.3.0-18-generic). Things I've tried based on what worked for other people who got this problem (though I haven't found anyone who has it specifically with 19.10): acpi=off dis_ucode_ldr disabling secure boot recovery mode making sure all packages are up to date I'm kind of at a loss of what to do, other than just keep using the old kernel. [Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read
Workaround to get some terminal output: Disable automatic downloads of updated files. The key here is that you need to show details on progress during the download phase as the bug affects the download progress window too, otherwise you'll get the "one- liner". This bug show itself when: displaying the download progress area displaying the terminal output showing the changes to a configuration file when doing a Dist upgrade -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690541 Title: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptdaemon/+bug/1690541/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read
Ahh, yes, the resize output area bug, I remember seeing this some months (a year?) ago. Can't just remember where. Pity you can't browse to see which bugs you have marked as affect you too. The bug show itself when the program tries to add more visual space vertically. [Bug 1738517] Re: Update-manager does not expand details on progress on 17.10 & 18.04
Ah yes, that resize display area bug. The reason why you get just one line of terminal output. Here, this bug has been in effect for several releases now. (Ubuntu with Gnome Flashback) Workaround to get some terminal output: Disable automatic downloads of updated files. The key here is that you need to show details on progress during the download phase, otherwise you'll get the "one-liner". When having terminal output, try resize the window. It will resize down but terminal output will never resize up, adding more lines. Resizing sideways still works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1738517 Title: Update-manager does not expand details on progress on 17.10 & 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1738517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1732474] Re: Closing lid with external monitor plugged in sends system to sleep
I have this exact same issue. If I turn off suspend on lid close in the Gnome Tweak Tool I have sometimes been able to close the lid without issues (as in, the laptop monitor turns off and the external one blinks black for a second, cursor still visible). Since a couple of days back, that stopped working as well (it worked for at least a few weeks before then). If I close my lid now, the laptop locks and my external monitor turns off. The only way to get out of the state is to open the lid, upon which I am presented by the login screen. I am using my onboard Intel graphics (combined with bumblebee and the dedicated Nvidia card, but clearly Intel is the active one when this happens). [Bug 1687191] [NEW] psmouse broken for thinkpad touchpad on carbon x1 5th gen
Public bug reported: On my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with Swedish keyboard, the trackpoint and touchpad is defunct when running 16.04 LTS and 17.04 "out of the box". You're essentially required to attach an external USB connected mouse to complete (UI based) installation. Workaround: I can get the trackpoint (red dot) and touchpad to work with IMPS protocol. When loading the `psmouse` Linux kernel module, passing arguments `protocol=imps`, clicks and moving the mouse around works. Using the middle button for scrolling works - both by moving the trackpoint, and by using the touchpad. However, this disables two-finger scrolling using the touchpad. I also own a X1 Carbon 3rd Gen which works just fine. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: zesty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-04-26 (3 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) MachineType: LENOVO 20HRCTO1WW Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (not installed) ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.10.0-20-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=591d9b02-d2fc-4ad4-8a2e-cc41bd853c0a ro i8042.reset i8042.nomux psmouse.proto=imps quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-20.22-generic 4.10.8 Tags: zesty ubuntu Uname: Linux 4.10.0-20-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 03/10/2017 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N1MET31W (1.16 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20HRCTO1WW dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN1MET31W(1.16):bd03/10/2017:svnLENOVO:pn20HRCTO1WW:pvrThinkPadX1Carbon5th:rvnLENOVO:rn20HRCTO1WW:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.name: 20HRCTO1WW dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.13.1+17.04.20170109-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.76-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 17.0.3-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 17.0.3-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.3-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.9.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20170309-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.14-0ubuntu1 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected ubuntu zesty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1687191 Title: psmouse broken for thinkpad touchpad on carbon x1 5th gen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/1687191/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1567697] Re: libcurl is missing http2 support
AFAICT http2 support is currently intentionally dropped from curl because the dependency nghttp2-dev is not in the 'main' archive, but in the community supported 'universe' archive. Quoting the curl package changelog: curl (7.52.1-4ubuntu1) zesty; urgency=low * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes: - Drop dependencies not in main: + Build-Depends: Drop libssh2-1-dev, and libnghttp2-dev. + Drop libssh2-1-dev from binary package Depends. + debian/control: drop --with-nghttp2 -- Gianfranco Costamagna Sun, 09 Apr 2017 13:07:51 +0200 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/curl/+changelog#detail_curl_7.52.1-4ubuntu1 So, to resolve this issue it would seem that Canonical first must be convinced to take on official support for the nghttp2 package. Not sure how we're supposed to do that? Cheering from the sideline has obviously not worked very well for this issue so far. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1567697 Title: libcurl is missing http2 support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/curl/+bug/1567697/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
