Zortrox solution is not quite quick if you have a lot of files, but yes
it works, after that all songs show the correct length...

[Bug 59331] Re: Network problem since kernel-2.6.17

2009-06-12 Thread Iván Campaña
I had the same problem with a server serving as a proxy using hardy
(8.04.2) and on my laptop using Jaunty (9.04), the same issue on both
sides...

I solved it by using this in /etc/sysctl.conf:

net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 16384 512000
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 512000

and afterwards, to make changes efective without restarting:

sudo sysctl -p

[Bug 205999] Re: Attachments names using ç are not correctly sent by Evolution (ATTnumber .dat)

2008-10-29 Thread Iván Campaña
Tested and it is still present, I ran into the same problem with a
document name in spanish (using vowels with accents áéíóú) and it
converted my PDF to a .DAT file.

It happens on Outlook 2007, 2003 and even on the OWA (Outlook Web
Access), after reading this bug report I tried sending the same file
changing the filename, by removing the accents and it worked, the file
got to all the people I tried without problems.

If the same exchange account is configured in evolution and the message
is opened, the attachment looks ok with the proper name.

I decided to create a message with 2 attachments, one with accent and
the oner with regular characters. Obviously the non accented name came
well to all the clients, but the other was converted. After looking at
the source of the message I found this:

File 1, with accents:
Content-Disposition: attachment;
filename*=ISO-8859-1''Presentaci%F3n%20de%20NODE.pdf
Content-Type: application/pdf; name*=ISO-8859-1''Presentaci%F3n%20de%20NODE.pdf

Where Presentaci%F3n%20de%20NODE should be Presentación de NODE

File 2, without accents:
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=Propuesta de mantenimiento.pdf
Content-Type: application/pdf; name=Propuesta de mantenimiento.pdf

Seems odd also that instead of enclosing the filename between the
quotation mark it is besides the quotation marks(there are 2 in there),
I don't know how the RFC defines such cases, but it migth give some
clues about the problem.

[Bug 212733] Re: [hardy] [regression] LCD brightness control (Dell) no longer works

Happens also with a Compaq 3317LA (v3000 series), it sends the signals
and calls the scripts, but when it tries to execute the acpi_fakekey 224

Writing directly to the /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness device works
withouth problems. Is it a problem with acpi_fakekey then??

[Bug 217042] [NEW] Brigthness keys stopped working on Compaq v3317LA (v3000 series) after upgrading to hardy

2008-04-13 Thread Iván Campaña
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Fn + F7 or Fn +F8 used to work all right in gutsy, after upgrading to hardy
they stopped working, I checked /var/log/acpid and the events are thrown
correctly but /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness reports no change at all...
If I manually do this (as superuser):
echo -n 62 /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
Being 62 any of the values shown in /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness, it
works correctly.

Just in case, the info corresponding to

[Bug 217049] [NEW] Propietary NVIDIA driver 169.12 causes graphical glitches

2008-04-13 Thread Iván Campaña
Public bug reported:

The previous available propietary driver for Nvidia was working ok in
gutsy, at least everything was up and running with decent speed. After
upgrading to hardy black and white bars appeared where there was
supposed to be smoke (primarily in games explosions), then I tried
downloading the version 173.08 from NVIDIA homepage, installed it and
everything went back to normal, well maybe even a little bit better from
what I can see.

Guess it is needed to update the driver in hardy to that version,
otherwise everytime there is a kernel update we would need to recompile
the module manually.

[Bug 140619] Re: [Gutsy] OpenOffice.org : Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit

2007-12-17 Thread Iván Campaña
Had the same error yesterday with the latest updates, tried all the
recommendations, removing, purging and then reinstalling all the oo
package, used the gconf tool, changed the GTK_IM_MODULE, even tried with
the fonts elimination found on some forums, still didn't work.

I did an strace to the main open office executable and then I found that
it was looking for some libflac8 library and then it segfaults (weird
since it is and audio library), checked the list of updates and there it
was, a security update for that library, went back to the previous
version digging through the packages available at
http://packages.ubuntu.com/ and after downgrading the library all
problems dissapeared and openoffice went back to normal.

I'm not sure if it is the same cause for all, but at least that way we
can get to know what is causing those issues.

In case anyone wants to try, this is the command line:

strace /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin

That way we can get to catch those pesky errors.

And if someone wants to know where the old libflac8 version is, here is the
link:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/flac/libflac8_1.2.1-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

The weird thing is, I have the latest version on my laptop and it works
fine.

[Bug 76495] Re: kubuntu edgy freezes when USB phone plugged in

2007-03-20 Thread Iván Campaña
An update, I was running xubuntu on an old laptop (Pentium II) and it
didn't freeze but it dropped some kernel errors when I received a
message on the phone and also I was not able to read some folder, the
console popped up messages saying that it was not able to get the file
size (I believe I have seen that marked as a bug in the kernel).

Yesterday I decided to give a try to Feisty on that laptop, did a dist-
upgrade and everything went fine except for one upgrade(slocate), solve
it and fixed some problems with fstab, now it recognized my drives as
scsi instead of IDE.

I wanted to know if the new kernel would solve my problems, and yes, now
it works perfectly, not locking or hanging, and I'm able to copy files
back and forth between the phone and the PC (As far as I have been able
to test).

Just in case, the data you were missing in the previous report (when it used to
fail):
Kernel version: 2.6.17-11-generic

lsusb report:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0421:04bd Nokia Mobile Phones
Bus 001 Device 001: ID :

I'll keep testing feisty with my phone to see if there are no other
issues.

[Bug 46510] Re: At boot doesn't recognize aic9405 controller sas/sata

2006-12-04 Thread Iván Campaña
I just installed edgy on a IBM xseries 206m, had the same problem, after
installing it couldn't boot because it was not able to load the drivers.

I wasted almost a 2 days reading different ways to solve it from debian
tutorials, none of those worked. The real solution took less than 15
minutes and would have save me from quite a headache.

Probably someone with experience read this bug description and
understood the way to solve it, but since I read this over and over and
could find an exit, here is the way to solve the problem:

After installing edgy or dapper from the live cd, don't reboot. Keep working
with the live CD. Open a terminal and create a directory to mount the just
installed system and chroot to that directory example:
#sudo -s
#mkdir /media/linux_206m
#mount /dev/sda1 /media/linux_206m
#chroot /media/linux_206m

(Assuming that sda1 is the partition where ubuntu is installed.)

Once you get there just edit this file: /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
Add a new line at the end of the file and write aic94xx
Close the file and execute this command:
update-initramfs -u -k all

Wait till it finish and problem solved, remove the live cd, reboot and
it should recognize the adaptec card and boot normally, no need to
modify the kernel, recompile, download anything or use extra tools.

Hope it helps someone.

[Bug 32727] Re: Daemon doesn't start

2006-08-05 Thread Iván Campaña
If you want to make it run, a temporary solution is to not only create
the directory, but also change the owner of that directory to ez-ipupd
or whatsoever user you have specified in the ez-ipupdate configuration
file for your host.

If you want a permanent solution (as I did) you would need to edit the file :
   /etc/init.d/ez-ipupdate

and add these lines after the line that says set -e (around line 10):

# Checks if directory already exists
if [[ ! -e /var/run/$NAME ]]
then
mkdir /var/run/$NAME/
chown -R ez-ipupd /var/run/$NAME/
fi

By the way, I'm using Dapper 6.06 x86, Desktop
