[Bug 43484] Re: poor disk performance during heavy io
Confirming. Bruce, thanks for the information. The link you supplied earlier (attached again below) indicates that this issue is well known upstream (Linus T. no less). http://kerneltrap.org/node/14148 + Note to Kernel Team: 1/ I can find no upsteam bug or enhancement request with regards to this matter. 2/ This does seem to be an issue of some importance inconvenience with heavy io loads. 3/ Probably best summarised as ext3 + fsync + heavy io = very poor disk performance. 4/ A workaround appears to be: adding mount options [noatime, nodiratime, data=writeback] 5/ Workaround for vim also indicated in above discussion. 6/ This is a fundamental design/functionality issue - maybe better handled as a Blueprint ( https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu ). No, MythTV messages are unrelated. OK. Re-read your Feisty dmesg. The following line indicates a likely BIOS bug: ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... file /DSDT.aml not found, using machine DSDT This is not uncommon. In your situation it appears to be related to just gathering some CPU related information. 1/ You could check whether your hardware manufacturer has a BIOS upgrade available. 2/ You could try a later Ubuntu release (if this has become a known bios bug a workaround may be included in a later release). There are other methods involving creating custom DSDT.aml but these are not trivial. Search Google on the above error message and you will find them. See here for some background: http://gaugusch.at/kernel.shtml ) It appears your system is fully functional. In the absence of an identifiable operational problem it's difficult to suggest a path forward. It maybe best to do nothing unless a lack of functionality or disfunction is discovered. -- ACPI-0517: *** Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_PR_ .CPU1._PDC] (Node dfffe660), AE_BAD_HEADER https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/98726 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 64133] Re: CPU not detected on a Compaq Proliant 3000 dual P II 400 Mhz
Joachim, OK. Pre-SMBIOS system. Your system was manufactured pre-1999 (probably). However, it does appear to have ACPI functionality. This appears to be disabled by default on your system probably due to it's age. You could try booting with acpi=force kernel option? Long-shot! ++ Note to Kernel Team: 1/ This is a Pre-SMBIOS system. 2/ Summary of problem: Second CPU not recognised. 3/ It appears to have ACPI functionality, although unsure if it's supported. 4/ Compaq Proliant 3000 was originally sold with Linux support (Suse 67 RH 67 ) 5/ Firmware documentation can be searched for here http://h2.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ [search for proliant] 6/ Firmware updates (Linux supported) are available and where released as recently as 2005. [Bug 40243] Re: Pressing power button hangs the system with 2.6.15-20-686
Jarlath, I would suggest that you do the following: Check your bios settings. There will likely be a setting which sets the functionality of the power button. Try some different settings here. The usual options are Suspend to RAM or Disk, and hold for 4 secs for hard power down, signal to OS for soft power down (there maybe more options than this). It maybe that that you are experiencing some sort of bug with regards to ACPI support for your motherboard. Try the debugging procedures here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI If none of the above helps then file a new bug report. File it against the Linux-source-2.6.xx (depending upon which release you are using). Please include the information as separate attachments: * Output of uname -a * Output of sudo lspci -vvnn * Output of sudo dmidecode * Try to suspend/hibernate and then restart the system and attach /var/log/kern.log.0 * Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. [Bug 40243] Re: Pressing power button hangs the system with 2.6.15-20-686
Jarlath, Have you tried the kernel boot option specified in the previous comment by Michal? On older PCs (like Michal's) ACPI is disabled by default because it didn't physically exist in most PCs back around 1999. If a PC from this era does happen to have ACPI functionality then you must force the kernel to use it by using the kernel boot option acpi=force. Gutsy carries a warning about this at boot time if it discovers an older PC. If you have a modern PC and are having similar trouble then you should consider filing a new bug report. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Pressing power button hangs the system with 2.6.15-20-686 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40243 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 48675] Re: rpc.nfsd generates oops
Can you examine Bug #58170 . It seems likely to be the same bug. There appears to be a kernel race condition which occurs on kernels 2.6.15 2.6.16. Apparently fixed by 2.6.18 (maybe before). It occurs with nfs mounts. This bug commentary includes a patch which is reported to have solved this for these kernels. Perhaps you can comment test if you are able. [Bug 48624] Re: T41p freezes when swap battery for CD player
Ok. For anyone else viewing this report, the following may provide some help: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Lenovo_IBM Laptop manufacturers often build outside of accepted standards and workarounds often must be found for individual laptops models. For this reason and for future reference a list of Ubuntu certified hardware is available here: http://webapps.ubuntu.com/certification/ Also, as a matter of interest to anyone else reading this report, the Technical Workshop Manual for this laptop is available here: http://people.debian.org/~ericvb/92p2252.pdf Note for future reference: I can find no other similar bug listed with Debian or Launchpad. -- T41p freezes when swap battery for CD player https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48624 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
