[Bug 1330935] [NEW] Nautilus error when unmounting locations
Public bug reported: I have opened remote server location with Nautilus and the opening and handling worked all fine. Then I have unmounted the location by clicking the "unmount" sign next to the location on the left tree panel. The unmount worked fine, as expected, however when I moved the mouse it was moving a folder that was under the mouse right after the unmount like I would have grabbed that folder. I did not grab the folder but by clicking on the unmount and after the unmount got executed and the location disappeared from the tree view and mouse grab was executed and even though I was not holding down any of the mouse buttons it looked like I was grabbing one of the folders. By hitting ESC I have cancelled the action and all went back to normal. It can be reproduced every time on my system. [Bug 1330487] [NEW] Faulty keyboard layout
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to 14.04 I am experiencing problem with one of my keyboard layouts. I have setup Danish (which is my actual keyboard layout) and Hungarian (which I am using due to special characters not on my keyboard). I am using this exact same setup since 12.04 or so and it has always been working just fine. Recently one of the special characters which is "í" can not be located on the keyboard. When I check the layout and the input setting shows me a visual of the keyboard layout, it is there. It is at the bottom left of the keyboard where my "<" is when on Danish keyboard. However when on Hungarian keyboard, that key is actually dead and does not do anything. Not sure if I have to report this under "unity-control-center" or somewhere else. It can be reproduced every single time when I switch to Hungarian keyboard. The other special characters "óéá", etc. show up as expected and there is only problem with this one. I am using a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with Ubuntu 14.04, all system us updated and no special settings other than usual. Re: [Bug 1156358] Re: Chromium very slow
Hi, Sorry to say but this has been a long-long time ago. Since I use Ubuntu 14.04 multiple times reinstalled or upgraded the system. This trouble doesn't exist in my current system and I have no means to check out on a configuration described in the bug. Can't help with that. Re: [Bug 1177706] Re: empathy does not work
Hi Walter, Thanks for your mail. Understand that you have to prioritize. Frankly I have totally forgot about this particular bug. As far as I can tell it was handled in the next versions and in the next versions of Ubuntu. Not using that much Thunderbird these days, as I am using multiple devices including Tablets and Phones and it seemed easier to use webmail on the laptop with those, no need to have local hard drive space and so on. I think we can safely assume that the bug is fixed. Re: [Bug 1304888] Re: Cannot generate new PGP key
Hi Seth, I have tried that and this is what I got: "Not enough random bytes available. Please do some other work to give the OS a chance to collect more entropy! (Need 228 more bytes)" I got this a number of times with different number of bytes still needed. Not sure what is the point of displaying it but anyhow. That is not a bug I guess. However then came up the actual bug: "gpg: no writable public keyring found: eof Key generation failed: eof" This is the message I get and no key is generated. I suppose this is the same bug. Please let me know if there is any other data needed. [Bug 540692] Re: "unmount partitions that are in use?" dialog is confusing
I had this at my last install. Seems it comes up either when external hard drive or USB disk attached and mounted or (and this is when it becomes important per what I see) when you - like I did - before installing check out what is on the hard drive of the computer and thus mount and open one or more partition there. It happened to me with the latest 13.04 installer from Live CD mode. Should be changed as suggested above. When it happens again I will do. I guess the screenshot will have to be done by a camera as I can't do with the system in a hanged shutdown mode. [Bug 1178208] [NEW] Shutdown, restart and boot up process hangs
Public bug reported: I have upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit from 12.10. Before the system was very stable and no bugs really. Now, I have run into a strange problem a couple of times. Sometimes when I tried to shut down the system it would start the shut down process, closes all apps, logs off, goes into the shut down screen with the UBUNTU sign and the "dots" moving and then hangs right there. No disk activity and the shutdown process did not go further. I tried to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then there was some activity with it going to text mode and some messages of processes closing, but then hang again. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del again gave the same message but hang again. I had to hard shut off the system with the power button pressed for 5 sec. This happened about 4 times. 1 time when I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del as described above, the system actually went into a reboot and then when started up I could properly shut down from the login screen. Another instance that might be related is one time when I turned on my laptop the startup process seemed hanging. It was going normal then suddenly went to text mode and hung there. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+Alt+F7 and I suddenly got the login screen and I could log in and all was well. Seemingly it hung before giving me the graphical login screen but the above way I managed to get to it anyhow and it worked. These have only happened since upgraded to UBUNTU 13.04. I am running it on a Dell Inspiron 17R, with 4 GB RAM and only having on OS, the UBUNTU installed. I am willing to help on the handling of it with testing or further reports. Can not reproduce the bug as it happened a few times randomly and might or might not happen in the future. [Bug 1177706] [NEW] empathy does not work
