[Bug 1956760] Re: xHCI (xhci_hcd) host controller not working after unattended kernel upgrade

2022-05-05 Thread Ivo
I guess the problem is already fixed in a newer version because I cannot
reproduce it anymore.

2022-04-28 Thread Ivo Jansky
We reviewed the issue and the problem is in the web layer rather than in
the Ubuntu Advantage client.

Workaround:
Until the issue gets fixed, you should be able to use the "Buy now" button
instead of pressing the enter key in the third step. Please reply back, if the
workaround does not solve the issue for you.

[Bug 1953249] [NEW] UVD firmware for AMD Southern Islands (GCN 1) GPUs is missing

2021-12-05 Thread Ivo Cavalcante
Public bug reported:

Release: up-to-date Focal LTS (20.04.3)
Package-version: linux-firmware 1.187.20
Hardware model: [AMD/ATI] Chelsea LP [Radeon HD 7730M]

With the latest kernel upgrade (5.4 --> 5.11, if I recall correctly), my
laptop's discrete graphics stopped working. Looking at the logs, I found
these messages:

-- snippet --
kernel: [1.492908] [drm] amdgpu: dpm initialized
kernel: [1.492932] [drm] AMDGPU Display Connectors
kernel: [1.492951] amdgpu :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for
amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin failed with error -2
kernel: [1.492954] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_uvd: Can't load
firmware "amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin"
kernel: [1.492957] [drm:amdgpu_device_ip_init [amdgpu]] *ERROR* sw_init of
IP block  failed -2
kernel: [1.493196] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_init failed
kernel: [1.493198] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: Fatal error during GPU init
kernel: [1.493200] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu: finishing device.
-- snippet --

In fact, file '/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin' was missing. Running
'$ dpkg -L linux-firmware | sort' gives this:

-- snippet --
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/vegam_uvd.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/vegam_vce.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_ce.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_k_smc.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_mc.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_me.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_pfp.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_rlc.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_smc.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/yellow_carp_asd.bin
/lib/firmware/amdgpu/yellow_carp_ce.bin
-- snippet --

Copying the file from upstream
(https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git/tree/amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin) didn't work on my system,
probably because I use UEFI and the module wasn't signed (error below):

-- snippet --
kernel: [  502.174932] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_uvd: Can't validate
firmware "amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin"
kernel: [  502.174992] [drm:amdgpu_device_ip_init [amdgpu]] *ERROR* sw_init of
IP block  failed -22
kernel: [  502.175285] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_init failed
kernel: [ 502.175289] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: Fatal error during GPU init
kernel: [ 502.175293] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu: finishing device.
-- snippet --

I can confirm that reverting kernel driver to 'radeonsi' makes the
device usable again, but at the expense of Vulkan APIs (not supported by
this driver).

Could you, please, fix this?

[Bug 1912826] Re: Knockd service fails to start due to missing dependency

2021-01-27 Thread Ivo Straka
Here are the steps I used to reproduce the bug:

1. install Linux Mint 20.1 MATE
2. install package knockd
3. in /etc/knockd.conf, add Interface = eno1 (or your network interface)
4. in /etc/default/knockd, set START_KNOCKD=1
5. run "sudo systemctl enable knockd"
6. restart
7. after restarting, knockd is not up - it failed due to eno1 not being up

I also tried to reproduce the bug on Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 LTS (focal),
minimal install variant. However, no bug occurred. Mint 20.1 is based on
focal and uses the same knockd package version, but the bug occurred
only on Mint.

According to syslog (short version attached), it appears that even the
kernel loaded the network card after knockd tried to connect. It is
possible that how fast the system brings the network up depends on other
software and Ubuntu just happens to be faster.

If you'd like the whole syslog, I'll e-mail it privately. Also let me
know if I can help by doing some additional tests. Thank you!

[Bug 1912826] Re: Knockd service fails to start due to missing dependency

2021-01-25 Thread Ivo Straka
I am not sure what exactly makes the error reproducible. I encounter
this error at work, on a computer with freshly installed Linux Mint 20.1
MATE.

1. install the package knockd
2. configure /etc/knockd.conf, set Interface
3. edit /etc/default/knockd to set START_KNOCKD=1
4. enable knockd.service
5. restart the system

I tried at home, where I run the same system (although not freshly
installed, but gradually upgraded), and knockd starts succcessfully.

