[Bug 577442] [NEW] LTSP Local Apps don't work when logged on as an AD user

2010-05-08 Thread Harry Rickards
Public bug reported:

When using LTSP 5.2 (5.2.1-0ubuntu5 I believe, but nothing to do with
local apps seems to have been updated since then), local applications
run fine when running ltsp-localapps (for example 'ltsp-localapps
xterm'). However, when logged on as an Active Directory user using
Likewise (5.4.0.42111-1 I think, but again nothing to do with LTSP or
local apps seems to have been updated since then) nothing happens when
ltsp-localapps is run. Ubuntu release is lucid.

I installed a minimal system via debootstrap so a dependency that was
missed in debian/control is not installed?

[Bug 505914] Re: Sync lives 1.1.8-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-01-11 Thread Harry Rickards
Hi,

Sorry for the bother, but could we please hold off with 1.1.8 until
1.1.8-2 as 1.1.8-1 causes a file conflict with dirac. See Debian bug
#564665. This is trivial to fix, but as I am currently in discussions
with pkg-multimedia-maintainers about becoming a member, which would
require some other changes, it may be a few days before a new version is
ready.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this bug. Unfortunately it's already been reported
and is a known issue. The easiest way to fix the bug is to uninstall the
lives you have from GetDeb, either with a GUI (such as synaptic) or a
CLI (such as aptitude) tool and then reinstall the version from the
repositories either with a GUI (such as synaptic) or a CLI (such as
aptitude) tool. If you need any help doing that please feel free to
either ask here or email me.

[Bug 481085] Re: dpkg default flags break compilation

2009-11-12 Thread Harry Rickards
Hi,

Some more information:

As far as I can tell this only affects jaunty, karmic and lucid. The
problem seems to be introduced in 1.14.24ubuntu1 and previous versions
of Ubuntu don't contain this version or higher.

To reproduce this problem simply try to compile problems such as LiVES
(source package name lives) with a dpkg version higher than
1.14.24ubuntu1. Looking through the build log you should see that
LDFLAGS has been set to -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. See
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34342772/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-
amd64.lives_1.1.4-1_FULLYBUILT.txt.gz for an example.

While this issue is being resolved, please could someone make sure that
the relevant changes don't get synced across to Debian? The last thing
we need is lives and other programs on Debian *and* Ubuntu crashing
because of a dpkg bug.

2009-10-30 Thread Harry Rickards
Upstream thinks (and I agree) that it would be better if 1.1.5 was used
as an update to 1.1.4. 1.1.5 is in Debian and in GetDeb and so far no
bug reports have been filed. If someone could kindly upload 1.1.5 to
karmic-proposed, I and some other karmic users could test more
extensively. Anyone willing to upload?

[Bug 465293] Re: lives hangs if jack is selected as audio player

2009-10-30 Thread Harry Rickards
Some code was inadvertantly omitted from 1.1.4 (the version in karmic).
These lines of code create the ~/.jackdrc file which is needed to start
up jack correctly. These lines of code are in 1.1.5, which is requested
to be synced to lucid. See attached a patch for 1.1.4 which adds the
lines of code.

TEST CASE
To reproduce this bug:
Start a fresh install of LiVES (with no ~/.lives file) and with no ~/.jackdrc
file. Select jack as your initial audio player.

The code in question was in LiVES prior to version 1.1.3, and is also in
the stable branch (1.0.x). It was removed inadvertantly in version 1.1.3
when pulse audio support was added.

I think this can be fixed by putting a Conflicts: in lives-data,

[Bug 443201] Re: lives from the main repository cannot be upgraded from/to the GetDeb version

2009-10-25 Thread Harry Rickards
GetDeb has said that they will switch to using 4 source packages when in
the future they will be using an APT repository.

Just to summarise for any newcomers:
When upgrading the version of lives in the repository to or from the GetDeb
version of lives, dpkg complains about either libweed0, libweed-dev, lives-data
or lives trying to replace files it doesn't own. This is because the GetDeb
lives is only one binary package, whereas the version in the repository is 4.
This should be fixed in the future when GetDeb switch to an APT repository and
start using 4 binary packages. In the meantime I'm looking for a solution.

the terminal and then reinstall the version from the repositories either
with Synaptic or with 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install

The package is in Debian (packages.qa.debian.org/lives), but I'm afraid
I think it's too late to get 1.1.4 or even 1.1.3 into karmic. You can
however get 1.1.4 from GetDeb.net. Because it's just one binary package
from GetDeb, you'll need to apt-get remove lives first.

