[Bug 1947472] Re: Medion Akoya S15449: Touchpad key missing

2021-10-16 Thread Gernot Buth
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected impish

** Description changed:

  Hardware: Medion Akoya S15449
  Ubuntu Budgie 21.10
  budgie-desktop 10.5.3
  Kernel: 5.13.0-19-generic
The right "mouse button" of the touchpad is not working.
  It works in Windows.
It works with the same Ubuntu Budgie version running in a VirtualBox.
It works with an external mouse connected via USB.
But it does not work on a stand-alone Ubuntu Budgie 21.10 with the built-in
touchpad.
I suspect this bug is related to a known kernel bug:
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213031
because with previous kernel versions both touchpad and keykoard didn't work
at all with any Linux on the Medion Akoya S15449.

[Bug 1837318] Re: Cannot store password. Password prompt never ends

2020-07-18 Thread Gernot Leitgab
It is working on my actual workstation:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (beaver-three-eyed-raven X92)
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic

$ apt-cache policy libsecret-tools
libsecret-tools:
  Installiert: 0.18.6-1
  Installationskandidat: 0.18.6-1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 0.18.6-1 500
500 http://at.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

But I have the same problem on my fresh installed workstation:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04
Codename: focal

$ apt-cache policy libsecret-tools
libsecret-tools:
  Installiert: 0.20.3-0ubuntu1
  Installationskandidat: 0.20.3-0ubuntu1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 0.20.3-0ubuntu1 500

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.20.2-1 500
500 http://at.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages

So maybe it has to do with a (missing) setting or it is the result of an
incomplete setup?

[Bug 613273] Re: run-init: nuking initramfs contents: directory not empty

2013-01-29 Thread Gernot Hillier, Siemens CT
As already mentioned in comment 10, we experienced the same bug at the
end of 2011 and were hit by it in internal tests every few weeks.

After applying the mentioned change, it disappeared. Since somewhen in
2012, we're in the field with about hundred systems running Lucid with
this patch and never ever saw the problem again. So probably applying
the change to Lucid-updates would make sense?

To make it easy for you, I also added our patch now.

** Patch added: "waiting for udev to settle before killing it"

[Bug 610107] Re: Race condition at system-boot: md-RAID not always ready in time

2011-09-20 Thread Gernot Hillier
We also see somehow similar issues here sporadically on a number of
machines with 10.04.1 - in our case, we only have a data-RAID which is
not necessary for mounting root partition. And this data raid will stay
half-way assembled on some boots.

Currently, we think it's caused by udevd being killed in the middle of
its operation, see #613273.

If "mdadm --incremental" is interrupted at the wrong moment, it seems to
cause a lot of weird issues - ranging from a leftover /dev/.tmp.md.8:xx
which makes mdadm bailing out with "Strange error loading metadata for
/dev/md0" for all future operations until reboot to completely damaged
data structures in the kernel with wrong device numbers, half-busy
devices and the like.

[Bug 613273] Re: kernel panic on ec2 in system_call_fastpath

2011-09-20 Thread Gernot Hillier
We sporadically also see similar symptoms to this bug and #610107. I
think they're also connected and both caused by killing udev in the
middle of its operation. The huge number of similar bugs makes me think
this is not the best idea even when it gives us 2 or 3 seconds less of
boot time.

Wouldn't simply adding "/sbin/udevadm settle" before killing udev solve
this issue? We're currently starting long-term tests to see whether it
helps.

[Bug 767085] Re: Package dante-client needs updated version dependency on libc6

2011-07-12 Thread Gernot Hillier
I can confirm this is not fixed. With 1.1.19.dfsg-3ubuntu4.1, a simple
"socksify ssh" just fails silently.

After adding the workaroud link for libc.so to /usr/lib as described by
Scott Wood in comment #12, it worked.

Can someone please help in reopening this bug? Or shall I report a new
one?

[Bug 655849] Re: /etc/bash_completion.d/mutt quotes tilde which cannot be expanded by bash (or: why is query_command invoked at this place at all?)

** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt"

-
- Package: bash-completion

-
- General information
-
- Release: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

  Expected vs observed behaviour
  ===
  When typing
  $ mutt -f =k
bash-completion should offer mailboxes starting with "k"

Instead, bash gives the error message
$ mutt -f =kbash: ~/.mutt/muttquery: No such file or directory

Bug 1: Completion produces a bash error
Bug 2: Completion executes mutt's query_command, which is intended for
retrieving email addresses, not mail boxes

  Analysis
  ===
  - Pressing invokes bash completion, which calls "_muttquery" from
/etc/bash_completion.d/mutt
  - "_muttquery" calls "mutt -Q query_command", which in my case returns the

surrounding quotes), replaces %s by "'\''k'\''" (without surrounding quotes),
and then executes the bash command

Since the tilde is quoted by single quotes, bash does not expand it to
the home dir, but interprets it literally. Hence the observed bash error
  message.

