[Bug 432211] Re: rt2860sta driver not working with network manager

2010-04-07 Thread GemNEye
@bomagainpenguin -- Have you tried to manually configure wireless
adapter using iwconfig command from a shell prompt? I have not tried
Lucid yet, but that has worked for me on several other distros including
different flavors of Ubuntu. Once the connection is established the
first time, subsequent connections are automatically established via
network manager. Not a fix, but possibly a work-around.

[Bug 445829] Re: Text on Games menu it outside of window

2009-10-19 Thread GemNEye
#8 is a hack; not a solution. The Games menu item works fine in Jaunty
Netbook Remix, without a hack. This is a bug, albeit extremely minor,
but none of the other OS competitors would allow this bug in a final
release.

[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100

2009-10-19 Thread GemNEye
With a final release about 10-days away this would seem to be a major
issue. Although several posters are offering hack suggestions, I
have not seen a post that is really addressing the bug. None of the
other competing Operating Systems would be able survive the barrage of
bad media this type of bug would generate. I am testing, the latest
daily builds, of both Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and Kubuntu Netbook and
these releases are far from final release form. This thread is really
not the forum to get up on my soapbox, but it is aggravating to read all
of these hack solutions. I really would like Ubuntu to gain more
momentum, but when going head-to-head with competing OSes being released
within 3-months of each other, Ubuntu is not putting is best face
forward.

arghhh! hit the wrong button:

This is also happening with the latest updates as of 07-OCT-2009.

In alacarte (System-Preferences-Main Menu), change the default icon of
any launcher to have a custom icon. The icon displays correctly in the
desktop-launcher with the new custom icon. After clicking on the + of
the launcher that was modified, the launcher item is added to the
Favorites menu. Unfortunately, the custom modification of the icon
does not get saved when it got moved to Favorites. Instead it retains
the icon of the original launcher.

2009-10-07 Thread GemNEye
Logging in and out, restarting GDM, nor rebooting changes the display of
the icon. The icons that existed when the .desktop file or .deb package
was installed is the icon that shows up in the favorites menu. The
expectation is that the customisation that was made in alacarte would
have also changed when launcher item was added to favorites.

[Bug 432211] Re: rt2860sta driver not working with network manager

2009-10-07 Thread GemNEye
I manually used the iwconfig command to set key and essid.

Next I configured a connection using network manager. This time the
connection was made, and was asked for password to keyring/kdewallet.

Now, the connection is automatically made with no interaction (In both
Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Kubuntu Netbook) between reboots.

2009-09-30 Thread GemNEye
The daily build from 2009-09-29 will not even boot on my MSI Wind U100
(from USB thumb drive). I have tried several options in creating the
flash drive (usb creator, unetbootin, fusbi, manually copying the files,
etc) and have even tried to boot in safe graphics mode, but the furthest
I can get is the system hanging just like mentioned above. The first
.WAV sound is played and the animation of the Ubuntu spotlight
screen stops and the system stops with just the sportlight screen.

Taking the build from above and applying the latest updates renders the

I will try re-installing with the latest daily builds of Karmic Netbook

works, but the network adapter is still not working with network
manager, I will try installing a Mainline kernel build and see if the

[Bug 432211] [NEW] rt2860sta driver not working with network manager

2009-09-17 Thread GemNEye
Public bug reported:

The kernel driver, rt2860sta (RaLink RT2860 wireless network adapter),
will not connect to WEP encrypted network using the network manager.

The staging driver in kernel 2.6.31 works fine with Jaunty, but the
rt2860sta driver is not working on the same computer (MSI WIND U100)
using Karmic Netbook Remix and Karmic Kubuntu Netbook.

The kernel driver is loaded, and SSIDs of brodcasted networks can be
discovered, but device/driver is unable to connect to a non-broadcasted
ssid which uses 64-bit WEP encryption (trying to use the network manager
interface to manage connection).

[Bug 423873] Re: screen brightness flickers at login screen

2009-09-17 Thread GemNEye
The brightness toggles up (brighter) and down (dimmer) by what appears
to be one click of the Fn+F4 and Fn+5 keys. The flickering continues
through the GDM login screen and still exists after the desktop is
displayed. Using the Karmic Netbook Remix build from 2009-09-16, this
item still exists (system is also MSI Wind U100 netbook). The
flickering eventually stops, but I would not say that is stop at a
consistent rate.

[Bug 409197] [NEW] rt2860sta driver not working on Kubuntu Netbook

2009-08-05 Thread GemNEye
Public bug reported:

Using the 2009-08-03 build of Kubuntu Netbook 9.10 beta (live version)
the RaLink 2860 wireless adapter could not connect to a 64-bit WEP
encrypted AP.

The rt2860sta module loads, and wireless networks which broadcast their
SSID can be found, but no connection can be made to AP.

This is similar to the posts for the RaLink 2860 drivers not working in
Jaunty.

Even when trying to configure connection to a hidden SSID it did not
even look like it could locate the SSID. After pressing enter when
asked for SSID nothing happens.

The staging drivers for the 2860 in the newer 2.6.30 kernels are working
fine on MSI WIND U100 netbook (currently working fine in jaunty with
2.6.31-020631rc5-generic kernel).

2007-11-02 Thread GemNEye
This error appears to have been fixed in Gutsy Gibbon final release.
Not only is the error not present, but the adapter appears to work
without NDIS wrapper. Although this has not been tested extensively. I
was not able to connect to WEP encrypted network, but again I have
barely begun to look at what might be causing the problem, so I would
not want to report anything at this time. Only that the USB core
exception that was thrown in 7.04 does not appear in 7.10.
