[Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.4.1

2008-11-25 Thread GSMD
Guys, I don't see what the problem is.
Just provide the basic Java version
(http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-developers/ganymedesr1)
and make sure there won't be permission problem when installing plugins via
eclipse plugin manager itself. This is it. You don't need to provide -cdt, -jee
and myriads of other versions at all.

[Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.3

2008-03-07 Thread GSMD
Cmon, they don't give a $heet bout java developers which is inherited from the
fact that Debian guys have exactly the same attitude. Extremely dumb in the
first case (given the fact that Ubuntu is desktop-oriented) and just fine in
the second (as Debian is more server-side).
Besides Eclipse, how long would it take for Tomcat 6 to get into repos? It went
stable almost a year ago.

[Bug 144841] interface names get shifted with mac address change

2007-09-25 Thread GSMD
Public bug reported:

I'm running the latest Gutsy pre-release under vmware server and here are the
oddities:
---
$ dmesg | grep eth
[ 285.754119] eth0: registered as PCnet/PCI II 79C970A
[ 285.754676] eth1: registered as PCnet/PCI II 79C970A
[ 425.301508] eth5: link up
[ 428.129006] eth6: link up
---
As you can see, eth0 eth1 are being detected, yet it's only possible to bring
up the corresponding interfaces named eth5 eth6 that are configured like
---
$ cat /etc//network/interfaces
...
auto eth5
iface eth5 inet dhcp
...
---
For some reason interface names tend to shift time to time after reboot
(previously these were eth3 eth4 respectively). I presume this depends on
vmware changing NIC MAC addresses.
I mark this issue as a security vulnerability as 'drifting' interfaces could
impose a security threat combined with iptables.

Any details needed - i'm right here to provide any info required.

[Bug 112611] Re: ipt_connmark is broken

2007-09-21 Thread GSMD
Yeah, the attitude of Ubuntu maintainers plain sucks for this matter.
Having connmark enabled by default can't brake anything. I don't mind
recompiling the kernel by hand, but this would break automatic kernel security
updates and add more headache. Just don't get it.

[Bug 74232] Re: make panels switch places

2007-07-10 Thread GSMD
I'll explain it a bit.
We've got 2 panels under Ubuntu one of which contains main menu button, clock,
etc. and the secont one has a list of programs launched. Theay are located at
the opposite sides of the screen.
Now, in the properties of the lower bar I select that it should be located at
the top. It moves there and is placed below the first bar which is correct from
the usability point of view (the shortest way to switch app).
Yet after reboot panels switch places which is wrong.
I believe the latter should be fixed.

[Bug 83231] Re: linux software RAID not working after herd 3 installation..

2007-05-21 Thread GSMD
Even more on this. I've i've got Feisty on 2 of my servers (IDE and SCSI drives
in RAID1), these are the servers, so they aren't rebooted frequently. What I
found was that the machine with SCSI drives would eventually fall to busybox
upon reboot and I'd have to reboot it manually to get working. Today I rebooted
the machine with IDE drives and it seems like the same thing happened (I didn't
manage to physically get to the server yet).
To sum this up, the bug is more nasty than it seems and udevsettle --timeout
10 doesn't help sort it out.

Any ideas?

[Bug 112629] julian anastasov patches

2007-05-05 Thread GSMD
Public bug reported:

3.2 About the patches
-

Some of us are curious and wish to know what the Julian's patches
actually do. Here is a summary:

- With the patches enabled, we can use proto static for all
routes. Doing so, the route for a link will survive even if that
device stops working. This is essential, specially if the reason for
using two lines is redundancy: If a line fails, all attributes of
the device remain, beside the fact that it can't be used until it
comes up again. We can continue pinging the gateway for to detect
the moment the link comes up again. Equal cost multipath exists also
without these patches, but wouldn't work in such a situation.

- If the device continues existing even if it doesn't work, the kernel
needs a way to decide whether this is a route might be chosen,
specially if several are available. This is called the ``dead
gateway detection''; it works for any kind of unicast routes
(multipath/unipath, input/output) and provided by these patches.

- A multipath route consists of several routes with the same source
and destination, but a different path, which is specified by the
device and the gateway. It is because of the patches that the kernel
knows how to distinguish the route not only by source and
destination, but also by device and gateway. Also, at least when
each line has a different device, the kernel's reverse path checking
  (rp_filter) will work correctly.

- The NAT system has no idea how to deal with alternative routes, this
is something the routing system has to do. And one of the additions
of these patches is make the routing system prepare the route of an
individual packet for the nat system, such that it looks as if it
  where the only possible route.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

it would be much better if two of the gnome panels would detect whether
they are put _together_ at the top or at the bottom and switch places.
the point is that, when put together, the panel with launched programs
list should be closer to userspace while the one with menu all of
those various icons should be on the side that ajoins the corner of the
screen. so, while both panels are on the top side, their order should be

[Bug 72067] Why not provide write capability?

2006-11-16 Thread GSMD
Public bug reported:

For now, libhid can be used only to read data from a device (a keyboard or a
barcode scanner for example). But there are some devices that are detected as
HID but have a capability to be written into (e.g. a portable data collector
that we are currently working with). Under Windows HID devices can readwrite.
So, we had to modify source code for this feature to work. I see a point in
allowing read\write by default. Any questions - gsmdib %at% gmail.com.

Public bug reported:

The problem occured while installing edgy in Server mode and manually
partitioning RAID1. I've found the same bug reported for Debian
(http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg76770.html).

I've managed to move further by rebooting the server after partitioning
was done.
