[Bug 51452] Re: missing /var/run in root partition fails many services
I too am experiencing this bug. I only noticed it because loopback would not come up at boot due to unable to access /var/run/network/ifstate thus not allowing me to log in through GDM. I had to move /etc/rcS.d/S08loopback to /etc/rcS.d/S39 loopback as quick fix. Secondly I am getting mounting errors for /var itself due to /var/run and likely /var/lock (have to reboot inorder to double check). I tried moving the order of a few scripts in /etc/rcS.d but it didn't help. I would not like to have to do this manually especially if an updated package(s) is just going to set the order back to default. -- missing /var/run in root partition fails many services https://launchpad.net/bugs/51452 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Suspend-to-mem fails to resume when suspend while on battery then resumed with AC plugged in on a Lenovo T61 (Intel video) w/ Ubuntu 7.10 x86_64 2.6.22.14.52 How to reproduce: 1) First, run the laptop on battery power and login 2) do something 3) suspend to memory 4) now, plug in the ac adapter while the computer is still suspended 5) now, wake up the computer right after plugging in --- it freezes, needs a hard reboot Another situation: 1) run the computer while plugged in, but the battery is low 2) do something 3) suspend to memory 4) wait a while until the battery is charged 5) wake the computer up... it freezes, needs a hard reboot. Suspend-to-mem resumes ok if on AC at suspend and resume. [Bug 140554] Re: X crashes gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
As for me, my nvidia geforce 6200 A-LE does not install properly in ubuntu 7.10 using nvidia version 100.14.19. So decided to revert back to ubuntu 7.04, updated everything in ubuntu first, then installed the nvidia driver and it installs properly but it was still crashing randomly. Then nvidia came with a new release of the nvidia driver (version 169.07), installed it, but X is still crashing randomly (last time it crashed, was not doing anything on firefox, was downloading in the background, listening to music and chatting, then it gave me the login screen again with music still playing though, but as soon as you relogin, playback stopped). Today, just before the X session crashed again, I got the following message (don't know if this is at all related to this discussion here, but I will type it in anyway): Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory.Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem. [Bug 58247] Re: ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend
to lessen confusion, by second suspend i mean suspending after resuming from a previous suspend and by no listed network interface in ifconfig or iwconfig it only applies to the wifi card. i can still see/use the wired network interface. forgot to mention i have to reboot after the second suspend in order to get the wireless network interface back. -- ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/58247 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

-- missing /var/run in root partition fails many services https://launchpad.net/bugs/51452 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

to lessen confusion, by second suspend i mean suspending after resuming from a previous suspend and by no listed network interface in ifconfig or iwconfig it only applies to the wifi card. i can still see/use the wired network interface. forgot to mention i have to reboot after the second suspend in order to get the wireless network interface back. -- ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/58247 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 58247] ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend
Public bug reported: i'm using dapper but with edgy's 2.6.17-6 kernel (compiled from source deb package in order to keep any Ubuntu patches and using gcc 4.0) as I have to use acpi=off with dapper's stock kernel, so no suspend in stock dapper. everything works great with the exception of suspend annoyances as always =) when resuming from the first suspend, network manager is able connect to the wireless AP without problems. resuming after the second suspend, there is no listed network interface in ifconfig or iwconfig. the card still exists in lspci. i've tried stopping ipw3945d-`uname -r`, unloading the module then reloading the module (noticed that ipw3945d starts on its own after the module is loaded) with the same results. don't really think its a kernel issue but may be wrong. any help is appreciated. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/58247 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 51452] Re: missing /var/run in root partition fails many services
Nevermind about my simple fix of moving the order in /etc/rcS.d loopback still doesnt come up most of the time. I have to switch to a terminal, login, bring up loopback, restart gdm then switch to gdm. loopback is supposed to come up on it's on but the tmpfs for /var/run and /var/lock are not letting it. I have the following in /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback -- missing /var/run in root partition fails many services https://launchpad.net/bugs/51452 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52148] Can't CTRL+ALT+F1 to switch terminals
Public bug reported: Well technically I can switch terminals using CTRL+ALT+F1 but nothing is displayed. I can type out my login then type reboot (enter) which the system then reboots after a few seconds of HDD activity. During the reboot no stopping of services is displayed just a blank screen until it reboots. I've found using a framebuffer (adding vga=0x317 to grub) would let me switch terminal and have actual text displayed. This however is not a fix. This is happening under 2.6.15-25-amd64-generic kernel, likely after I install nvidia-glx as it was working before I had rendering. [Bug 58247] Re: ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend
performed a clean install of knot2 (daily 20060914) and got hiberante working with the following added to /etc/acpi/suspend.d/70-modules- unload.sh killall ipw3945d-`uname -r` rm /var/run/ipw3945d*pid and adding ipw3945 to the module list in /etc/default/acpi-support along with removing the splash screen in grub. however I still have issues after a second resume from suspend to disk as the ipw3945 wireless card does not appear in ifconfig or iwconfig even though it's listed in lspci and module/daemon appear to start without problems (nothing in dmesg even with debug=1 when modprobing ipw3945 manunally). -- ipw3945 not coming up after second suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/58247 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 140554] Re: X crashes gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
5I can point out that it all started when Ubuntu decided to push the current version of firefox, before firefox version 2.0.0.11, i did not have this problem at all. It could also be related to something else but I don't know. Did somebody test with the previous version of firefox (but applying all the rest of the Ubuntu 7.04 updates, for example)? As for me, stopping gdm and running startx gives the same issues, it crashes as well but gives me the command line interface to retype startx again...
