OK. I'll just wait until Mint KDE gets the Natty base, although I'm
still surprised it wasn't included for Maverick.

I'm also seeing this in a fresh install of Maverick (Mint 10 KDE,

Shouldn't we be able to install it and run it without having to edit a

[Bug 590411] [NEW] Unmounting USB drive with Disk Mounter applet doesn't remove the device from /media

2010-06-06 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

System Specs:
Ubuntu release: 10.04
gnome-applets version: 2.30.0-0ubuntu2

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Add the Disk Mounter applet to a panel
2. Mount a USB drive to your computer
3. Click the drive on the applet, then select Unmount

EXPECTED RESULTS
4. The drive is unmounted from your system
5. Running ls /media in a terminal confirms that the device is removed from
your system

ACTUAL RESULTS
4. The drive is unmounted from your system
5. Running ls /media in a terminal indicates that the device is in fact still
attached to your system
6. Attempts at removing the drive via sudo through either a terminal or
nautilus results in the return of an error stating Error removing file: Device
or resource busy

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've recently started noticing that when I mount my iriver E100 DMP it is
mounted with an increasing number of underscores in the label. After finding
Bug #101845 Automounted Volumes mount points change I opened /media in a sudo
nautilus window to try to delete the E100 drive and all of the newer instances
I was able to remove all of them with the exception of E100__, this
morning's instance. When I try to delete it I get Error removing file: Device
or resource busy, even with the device itself is no longer connected to my
computer. When I reconnected my E100 to my system it mounted as /media/E100 so
at least manually deleting the mount points allows me to get back to the proper
identity.

When I unmount the drive via nautilus the mount point is completely
removed, so the issue seems to be in the applet itself.

I believe the problem initially appeared after updating awn-applets-
python-core-trunk to version 0.4.1~bzr1311-1.10.04 from the AWN Testing
Team's PPA, although closing AWN does not allow me to manually remove
E100__ either.

I was able to get Iriverter working by snagging the iriverter.jnlp file

[Bug 483566] [NEW] Login information is no longer remembered

2009-11-16 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When I first upgraded to karmic I was able to enter login information on
webpages and when I return to the site at a later date the login
information would be autocompleted for me once the page completes
loading. In the last week or so this behavior stopped occurring. I
believe the package that was updated may have been a xulrunner package
but Epiphany is now built on a WebKit backend so I don't know why the
Mozilla (and thus Gecko) xulrunner components getting changed would
affect this behavior.

SYSTEM STATS:
Ubuntu version: 9.10
Epiphany version: 2.28.0-4ubuntu1

AFFECTED SITES:
Gmail, WordPress.com, Ubuntu Forums, Launchpad, Boston Public Library online
catalog (http://catalog.mbln.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?profile=bpl1) etc.

REPRODUCABLE: 100% reproducable

STEPS:
1. Launch Epiphany and surf to a website that requires logging in
2. Enter your username and password
3. The login credentials are accepted and you are able to use the complete
feature set of the website.
4. Close Epiphany
5. At some point in the future (the next day, if not later in that same day)
launch Epiphany
6. Return to the website's login page

EXPECTED:
Once the login page finishes being rendered your username and password is
entered into the fields (with the password being shown simply as a string of
dots or asterisks)

ACTUAL:
Once the login page finishes being rendered the username and password fields
are blank with no way to retrieve them short of typing them in manually. Not
even the password is provided once the username is entered and you tab or click
to the password field

[Bug 481339] [NEW] Flash vIdeos in Gmail from the FAIL blog don't show up in message body

2009-11-12 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adobe-flashplugin