Bug 1: Completion should not single-quote tildes which are expected to be

detected as ALC888:

7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0
HDA NVidia

null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)

but their as no new device:

aplay -l

perhaps it is fixed with 2.6.28 kernel - their should be hdmi support
for newer nvidia chips (MCP79)

[Bug 191495] [NEW] repeating calendar entry doubles up

2008-02-13 Thread Gernot Hassenpflug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In evolution, I wish to enter several identical appointments for the
month, which do not fall cleanly on a particular day of the week: the
exceptions for missing days I note using the exceptions entry method
provided, so that they do not appear, and then I copy an existing
appointment to the non-regular days which do not fit the regular meeting
method that evolution offers. However, the paste operation hangs the
calendar, and it either crashes on its own or I force close it.

When I now look at my appointments in the time/date calendar in the
GNOME panel (top right in Ubuntu Hardy default) I see that the copied
appointments are in fact there, *but* the appointment appears twice
(e.g., two rows saying the same thing). This double-appointment does not
manifest when I open the actual calendar full-screen, nor do I see a way
to edit away the double entry.

I also note that when I change a regular appointment from N entries to
N-1 entries the calendar hangs and the appointment number is not
changed, so I need to remove the individual appointment manually using
the right-mouse menu (delete current appointment instance).

Regards,
  Gernot Hassenpflug

[Bug 175191] f-spot changes timestamp in an incorrect way

2007-12-09 Thread Gernot Holzleitner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

when i import some image f-spot changes metadata (creation-date). the time
portion differs 1 or 2 hours from original.
f-spot didn't do that when i imported all of my photos first (about 1400 pcs).
but then i wanted to remove some and to import them again.
and now f-spot makes e.g. out of 2007:10:31 19:30:02 -> 2007:10:31 18:30:02

usion 0.4.0

[Bug 29622] Re: Many web browsers not print the headers and footers.

2007-06-18 Thread Gernot
I've spent some time looking at the ppd for my Epson PM-670C and found that
using align.ps and the alignmargins utility from OpenPrinting.org I could
confirm that the PPD is absolutely correct as far as the physical printable
area of the page is concerned (I used the Epson Stylus Photo Series PPD). I
investigated this because Firefox/Iceweasel was cutting off the outer edges of
the header in my printouts. So I measured in millimeters what the margins were
in fact, and put those (converted to inches) into the options for that printer
in the Firefox/Iceweasel print dialog options settings. Presto, the printing
did the right thing. However, as people have pointed out, there's a lot more to
printing than just setting the right margins, LOL It does help tremendously if
that detail is right though, so please have a look at align.ps and friends and
see if you can improve the output of your printing while it gets fixed in the
browser.

[Bug 113539] Re: starting ACPI services causes segmentation fault with kernel 2.6.20

2007-06-08 Thread Gernot Hillier
I did see exactly the same problem on a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo P5905
i945G PC with the original kernel of Kubuntu 7.04 (2.6.20-15) - BUT for
me the problem is NOT gone after updating the kernel to 2.6.20-16.28.
:-(

On the boot screen, I get exactly the same output as Malte - and the
kernel BUG message looks similar (extracted from /var/log/kern.log):

[Bug 113539] Re: starting ACPI services causes segmentation fault with kernel 2.6.20

2007-06-08 Thread Gernot Hillier
Regarding the questions of Brian:

1)
# uname -a
Linux gernot 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Wed May 23 01:46:23 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

2) Sorry, I dunno how to run dmesg easily when the system is hanging
during the boot process. Instead, I'll attach /var/log/kern.log showing
the complete bootup including the Oops. Hope that's ok. If you
absolutely require the original dmesg output, please tell and I'll
figure out some way to create one for you.

3) I'll attach the output of lspci in a minute.

[Bug 119351] udev 40-permissions.rules: wrong case in vendor string for Epson Perfection1200 scanner

2007-06-08 Thread Gernot Hillier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

After connecting my SCSI Scanner Epson Perfection 1200S, I found that a
/dev/sg? is created, but with the wrong permissions (group root). It
looks like the current udev rules in
/etc/udev/rules.d/40-permissions.rules are using the wrong
upper/lowercase mix or Epson uses different cases in their vendor
strings.

This is the original line in 40-permissions.rules which did NOT work for my
scanner:
ATTRS{type}=="3", ATTRS{vendor}=="Epson", GROUP="scanner"

And this is the line I had to add:
ATTRS{type}=="3", ATTRS{vendor}=="EPSON", GROUP="scanner"

After adding this simple line, the scanner worked out-of-the-box with
Kubuntu 7.04.

For the sake of completeness, here's the output of udevinfo:
$ udevinfo -a -p /sys/class/scsi_generic/sg3

Udevinfo starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.

2007-01-09 Thread Gernot Hassenpflug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs-snapshot

system: Ubuntu 6.10 on AMD64 (Opteron 2.2GHz dual)

conditions: wrote letter in LaTeX (AUCTeX mode), displayed
via xDvi a few times. Finally want to print, so try to
select the Command menu from the GTK menu bar.
But no response from mouse press, and seconds later
  emacs destroyed itself.
Restarted emacs, problem did not recur, and printing
  worked fine.

I hope the bug report attached file is useful.
Regards, Gernot