Public bug reported: I have not much used Empathy in the past but now that I have upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 I decided to give it a try. I am running 64 bit version of Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 17R with 4GB RAM. Well, in short empathy does not work. I have FB, Google talk and Yahoo set up. When I start up Empathy it starts very slow. Many times going unresponsive. When a message comes in, empathy does not always catch it and I only see it on FB chat on the browser. Sometimes the message appears in the popup bubble from empathy, but no window open and I need to open empathy, scroll down to the name of the person to be able to response. Not really functional. [Bug 1177530] [NEW] Does not recognize sound card
Public bug reported: Do not know if I am filing it under the correct package. Since upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 I have problem with sound. The system does not anymore recognizes that there is an HDMI device plugged in and thus I can not put the sound over the HDMI cable. More than that: from time to time the system does not recognize the internal sound card and says there is only a "Dummy" device and thus I get no sound at all. It is kind of random and normally when I restart again then the internal sound card and sound devices are recognized. I have a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with 4 Gb RAM and I am running the 64 bit version of Ubuntu. I have upgraded from 12.10 where the sound worked perfectly. [Bug 1086806] [NEW] Rhythmbox encoder missing plugin
Public bug reported: I am on Ubuntu 12.10, upgraded from 12.04. Dell Inspirion 17R with 2GB RAM. Rhythmbox works just fine or so I thought until today. I was attempting to rip a CD and put it in Ogg Vorbis format. When I clicked on EXTRACT, I got a dialog window telling me that "Additional software is required to encode media in your preferred format: Vorbis encoder" When I click on "Install" to get the plugin, it searches for it and says "Python (v2.7) requires to install plugins to create media files of the following type: Vorbis encoder" then says "Required plugin could not be found" Same thing with MP3 except there finds a plugin but that is only for I386 and not for x64 so I can not isntall either. I can actually not encode any music in any format. I can play any music in any format (tried Ogg and MP3) and that works just fine without a problem. Can not rip CDs at the moment as the encoding does not work as above. It is probably since upgrade from 12.04 as on 12.04 it was working. I have not used this for some time and just tried to do it today with the above fail. It is reproducible every time for me. Tried manually installing packages to handle that without success. [Bug 1072631] [NEW] Brasero crashes silently
Public bug reported: It is a newly upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 on a Dell Inspiron 17R with 4GB ram. I have right clicked on an ISO file (actually on the Ubuntu install CD image) and had Brasero fired up in an attempt to burn it on a CD. An empty CD was in the drive. When started Brasero gave a message that there is not enough space on the CD to burn. So I clicked on cancel and seemingly Brasero closed. Right after I have tried with another image but this time Brasero did not start. Tried to start it from the dash menu and did not start there either without any sign or message or anything. Then checked with "System Monitor" and found out that Brasero was still running - but without a UI. When I forced it closed then I could start Brasero fine again. Repeated the process and the same happened. Right now I am on the stage when it is running in the background and no UI and I am filing a bug report on it. Tell me if more data needed. Re: [Bug 1054557] Re: Chromium 20.0.1132.47 keeps crashing silently
For me it happens all the time. When closing a tab. When opening a new tab. When copy+pasting stuff onto another tab or from another app to a window. It happens with 2 open tab and with 10 open tab. Sometimes it is stable for some days, and sometimes it crashes twice a minute or right after reopening again. Almost sounds as stable as Windows :P Does anyone know if this bug is being fixed within the Ubuntu groups or Google have to come up with the fix? I have reported it in Chrome too directly to Google. It seems to be going on now for 2 weeks or more and no bug fix coming out. Is there anyone listening to the reports? Wonder... While the document opens fine and one can work with it the following is happening: One can not go to the document opened with Alt+Tab as it is not shown on the list and can not be jumped on it unless one has just jumped off of it and then can go straight back. The document either appears as an empty space in the Unity panel on the left or appears as a Spreadsheet icon and an empty space on it. In the first case one can not click on it and get to the document. I am attaching a screenshot of this. This happens pretty much all the time. I have attempted to report this as a bug on the Libreoffice bog report too, could not see if it went through on the site - my internet was slow and while I clicked on send report and it did something the page did not change. Anyhow, it seems more like a Unity problem since the Libreoffice stuff actually does work just fine. I am running a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.1, it was the same on 12.04 too. It is a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with 4 GB RAM. [Bug 1056211] [NEW] Cheese crashes when USB mouse is plugged in
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Inspirion 17R laptop with integrated webcam. I have started up Cheese and it works very good, taking photos and all. However when I unplug my USB mouse and the moment I plug it back again Cheese freezes for a few sec and then crashes. Additionally, apport catches the crash and ask me if I want to report it. When I click yes then a window comes up asking me to close cheese if running as it will now start up in debugging mode and I should then try to reproduce the bug. However it does not start up after that nor the bug report proceeds so I manually started ubuntu-bug to report this. I can reproduce it any time. Seems like happening always when I plug the USB mouse in. [Bug 1055533] [NEW] Chromium repeatedly crashes