Back in June the owners of the FAIL blog had problems with using Youtube
videos so they switched their videos to Viddler (FAIL blog announcement
of switch is at http://failblog.org/2009/06/25/sidewalk-fail-3/). Ever
since then I've noticed that their daily emails with new posts don't
show up in my Gmail regardless of what browser I use (Epiphany
2.28.0-4ubuntu1, chromium browser
4.0.245.0~svn2009r31665-0ubuntu1~ucd1 or Firefox 3.5.5+nobinonly-
0ubuntu0.9.10.1). The videos show up well enough when I surf the FAIL
blog site itself, and when I check the source code of the message I can
see that the embed shows up but it isn't showing up in the message
itself. The same behavior is present when checking email with Evolution
2.28.1-0ubuntu2 0. I can't check the behavior in Thunderbird or another
email client because Evo is the email client I have opted to use. To the
best I can determine other users of the site that run Windows or the
MacOS don't show this behavior, and I suspect users of other plugins
don't experience the issue either. It may be a Gmail issue but from what
I can determine it's an issue of the plugin, not the service since the
behavior also shows up in my email client (which I believe doesn't use
the plugin).

I'm enclosing screenshots of the message in Gmail, the video on the site
itself, as well as the source code for today's email message from the
FAIL blog. The video in question is the very first one, That's what you
get for being a show off.

SYSTEM STATS:
Ubuntu Version: 9.10 (with updates as of yesterday afternoon)
Adobe-flashplugin version: 10.0.32.18-1karmic2

STEPS:
1. Open a web browser with the flash plugin installed
2. Go to the FAIL Blog website (http://failblog.org/) and sign up to receive
daily emails of new posts
3. Read your email in Gmail. When a new video has been added to the FAIL blog
the next day you will recieve a message showing the new video among the day's
new posts.

EXPECTED RESULTS:
The video shows up in preview mode to give you the option of viewing the video.

ACTUAL RESULTS:
There is simply a space where the video should be.

[Bug 462643] [NEW] NASA TV feed is not rendered properly in Epiphany (Webkit)

2009-10-28 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

I went to the NASA TV website this morning to try to watch the stream
for the launch of the Aeres I-X rocket but when the browser tried to
render the video section it completely borked the job. I was able to get
the page to work in both Chromium and Firefox, but as you can see in my
attached screenshot the attempt at rendering it in Epiphany (Webkit) not
only borked the job but the attempt bled all the way to the lower and
right hand borders of my browser window.

[Bug 461187] [NEW] Unable to select an icon from the theme (trunk)

2009-10-26 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

Since I started using the karmic trunk version of AWN I am unable to
select an icon when creating or editing a launcher. When I click on the
icon in the Desktop Entry Editor I am presented with a .png in my /home
folder under from File (that has been deleted over a week ago), but when
I click the radio button to select icons from the current theme I am
presented with an empty window (see attachments). The issue occurs
regardless of which GTK theme I am using.

Ubuntu Version: 9.10 (beta/RC, with all updates as of 11am EDT today)
AWN Version: Avant Window Navigator 0.3.9-rewrite-bzr1605-karmic1-1

STEPS:
1. Launch AWN-trunk
2. Open Awn Settings
3. Go to the Launchers pane and either click Add or select an existing launcher
and click Edit
4. If adding a new launcher insert the appropriate information into the fields
5. Click the icon button
6. The Desktop Entry Editor opens with the From File panel

EXPECTED:
1. Click the From Theme radio button
2. Select the desired icon from the icons available in the active GTK theme

ACTUAL:
1. Click the From Theme radio button
2. No icons are presented from active GTK theme

[Bug 461187] Re: Unable to select an icon from the theme (trunk)

2009-10-26 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
You read my mind, Mark. Once I was able to select an icon from the theme
again I was going to see if I needed to file a bug against what a PITA
it [was|is] to find a specific icon amongst the semi-sorted listing. I
always hated having to muddle my way through the icons trying to find
the one I wanted. I look forward to seeing your fix in the nightly
updates.

[Bug 461345] [NEW] Clicking in folder list doesn't change focus

2009-10-26 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Since upgrading to Karmic I'm finding that clicking an arrow beside a
folder doesn't always toggle the open/close state (label A below), and
clicking a different folder than the one selected doesn't change the
selected folder but toggles the open/close state (label B below).

