[Bug 626987] [NEW] [maverick][une] mutter crashes with opengl error 1281

2010-08-30 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutter

I'm running Ubuntu Netbook Edition on an up-to-date maverick system.
Whenever I run the mouse across the fancy app buttons in the mutter
taskbar, mutter crashes on me, with the following error message (see
attached log also):

OpenGL Error 1281 in file ./ctk-menu-expandable.c at line 1279.

The ubuntu icon in the top left corner and the app tray work as they
should - the problem is the taskbar buttons on the left edge of the
screen.

I'm using the intel driver on a 855GM chip.

mutter version: 2.31.5-0ubuntu4

Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide.

[Bug 624834] [NEW] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 000000fc

2010-08-26 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

There's not much I can say, really. Apport alerted me of this oops but I
haven't really noticed anything myself.

I'm running 2.6.32-22-generic although the current maverick kernel is
2.6.35-19-generic, because Xorg acts weird on that kernel. (a separate
bug is reported)

[Bug 622990] Re: [maverick][regression] no mouse pointer visible

2010-08-24 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Yeah, and in case you get too interested in the gdm and xorg config and
logs. Don't. I start Xorg with startx, since my primary Xorg fails.
(That's #619990)

So please disregard those files.

[Bug 622990] [NEW] [maverick][regression] no mouse pointer visible

2010-08-23 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I upgraded my system from 10.04 to 10.10 a week ago, and suddenly I have
no visible mouse pointer. Not with the synaptics touch pad, nor with an
external usb-connected mouse.

The mouse pointer still moves around: icons are highlighted when I run
the mouse across them, and all buttons still work as they should. (I've
enabled some accessibility setting to highlight my pointer whenever I
hit Ctrl, so I can still use the mouse to some degree.)

This used to work in 10.04.

If there's anything more I can provide to help sort this out, let me
know. Thanks for all your hard work!

[Bug 619990] [NEW] [maverick] driver won't load on kms kernel

2010-08-18 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-vesa

I'm running maverick on a 2.6.35-15-generic kernel. This is a Dell X300.

When xorg tries to load the vesa driver, it errors out (also see
attached Xorg.log):

(EE) VESA: Kernel modesetting driver in use, refusing to load

$ lsb_release -rd

$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-vesa

(I would've run ubuntu-bug, but I had to boot another kernel to log this.

[Bug 566379] Re: [i855] X doesn't start with kernel 2.6.32-21 unless passing i915.modeset=1

2010-05-24 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Just a follow-up on comment #33.

After a few minutes running with modeset=1, xorg crashed, and I'm back
to the vesa driver. I've added my xorg.log, in the hope that it may be
useful.

2010-05-24 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
I'd just like to add that my Dell x300 machine starts up perfectly (it
didn't before), now that I've added i915.modeset=1, just like the
original bug report says.

Yeah, it's a boring "me too". But I wanted to weigh in since other bug
reports hint that KMS was disabled when it was assumed that a few lucid
alpha testers that wanted modeset=0 represented a majority. So this is
to balancing the scales :)

Oh, and super thanks for the great work, all of you!

Good catch, Jonathan!

I did try searching bugs.kde.org, but I should've thought to also look
through closed issues there.

Thanks for a prompt reply.

Cheers!

Oh, and I'm running with the "4.2.3-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1" packages of
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu, in case it matters (but
"amarok" is from the default archive, as you can see from above).

[Bug 380081] [NEW] [jaunty] amarok crashes on podcast doubleclick

2009-05-24 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

I've subscribed to three podcast channels. Whenever I double click on
one of them, the status bar briefly reports "updating podcast", and then
amarok crashes.

(Incidentally, right-click->"load" doesn't do anything, but "Configure"
works.)

The three podcasts are
http://podkast.nrk.no/program/radiodokumentaren.rss
http://podkast.nrk.no/program/moerkets_opplevelser.rss
http://podkast.nrk.no/program/radioresepsjonen.rss
, in case that has anything to do with anything :)

[Bug 350280] Re: [jaunty] digikam will not add smb folder

2009-03-28 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
*blush*

I should've read the help text more thoroughly. It clearly states that
the network folder must be mounted locally before digikam will read it.

(For others stumbling into the same darkness: install 'smbfs' and do
sudo mount.cifs //box/pics /mnt/pics)

So while there is no smb bug in digikam, the source of my confusion
remains (and this could be improved): digikam should not silently strip
the smb:// url, but display a warning like "note that remote urls are
not supported."

So while the original problem is moot, I still feel that this is a bug.

Sorry for the fuzz.

Take care and thanks for a great job.

[Bug 350280] [NEW] digikam will not add smb folder

2009-03-28 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

This is from the jaunty beta.

All my pictures are stored on a NAS that runs linux and samba. I have
made a shortcut in dolphin, and verified that it works (I can see and
access all folders and pictures from the NAS). The url is
"smb://box/pics"

Now I'm trying to add the folder to the network folder list of digikam.
Settings -> . -> Collections -> Collections on network shares -> Add
collection.

In the folder chooser I select the dolphin shortcut (and again, I can
see all subfolders from the tree). When I press OK, I get the following
warning dialogue:

"Problem adding collection"
"The selected folder does not exist or is not readable"

[Bug 297806] Re: Cannot change password in "About Me" kcm module

2009-03-28 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Alas, on a fresh beta install of 9.04, changing the name or email
address -- while successful -- confusingly brings up a "failed"
dialogue:

"""
An error occurred and your password has probably not been changed. The error
message was:
chfn: Permission denied.
"""

So while the name _is_ changed, the erroneous error dialogue leaves me
quite confused.

(Note that changing the password works flawlessly, so maybe this belongs
to a separate bug report.)

[Bug 227062] Re: [regression] Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory

2008-09-22 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
I can confirm that diabling the "savedefault" line in the Vista stanza
*solves this problem*. Thanks, Piotr!

How do I proceed in pinpointing the bug?

Here's to removing that line from the autogenerated menu.lst (since, as
Piotr correctly notes, it doesn't do anything anyway, as long as the
value of 'default' is not 'saved').

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: grub

Sometime between Hardy beta and Hardy, grub stopped booting my Windows
  Vista partition.

Now, when I try to boot the Vista entry from grub, it fails with the
  following message:

  "
Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory

  Press any key to continue...
  "

My menu.lst was auto-generated by the Hardy beta installer, and I
haven't touched it since. I occasionally boot the Vista partition, which
worked fine up until a few days ago. Alas, I'm not really able to tell
which grub version that caused this. I'll try to re-install some older
versions and report back the results.

I'm attaching my menu.lst. Please let me know if something else is needed.

[Bug 227062] Re: [regression] Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory

2008-05-05 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
Of course, this may or may not be related to Bug #109672, but since
that's been left alone for a year, and this appears to be a regression,
I created a new bug report for this issue.

[Bug 156396] Re: network manager using all of cpu

2007-11-08 Thread Håvard Gulldahl
I'm seeing the same thing, only my desktop system has not been asleep,
just inactive for some time.

The applet claims to be connected to a wlan with an ESSID of
'(unknown)'. There are no available networks in the network list, and
the cpu is spinning at 93%-99%. My network uses WPA2 authentication.

FWIW, I've seen the same error both on KDE (KNetworkManager -- upgraded
from Feisty) and Gnome (freshly installed).

Is there any way to provide something (e.g logs) that will help track
this down?