I also remember having a similar problem some time ago on other machines
at work; at the time I solved it by placing a System V init script to
/etc/network/if-up.d/. This might mean that the problem depends on the
network.

If it helps, I can try installing Ubuntu on a side partition at work and
try it from scratch again. I suspect that maybe if the NetworkManager
takes too long to bring an interface online, knockd fails. The positions
of the syslog entries of NetworkManager and knockd correspond with the
error happening. In comment #4 of the linked RH bug, J. Ralston claims
that the After= condition is insufficient by itself if the service in
question requires a dependency to be fully up and running.

[Bug 1912826] [NEW] Knockd service fails to start due to missing dependency

2021-01-22 Thread Ivo Straka
Public bug reported:

I would like to request a small fix in the systemd unit file
knockd.service. Please add the [Unit] line

Wants=network-online.target

Bug description:
When the system starts, the knockd daemon fails with a message "knockd[1012]:
could not open eno1: eno1: That device is not up". This bug was also described
here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1730634

In accordance with the recommendations in the systemd.unit
documentation, it should be sufficient to accompany the After= option
with a Wants= option.

This fixed the issue for me; and in the syslog I could see that the
network manager comes online before the knockd daemon (as required),
instead of after.

Tested on Linux Mint 20.1 that is based on Ubuntu focal (knockd
0.7-1ubuntu3).

[Bug 1904700] Re: Mouse settings not reapplied after reconnect or resume

2020-11-20 Thread Ivo Wever
Indeed, I forgot to point that out: the settings in the configuration
panel stay correct: to switch back to 'Right' as the primary button, I
have to first select 'Left', so I can then select 'Right' again. I could
probably fix it by hooking some xinput commands into the proper udev
event, but since it seems to be a regression, I was hoping someone
knowledgeable might realize the underlying issue, and come up with a
better fix :)

[Bug 1904700] [NEW] Mouse settings not reapplied after reconnect or resume

2020-11-18 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and notice that my mouse settings (I
mouse lefthanded) are no longer restored/reapplied when I reconnect its
usb receiver (gets disconnected due to use of KVM switch) or when
resuming (after suspend). I now have to reselect the right button as my
primary every time.

Similar error. Syslog grew to 11GB and I see the repitition of this
error message seemingly from the mac80211 driver. The error message (in
syslog) below repeats forever and fills up syslog. I don't know exactly
what triggers it.

using sessionInfo() I noticed I was using libopenblas0-pthread. After
removing libopenblas0-pthread and switching to default BLAS/Lapack
problem disappears.

[Bug 1850002] Re: /etc/grub.d/10_linux_zfs fail when zpool import output to stdout

2020-01-13 Thread Ivo Anjo
+1 had exactly this issue when I upgraded from an existing 18.04 setup
with zfs into 19.04 and then 19.10 on the same day.

The suggested workaround worked for me.

[Bug 1849512] [NEW] Creating a new user on top of ZFS filesystem does not create a new dataset for his home directory

2019-10-23 Thread Ivo Hristov

When you're using the experimental ZFS on root installation on Ubuntu 19.10

Hello there -- I'm the original reporter of this bug.

Since this one is marked as fixed, my suggestion would be to open a new
bug report, as the issue you saw may be a regression, rather than the
same as this bug, and it helps keep the discussion focused.

Also, if possible, my suggestion is to also include an archive that
triggers this issue as an attachment, so developers can quickly jump on
this one.

Happy KDE'ing and happy easter everyone!

[Bug 1779948] Re: Snapd gets stuck when starting Ubuntu.

2019-01-20 Thread Ivo
Seems the root ccause is lack of /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. I am trying to install
ubuntu server on machine with hardware raid, no /dev/sda or dev/sdb. Instlaler
complaisn aand then enters the loop.
As soon as I remove the hard disks from raid, it works, so workaround- make
sure you have /dev/sda or /dev/sdb..usb stick should do it. :)

[Bug 1758419] [NEW] Error upon installing Ubuntu 12.04 (also 16.04 and 17.10)

2018-03-23 Thread Ivo de Andrade de Deus
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to install Ubuntu as a dual boot alongside with Windows
10 on my notebook, a Lenovo Ideapad, but all versions I tried to install
so far have worked. I've asked on AskUbuntu about this issue
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/1018568/issues-installing-ubuntu-16-04
-lts-stuck-on-linux-signed-image-4-13-0-37-generi), but nobody seemed
inclined to help, so from there I resorted to try installing other
versions of Ubuntu other than 16.04, as 17.10 and 12.04, but they all
seem to either fail (12.04) or get stuck in not finding Source IDs
(16.04 and 17.10).

