[Bug 1224575] Re: gnome-control-center keyboard no longer has way to modify caps lock key behavior
The proposed workaround with gnome-tweak-tool doesn't work for me. I can change the behaviour of Caps Lock in some ways, but not in others. Swiching Caps Lock with ESC works, but disabling it doesn't! (I use Unity with German localization. Could that affect the behaviour?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224575 Title: gnome-control-center keyboard no longer has way to modify caps lock key behavior To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/1224575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1301225] [NEW] Parts of Text disappear in Firefox and Thunderbird Editors /Text Areas
Public bug reported: System info: Firefox 28 Thunderbird 24.4.0 Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit When I edit text in Firefox or Thunderbird, parts of this text (usually entire rows above the cursor) seem to disappear while I type. This happens e.g. when I edit an email message inThunderbird, or edit a Jira comment or a Wikipedia page in Firefox. Sometimes the 'opposite' happens, i.e. a row is copied, so it is shown twice. The text is not really gone; I can restore it by selecting it (e.g. with Ctrl-a). I.e. only the text display is affected. The behavior is not quite reproducible. It does happen frequently, but I can't reproduce it exactly by typing the same text again. I had never observed this behavior before the latest Firefox upgrade. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301225 Title: Parts of Text disappear in Firefox and Thunderbird Editors /Text Areas To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1301225/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1259701] Re: 14.04 installer does not detect Windows 8.1
I can confirm the bug with Ubuntu 13.10 on a Dell Inspiron 3721. It had Windows 8 pre-Installed, to which I had added Ubuntu 13.04 on a second partition. I had disabled UEFI and secure boot, because I hadn't managed to install Ubuntu with UEFI active back then. When Windows was later updated to 8.1, the updater tacitly removed the grub bootloader, so I couldn't boot into Ubuntu any more. To fix that I chose to install 13.10 freshly. The installer offered me to update 13.04, or to completely replace 13.04 or to do something else. Under 'something else' there was no mention of Windows IIRC. When I chose to completely replace Ubuntu, the HD was newly partitioned, so both the windows and Linux partitions were scrapped and replaced by one large partition that filled the entire HD (and a small swap partition). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1259701 Title: 14.04 installer does not detect Windows 8.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1259701/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 366989] [NEW] booting fails: unable to handle kernel paging request at 40646461
Public bug reported: I upgraded from Xubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 today. The new system fails to boot when I use the default kernel 2.6.28-11. I use a fairly old Fujitsu-Siemens E6540 laptop. It does boot without a problem when I select kernel 2.6.27-11 in grub. The progress bar on the splash screen gets stuck at ca. 10%. The boot console (with 'quiet' turned off) shows several errors (in fact so many that I can't scroll up to the first one) which start with this line: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 40646461 It is followed by varying statements, e.g. this one: IP: [] _kmalloc+0x61/0xf0 I didn't write down anything further because I can't convince myself to write so much with pen and paper, but I can provide more information if needed. New errors appear every minute or so when I leave the console idle. It might have to do with PCMCIA, because each error says something about yenta_socket, but as I wrote I can only see the last few errors. When I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, shutdown fails also with the same error. BTW: The upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 initially failed at the beginning of the third step (I forgot what it was, perhaps download packages?) because "another process is accessing the package database" (or similar), but it did pass when I tried again. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- booting fails: unable to handle kernel paging request at 40646461 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366989 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 217299] [NEW] Save page corrupts name of Java applet class
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I saved a web page with an applet, e.g. http://www.selber.org/Applets/Mondrian.html with firefox (3.0~b5 +nobinonly-0ubuntu1) in a freshly installed (and updated) Hardy Heron 8.04 Beta. In the saved file, the CODE attribute of the APPLET tag was changed from CODE="org.selber.graphics.Mondrian.class" to CODE="Mondrian_files/org.html". This is not a Java class, therefore the applet fails to run when the saved page is opened with firefox. Apparently the class name is misunderstood as a file name and modified in order to point to a name in the local directory. This must not be done if the ARCHIVE attribute is given so that CODE points to a class in the archive, which doesn't change when saved. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Save page corrupts name of Java applet class https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 31631] Re: Java applet makes Firefox crash, 100% cpu usage
I observed the same in 7.10 when loading an applet with a (slightly) invalid code attribute of the applet tag: When the package parts are separated with backslashes like windows paths, e.g. code="com\example\stuff\Myclass.class", Mozilla and IE will gladly load and run the applet under windows. However, on Ubuntu 7.10, Firefox stalls and hogs the CPU. As far as I can see, this is the same for Java 5 or 6. A valid code attribute would of course look like this: code="com.example.stuff.Myclass.class" -- Java applet makes Firefox crash, 100% cpu usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 192409] Re: Firefox can't install Sun Java Plugin - not found
Sorry, I was a bit sloppy in my previous comment. To be precise, the installation of Java 6 fails; Java 5 works. Contrary to the initial report, multiverse is enabled for me. BTW: I can't install the Java 6 plugin with add/remove applications either (it is not in the list). -- Firefox can't install Sun Java Plugin - not found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The bug persists with Hardy Heron Beta 8.04. -- Firefox can't install Sun Java Plugin - not found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 191979] Re: nautilus uses lots of memory when showing properties of large file
Unfortunately I am unable to boot hardy alpha 4 with this particular computer. Its CD drive is broken and I don't have a replacement (it's a laptop). I tried to reproduce the bug with the hardy live CD on another PC, however, and it didn't occur. But if the bug is due to an obscure interaction between packages installed on the original computer, it wouldn't occur on the rather clean live environment, would it? BTW: As an addition to the original report: it doesn't matter whether the file is on NTFS or ext3, or whether VLC or totem is the default player for flv files. -- nautilus uses lots of memory when showing properties of large file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191979 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 191979] [NEW] nautilus uses lots of memory when showing properties of large file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I right-clicked on a large file (a .flv movie with 262 MB on an NTFS partition, video codec : FLV1, audio codec: mp3 as reported by VLC) and chose "Eigenschaften" (German, translates to "Properties", I guess). It looks as if nautilus tries to swallow the entire file just to display its properties. This caused nautilus to freeze; after a while, a dialog appeared with a (German) text meaning roughly "trying to display properties window, click cancel to abort". I clicked cancel, but the entire system was close to frozen, and was obviously swapping like mad. I checked with "free" on the command line and "Systemüberwachung" (System Monitor?): almost all physical memory (384 MB) was used; nautilus used roughly 200MB; the CPU load was below 2%. I waited for about 15 minutes without any change, then decided to kill nautilus (by clicking the X in the corner of the window). This took about 2 minutes. When it finally succumbed, the system was responsive again. I use Gutsy (7.10) with nautilus 2.20.0. VLC is my default video player (for this file type). The bug may be related to Bug #19756, but I decided to write a new one, because I was scared off by its status "invalid". I don't want this to be ignored.