Public bug reported: About a week ago got an update for the Chromium package. I did that update (and all updates before and since for the system) and since then Chromium became quite unstable. It has crashed numerous times. Seems randomly. Sometimes with 1 sometimes with 2 or more page open. Sometimes it has crashed then I reopened and crashed again. Then it was stable now for some days but today again crashed. I got a crash window opening but it somehow fails to generate an actual crash report so I am doing here manually. Right now Chromium works and I am typing this in Chromium. I am using UBUNTU 12.04, all updates are done, it is a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with 4GB RAM, single boot environment. Tell me if more data is needed. Can not reproduce it when I want but happens quite often. [Bug 886585] [NEW] unity program "menu" is not functioning
Public bug reported: ubuntu 11.10 i am using unity 3D and normally it does work great however... when logging into the system, it starts quite slow. when it comes up there is a lot of disk work going on still, while i can use almost any application and any part of the system - except unity. if i wait a few minutes then all goes fine and unity works just fine. if i do not wait and try to use unity then what happens is unity can not find any programs, can not start any programs. it can perform search in files and folders and can show recently used files and stuff, but the programs part does not even show up and if i type a name of a program (such as "skype" or any other for that matter) then unity simple can not find it. the only way for me to start programs that are not on the side bar is via a terminal. i can start e-mail or chat from the top menus and can start browser and such from the side menu as they are kept there but no other program is findable. this practically happens every time i start my ubuntu. as i said, if i wait longer then unity works - like it has to load in something or what, not sure. if i restart my system and wait then it works. right now, as i report this bug, it does not work. i had to start unity from the terminal. i have 2gb ram, and running ubuntu on acer aspire 7520 G. tell me if more data is needed. okay, so i have restarted to see how it goes and it was catastrophic, well almost. it could not handle my NVIDIA card properly. also the headers were missing dependencies and thus had to be removed. now i switched back to the original kernel. [Bug 874117] [NEW] evolution migration problem after upgrade to ubuntu 11.10
Public bug reported: i have just upgraded to ubuntu 11.10. after restart and loging in i have opened evolution to check my mail. it said on start that it needs to upgrade to the new version of mailbox (or something similar). i clicked on migrate. it said also that it will keep the old folders that i can delete if i see the migration was done right. after evolution open, it downloads mail properly. then i see there are weird folders marked with # and _sdb at the end of some. i assume those are my old folders. when i go in them there are subfolders and thus mail missing. since i have done a backup of evolution prior to upgrade i did not care much figured i will just add back my missing mail. i wanted to delete these weird folders but an error message would come that these are not a maildir directory and showing it's path. of course these are not this is why i wanted to delete them. it does not let me delete. then when i answered a mail it gave an error message the first time, something to do with wrong folder format and storing to the local folder, or similar. the next time i answered a mail it did not do that. please let me know what i should do with this or if you need more data or screenshots. Re: [Bug 837988] Re: Libbreoffice rendering error
hi, sorry for the late answer. it took some time to reproduce this bug. it does not always happen and still did not figure out when it does and when it does not do like i described. i managed to reproduce it in libreoffice writer, with numbered entries. sorry for the bit lengthy video 1:34 or something. i had to fiddle around a bit. the thing happens at the end. at around 1:20 and there you see the numbering and lines with it not rendered properly, one number just go missing till i hit enter again. let me know if this is good enough. best, Gabor On Sun, 2011-09-11 at 15:00 +, Christopher M. [Bug 837988] [NEW] Libbreoffice rendering error
Public bug reported: It has happened several times that while I am typing in Libreoffice writer and I hit ENTER the cursor jumps in the next line and the screen scrolls, however there is no proper rendering of the document and thus half of the previous page is visible in the next page. While i scroll the page with the mouse it fixes itself and the proper rendering appears. It is happening also when numbering entries are being used and by hitting ENTER the cursor jumps to the next line and makes the next numbered entry by all appearances except the number itself does not appear in the front of the line till I scroll the page. This pretty much happens all the time. I have similar problem in Calc. Same rendering issues. When I write in a cell and hit enter that would move the page as the next cell where the cursor goes is out of the screen, the screen moves but the rendering remains the same as in the previous screen kind of not showing up what is in the new cells that have appeared now. It is also fixed when scrolled with mouse up or down. Then correct rendering appears. I am using UBUNTU 11.04, with all updates in place as far as I know. I have had the same problem when upgrading from previous Ubuntu version and now using a fresh install and having the same issue. I have a ACER Aspire, 7520G laptop with NVIDIA graphics card, 4 GB RAM. The bug can be reproduced every time here, pretty much. Sometimes this does not appear and I actually could not find out what was the difference those times. [Bug 526914] [NEW] package openoffice.org-emailmerge 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I was having a problem with OpenOffice pretty much since I have Installed UBUNTU 9.10. The bug was with the quickstart, as it kept crashing and once crashed OO writer too. Now during security update while running the update manager it came up with a message that I need to close OO as otherwise it can not update. However OO was not open, nor the quickstarter. I have also checked in the system info/processes if anything is running from OO that I am not aware of but there was nothing. I clicked forward in the update process and then it alerted me later on that the emailmerge could not be updated. And voila: this is where we stand.