I would be more than happy to provide any additional info, and I thank
your attention and support beforehand.

[Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04

2017-08-23 Thread Ivo Straka
For reference, a couple of users have been experiencing the same issue
on HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8, which use Matrox MGA G200EH, the
original culprit that caused the module mgag200 to be excluded from the
kernel years ago.

https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-Netservers/HP-ProLiant-
Gen8-with-Ubuntu-16-and-no-monitor-using-iLO-remote/m-p/6972709

In the linked topic, I put together a step-by-step walkthrough through
installing the mgag200 module for Ubuntu or Ubuntu-based distros like
Mint. Some users might find it helpful.

Unfortunately, only one novice user tried this on HP Gen8 and apparently
it did not work. I am not sure whether the mgag200 module just does not
work with G200EH yet or whether there was some mistake made in the
approach either by me or the user. It would be very helpful for someone
to test this with this specific chip and report in more detail.

[Bug 1453655] Re: desktop icons disappear on Ubuntu 15.04 when clicking Open Dropbox folder

2017-07-07 Thread Ivo
same problem with Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty) :
I had two installs : one upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 and one clean install (next
to existing windows 10 partition). The problem was not present with Ubuntu
16.04.
In both installations the problem occurs : desktop icons disappear when dropbox
folder is opened from system tray

[Bug 1650666] Re: GVim crashes when opening new tab

2017-04-23 Thread Ivo Wever
Workaround: remove vim-gnome and vim-gtk3, install vim-gtk (which uses
gtk). Perhaps vim-gtk3 should specify a dependency on some specific gtk
library, which Nicholas Guriev and me are missing?

[Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04

2017-03-10 Thread Ivo Straka
Short version: kernel module driver "mgag200" did the trick for me. In kernel
config, it is represented by CONFIG_DRM_MGAG200.
http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/DRM_MGAG200.html

I found a bug that is relevant to this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1642470 It says
that the kernel module "mgag200" was blacklisted from kernels due to
this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1042903 I
tried manually compiling the driver as a module, adding it to a kernel
and it worked.

I had problems with MGA G200e [Pilot] ServerEngines (SEP1) card. I tried
Zoltán's X.org regression hack, I also tried using a recompiled up-to-
date mga_drv.so, the library in xserver-xorg-video-mga, where the
maintainers claim to support G200e chip
(https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-mga/, commits from
July 2016). Nothing worked. I am, however, just an intermediate user, so
I might have made a mistake somewhere. I also do not know the difference
between a kernel driver, X.org driver, and how they interact together
and how they are used. Therefore I will trust someone more knowledgeable
to put this all together, and I am just going to describe what I did to
make it work :-)

As a reference, I did a fresh install of Linux Mint 18.1 MATE, where the
GPU was unclaimed:

$ uname -a
Linux rack3test 4.4.0-66-generic #87-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 3 15:29:05 UTC 2017
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ sudo lshw -c display
  *-display UNCLAIMED
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: MGA G200e [Pilot] ServerEngines (SEP1)
   vendor: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd.
   physical id: 0
   bus info: pci@:02:00.0
   version: 05
   width: 32 bits
   clock: 33MHz
   capabilities: pm pciexpress msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list
   configuration: latency=0
   resources: memory:c200-c2ff memory:c101-c1013fff
memory:c080-c0ff memory:c100-c100

Then I tried two approaches, both worked.

1. the easier way is to compile and install just the module mgag200. I
downloaded the sources and headers for the current kernel, compiled and
installed the module, and then added it in the initramfs image. Then,
after reboot, it worked. Here are the resources I used:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/168279/how-do-i-build-a-single-in-tree-kernel-module
http://askubuntu.com/questions/676707/how-to-load-a-module-in-initrd

In the first one, do not forget to use your kernel version and the path
to the module (drivers/gpu/drm/mgag200). Also it is probably more
convenient to use "$ make menuconfig" instead of editing the .config
file with vi (you need the ncurses package though). In the menu, find
Graphics Drivers --> Graphics Support --> Kernel modesetting driver for
MGA G200 server engines, and enable it as a module. When updating
initramfs, it might be necessary to specify the kernel version, for
example $ update-initramfs -u -k 4.4.0-66-generic. If you have multiple
kernels, the command will tell you which initramfs it updated.