2009-10-05 Thread Harry Rickards
Hi,

This is a known issue (see similar but not duplicate bug #436987).
Basically all the files in the GetDeb package are contained within the
one package, lives. When upgrading to the packages in the repository,
files are split across lives, lives-data, libweed0 and libweed-dev. dpkg
thinks that lives-data, libweed0 and libweed-dev are trying to overwrite
lives (from getdeb)'s files. The simple way to fix this is to simply
remove the GetDeb lives ('sudo apt-get remove lives') and install the
lives from the repository ('sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install
lives') which will also pull in lives-data and libweed0. If you need the
development libraries for libweed, you can also install libweed-dev
('sudo apt-get install libweed-dev'). I'm currently working on trying to
find a fix, but the only solution I can see so far is a preinst script
that removes lives if it's a getdeb vesion, or some sort of conflict
with lives getdeb version for libweed0, libweed-dev and lives-data. If I
don't find a cleaner solution, I think it would probably just be better
to advise people to remove the getdeb version before installing the
official one.

If you go from the official version to the getdeb version, bear in mind
you'll have to remove the official one first ('sudo apt-get remove
lives') and then upgrade to the getdeb version ('sudo apt-get install
lives' assuming the getdeb version is a higher version than the official
one).

Thanks
Harry Rickards

Hmm. That looks as though you've already had the GetDeb lives package
installed, which by the looks of doesn't upgrade nicely to the official
packages. Can you try a 'sudo apt-get remove lives' to remove the GetDeb
package, and then 'sudo apt-get install lives' to install the official
ones from the repository. I'll look into creating a fix.

The new upstream release (1.1.2) fixes an upstream bug that caused lives
to crash for a small but substantial number users on amd64 (although I
recieved the same error using i386).

[Bug 427836] Re: [new-upstream]LiVES 1.0.1

2009-09-12 Thread Harry Rickards
Thanks to the upstream developer (Gabriel 'salsaman' Finch) the bug's
been fixed and a new upstream version released - 1.1,2. I've packaged
this for Denian, uploaded it to mentors.debian.net and sent an RFS to
debian-ment...@lists.debian.org. This same version should work for Ubuntu as
well.

Am I right in thinking that because 1.1.2 adds new features, only 1.0.2
(just bugfixes) can be uploaded because it's past the Feature Freeze?

[Bug 427836] Re: [new-upstream]LiVES 1.0.1

2009-09-11 Thread Harry Rickards
Hi,

This is because the new upstream release fails to run on my machine. I'm
working on this with the upstream developer, and I think it's almost fixed.

What do you mean you can't install/upgrade lives? Does it fail

[Bug 417631] Re: Sync lives 1.0.0-4 from debian sid (main)

2009-08-25 Thread Harry Rickards
Okay. It doesn't take as long as it does for the ftp-master's approval
in Debian does it (~3 weeks), as it will be *way* past the Feature
Freeze then?

Hi,

If you could wait around an hour, I've got a few dependencies I still
need to add. I'll make sure they're in both Ubuntu and Debian though.

[Bug 417631] Re: Sync lives 1.0.0-4 from debian sid (main)

2009-08-24 Thread Harry Rickards
Alessio,

This can be fixed by replacing automake1.10 with automake in
debian/control. There's a debian/control avaliable at
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/deb-
maint/lives/trunk/debian/control?revision=14107 that has this, although
it also has a few other updates to the version in debian sid (main).
Those are listed at http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/deb-
maint/lives/trunk/debian/changelog?revision=14107 under lives 1.0.0-5
and the ones that apply to debian/control are as follows:

  * Added the right dependencies taken from the packaging notes
  * Replaced automake1.10 with automake
  * Made frei0r-plugins-dev and frei0r-plugins not for kfreebsd
  * Made libavc1394, libavc1394-dev, libraw1394 and libraw1394-dev not for
kfreebsd

The updated package will be released into Debian sometime next week
after upstream release the new upstream version.

[Bug 417631] [NEW] Sync lives 1.0.0-4 from debian sid (main)

2009-08-23 Thread Harry Rickards
Public bug reported:

Please sync lives (source package name) version 1.0.0-4 from Debian sid
main.

In binary package lives Depends there's automake1.10, which only exists
in Debian. automake can be substituted in Ubuntu. Do I need to create a
whole seperate -ubuntu release for that?

Thanks
Harry Rickards

[Bug 103616] Re: [needs-packaging] LiVES - Linux Video Editor System

2009-08-22 Thread Harry Rickards
Hi,

Basing my work on some of other's I've packaged lives for Debian.
Building the source package creates lives, lives-data, libweed0 and
libweed-dev. The package has been sponsored and uploaded to ftp-
master.debian.org, where it has been approved by the ftp master team. It
will be moved from incoming.debian.org to the main Debian repository in
roughly 2 1/2 hours. I'll then file a sync bug.

I know there have been multiple efforts to package for Ubuntu, but
seeing as this version is (almost) in Debian, I suggest it be the
version that get's synced into Ubuntu.

Thanks
Harry RIckards