The result after a reboot:
$ uname -a
Linux rack3test 4.4.0-66-generic #87-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 3 15:29:05 UTC 2017
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ sudo lshw -c display
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: MGA G200e [Pilot] ServerEngines (SEP1)
   vendor: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd.
   physical id: 0
   bus info: pci@:02:00.0
   version: 05
   width: 32 bits
   clock: 33MHz
   capabilities: pm pciexpress msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
   configuration: driver=mgag200 latency=0
   resources: irq:16 memory:c200-c2ff memory:c101-c1013fff
memory:c080-c0ff memory:c100-c100

2. Second way is building a new kernel, which is much longer;
unfortunately, I tried it first :-) I downloaded the current stable
kernel sources from kernel.org, version 4.10.1. Then I used the existing
kernel config file for 4.4.0-66-generic, updated it with default choices
to 4.10.1 and enabled CONFIG_DRM_MGAG200 as a module. I compiled the
whole kernel and installed it, the new driver "mgag200" loads
automatically and it works.

I used Linux Mint 18.1 for testing, but the installed system is Mint
17.2. I tried compiling the kernel module there for kernel version
3.16.0-38-generic, but after enabling module mgag200 with modprobe, the
screen turned black and monitor went into sleep mode. I had to switch to
tty1 and reboot. After reboot, the module mgag200 was visible in lsmod,
but probably not active and the GPU was still unclaimed with no hardware
acceleration.

Maybe I did something wrong, but it is possible that the mgag200 module
helps only with newer kernels.

You can check whether your device is recognized by this driver in the
first link in this comment. Numeric ID (vendor, device) can be displayed
by running $ sudo lshw -c display -numeric, it will be in square
brackets under "product".

[Bug 1506753] Re: keyboard does pop up not after update to r26

2016-12-05 Thread Ivo Xavier
Hi everyone,

I'm having a similar issue on my E4.5 with the latest rc-proposed
builds, now I'm at r485.

I can reproduce this behavior every time:

1) Open Browser
2) Switch to private tab
3) tap search bar
4) Keyboard won't popup.

  So, to fix it I do this:

1) Open message app
2) Create a new message OR tap a existent chat
3) Tap text field
4) Keyboard popup
5) Switch back to browser
6) Keyboard pop ups and fully working

I don't know if my report match to the same bug reported here. If not, sorry :)

Big hug

[Bug 1607291] Re: Dual SIM devices show "No SIM" icon in indicators if there is only one SIM installed

2016-09-22 Thread Ivo Xavier
And the bar indicator is getting very populated. For the network
indicator we now have 3 icons, the wifi indicator can convergence
between wifi connection and mobile data. The first time I saw it was
confusing, because I was thinking that my only SIM card was having
problems. We are repeating information...the user see the icon, then
swipe down, and then see the same info. If the purpose is to warning the
user, why not set this as a notification? Then people could enable or
disable it in notifications panel. I think it would be a more elegant
way of doing this.

1) turn on the phone;
2) insert SIM PIN;
3) A notification bobble appears saying NO SIM2 is detected;
4) User dismiss the notification.
5) If is annoying doing this on every reboot, disable system-settings
notifications in notifications panel.

With this you match carriers requirements, and still provide a elegant way for
that. As the way it is, the user is being 'almost forced' to add a second SIM
card. Hope you're mind change on this

[Bug 1508905] Re: Graphics disorder, a large "claw" ('>') appearing

2016-09-13 Thread Ivo Xavier
Good morning everybody,

Today this claw/arrow appeared again. There isn't a way to reproduce it
exactly the same way everytime, but the behavior is almost the same, at
least with me. Scrooling up and down, enable and disable "show results
from (...)" click on cards, get back, scooling up and down, enable and
disable "show results from (...)" , doing this consistently and the
claw/arrow appears. Today Scope is the only one affected by this, I've
tried to do the same on NearBy Scope, but nothing happens.

The upcoming refresh of scopes also suffers from this bug?

[Bug 1203276] Re: cups-browsed memory usage unacceptable

2016-07-22 Thread Ivo Straka
Here is an upstream bug with a patch:

https://bugs.linuxfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1365

However, it is for the current revision, so it will probably appear in
1.10.1 and I am not sure how to deliver this patch to the Ubuntu package
cups-browsed 1.8.3-2ubuntu3. Basically, I don't know how packaging for
Ubuntu works, and I couldn't find the source specific for
1.8.3-2ubuntu3. So, I took the source of 1.8.3, patched it and attached
is a diff file.

Re: [Bug 1508905] Re: Graphics disorder, a "claw" appearing

2016-06-21 Thread Ivo Xavier
Hi Albert,

As I mentioned only happens once in a while. But, I'll once again disable
the day info and enable it in a few days to see what happens.

There's any logs I can provide when it happens?

[Bug 1376316] Re: nova absolute-limits floating ip count is incorrect in a neutron based deployment

2016-04-20 Thread Ivo
We are developing internal project that works with quotas on project/tenant
level. We are using REST API's for that purpose.
Right now we are trying to calculate usage of floating IP's. So I found this
thread. I can confirm that this issue is still valid in Liberty release.

Does anyone found any workaround to get totalFloatingIpsUsed via REST API?
For maxTotalFloatingIps  we used
http://developer.openstack.org/api-ref-networking-v2-ext.html#quotas-ext
but cannot find anything similar for totalFloatingIpsUsed

Any hints what can be used or are there any plans this to be fixed soon?

[Bug 1567219]

2016-04-17 Thread Ivo Raisr
Thank you, Aleksandar, for patches rev2.
I have attached rev3 and run it on amd64/Solaris 12 and amd64/Ubuntu.
Regression testing went ok.

Actually Solaris 12 has working combination of gcc 5.3 and ld so that
-gz=zlib-gnu is supported there and the executable has all sorts of .zdebug
sections. So that test cases passes.
For -gz=zlib I suppose we should wait a bit until it gets into distributions.

[Bug 1567219]

2016-04-12 Thread Ivo Raisr
Thank you for the patches and for addressing my comments.
Your work is really appreciated.

Overall it looks in a good shape now.
Please fold all the patches into one, so it's better maintainable.
I have only the following remaining comments:

+++ configure.ac
1) Please use autoconf macros AC_CHECK_TYPE/AC_CHECK_TYPES for checking
Elf{32,64}_Chdr typedefs.
See for example:
https://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.69/html_node/Generic-Types.html#Generic-Types

+++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/image.c
2) When including "tinfl.c", do we want to define "TINFL_HEADER_FILE_ONLY"?

3) typo:
+ // Virtual size of the image = real size + size of uncopressed data
uncopressed => uncompressed

4) typo:
+ // Number of compressed slices are used
delete 'are'

5) CEnt.data has now non-fixed size. Why CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE is still used in
various places
around image.c; for example in alloc_CEnt() and realloc_CEnt()?

6) In function find_cslc(), please use {} braces for better readability and put
'return' statement
to its own line. You can declare 'i' inside the for loop as we use C99.

7) In function find_cslc(), use proper type 'UInt' instead of 'int', to
match that of 'cslc_used'.

8) Width of all lines is 80 characters max - occurrences in
alloc_CEnt(), realloc_CEnt(), get_slowcase(),
ML_(img_mark_compressed_part)().

9) Should be two lines, really:
+   if (len > ce->size) len = ce->size;

10) typo:
+ // get copressed data

11) should be on separate lines:
+ if ((cslc != NULL) && (cslc->szD > CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE)) size =
cslc->szD;

12) Please be explicit:
+   vg_assert(img);
=> vg_assert(img != NULL);

+++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/priv_image.h
13) Make it a proper sentence:
+/* Real size of the image */
=> +/* Real size of the image. */

14) Make it a proper sentence:
+ Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be
read */
=> Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be
read. */

15) Lines too long (exceed 80 chars):
   Returns (virtual) position in image from which decompressed data can be read
*/
DiOffT ML_(img_mark_compressed_part)(DiImage* img, DiOffT offset, SizeT szC,
SizeT szD);

+++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/readelf.c
16) Magic '12' is used multiple times, please make it a #define or a constant.
+} else if (h->sh_size > 12) {

17) [multiple times] The exclamation mark is really unnecessary here,
the whole message you get is scary per se (check other occurrences of
ML_(symerr)() in this module).
+ ML_(symerr)(di, True, "   Unknown compression type!"); \

+++ memcheck/tests/Makefile.am
18) Use @FLAG_W_NO_UNINITIALIZED@ (see configure.ac) instead of plain
-Wno-uninitialized.

+++ memcheck/tests/cdebug.c
19) A compiler could see that the program always returns 0 and might optimize
'if (x)' out.
Perhaps you can return different values?

20) I don't see any coregrind/Makefile changes to build
m_debuginfo/tinfl.c?

+++ coregrind/m_debuginfo/tinfl.c
21) What kind of license your modifications fall under? tinfl.c seems to be
under "UNLICENSE" whereas
the rest of Valgrind is under GPLv2+.

22) We should use proper Valgrind types, not standard C ones here:
typedef unsigned char mz_uint8;
typedef signed short mz_int16;
typedef unsigned short mz_uint16;
typedef unsigned int mz_uint32;
typedef unsigned int mz_uint;
typedef unsigned long long mz_uint64;

I was able to get it built on amd64/Solaris and regression testing went fine.
However I don't have any system with toolchain supporting '-gz' at hand.
I assume you tested on MIPS. Anyone can test on a different architecture or
distribution?

[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 wifi support

2016-02-10 Thread Ivo Sieben
@aline-o :

Thank you so much... WIFI is now also up & running on my Ubuntu studio
laptop (4.2.0 kernel). I was waiting for that driver for quite some
time... I was surprised to see that the fix was already available for 2
years on github. Thanks for pointing that out on this thread.

The rtbth also got me a bit further but: I now see the bluetooth icon
apear on the system tray. But unfortunately didn't manage to peer with
my smartphone... ("no adapters found"). Not a big problem for me now:
I'm already glad to see WIFI working.

Any idea what it takes to get the WIFI driver into kernel mainline?

[Bug 1373463] Re: [indicators] Impossible to disable cellular data from indicator

2016-01-25 Thread Ivo Xavier
I will comment this, bug, with my experience, trying to help the
decision of what to do. I think this issue its all about customization.
By the which, for the moment, ubuntu touch is not famous for. Yet again,
every person has it owns requirements, so we end up on customization. In
my country the button to toggle the celular data is very used.

Off course adding this button has advantages and disadvantages, at least
for moment. Mine are:

*I use celular data, I have it most of the time turned on. In my country
(Portugal), my carrier (Meo) offers a tariff (Moche) with free traffic
for apps like whats app, facebook messenger, instagram, viber, iMessage,
Skype and a plus 500mb to surfer the web, view email etc. Its mostly
design for people under 26 years of age, we use it a lot. In my case,
and many others, we use the celular data button to stay "offline" to our
social media, to all apps. But I can't remember a situation when I used
the airplane mode (this mode for me is useless), because I still want my
phone be capable of receiving sms and calls from my parents, or even in
emergency situations. In this case, adding this button saves time,
because it can turn of celular data with on just click and save celular
data. Some people say that also saves power, but I don't see that as the
principal argument.

*Ubuntu phone experience. As someone mentioned in the mailing list, if
we add this button to the indicator network, we can put ourselves
exposed to risks. But yet again, I think is a matter of customization,
for some its make sense for others not. If other people couldn't change
the settings right up from the indicators, at least with the screen
locked with passcode, we wouldn't be talking about this specific issue.

So, every person has its own requirements. Adding this button will make
every person happy? No. Not adding this button will make everybody
happy? No. In my opinion, adding a functionality that let's users to add
or remove buttons from each indicator would be the best option. Off
course, canonical has to make a default option and decide to put it by
default or not, but users will also have the possibility to add or
remove. I remember Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 with android 4.2.2 has this
functionality, and I loved it, letting users to setting up what they
want to see (http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-
content/uploads/2013/02/Screenshot_2013-02-22-16-58-13.png).

But, for the moment, if the only option is to add or not to add, I will
go to: Add the button.

Hope I've helped with some ideas.

Good work people.

[Bug 1517810] Re: Colors of battery usage difficult to distinguish

2015-11-19 Thread Ivo Xavier
I think the best solution is to redesign the current design. And by this
I mean, look to android L: see attachment [screenshot]

With this we kill to birds in one shot. And if in the future some color
scheme is made, we do not have to set individuals colors to fit the
changes, just one. We could replace the 'green' by the ubuntu orange
scheme. Instead of having only one multicolor line that not fit with
many colors