SYSTEM DATA:
Ubuntu version: 9.10 (with updates as of 10:00 am EDT today)
Evolution version: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1

REPRODUCIBLE?: Always

STEPS (A):
1. Open Evolution and select a folder
2. Click the arrow to open/close the folder

EXPECTED:
The folder is either opened or closed, the opposite of the state it was in
before you clicked the arrow

ACTUAL:
c.80%+ of the time the time the folder state doesn't change

STEPS (B):
1. Open Evolution and select a folder
2. Select a different folder

EXPECTED:
The folder clicked on is made the active folder

ACTUAL:
The folder originally selected is opened/closed, changing the state of the
folder before another folder was selected

-
I realize I probably should have split this into two bugs, but there seems to
be a connection between the behaviors so I am including both in this report. If
I need to split the bug just let me know.

[Bug 411261] Re: mailto URL command: evolution %s

2009-10-25 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
I'm adding to this bug because I'm also seeing it in karmic. I didn't
notice it in jaunty but I didn't have the need to try to debug
evolution-rss in jaunty (the reason I ran evolution in the terminal in
the first place).

System Stats:
Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 9.10 (with updates available as of c. 8:00 am EDT today)
Evolution version: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1

Reproducible: Definitely

Steps:
1. Launch evolution via the CLI to track error messages

RESULTS:
First line after the command is entered is:
** (evolution:5286): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s

I tried to attach additional debug info via apport-collect 411261 but I
keep getting apport-collect 411261: command not found. I'll be happy
to add any additional information I can to get this bug investigated and
see it resolved.

[Bug 460450] [NEW] Correcting spelling deletes old text without entering new text

2009-10-25 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

It's very nice to be able to use the spell checking utility in Epiphany

misspelling it removes the selected text without replacing it with the
corrected spelling.

followed. In fact it happened twice wile submitting this bug.

STEPS:
1. Launch epiphany-browser and surf to a page with a form you want to complete
2. Type in the textbox, making typos
3. Using the context menu select Spelling and Grammar: Check Document Now

[Bug 460462] [NEW] evolution-rss no longer downloads new messages

SYSTEM DATA:

Epiphany-rss version: 0.1.4-1ubuntu1

REPRODUCIBLE?: Definitely. It happens each time the steps below are
followed. In fact it happened twice wile submitting this bug.

STEPS:
1. Upgrade an Ubuntu Jaunty system with the evolution-rss package to the
beta/RC of ubuntu karmic
2. Launch evolution and have evolution fetch new articles

EXPECTED:
Articles published since the last time the feeds were checked are downloaded
per your settings

ACTUAL:
Despite not having updated the feeds in over a week (the last time I checked
feeds with Evo before upgrading to karmic) no new messages are downloaded

I am attaching my current list of subscribed feeds as exported from

[Bug 457243] [NEW] mailto: protocol no longer supported in kamic

2009-10-21 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Epiphany/Webkit doesn't allow me to click on a mailto: link to open my
email client in compose mode to write an email.

Ubuntu version: 9.10
Browser version: epiphany-browser 2.28.0-4ubuntu1
URL of page where the error was discovered:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-plaschke21-2009oct21,0,4113913,full.column
on bottom of page with link to author's email address
(mailto:bill.plasc...@latimes.com)

STEPS FOLLOWED:
1. Surf to website containing an email link
2. Ckick on link to compose an email to the address provided with the mailto:
protocol

EXPECTED RESULTS:
1. My preferred email client is opened to a new compose mail window with the
email address field (and subject and/or message body fields if provided) filled
with the information provided in the html anchor link

ACTUAL RESULTS:
1. Rather then opening my email client I get an error message in Epiphany, with
a button at the bottom labeled Try again:
 Unable to load page

[Bug 439818] Re: epiphany-gecko can't be installed

2009-10-19 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Damn, that's disappointing. I specifically left Firefox and switched to
Epiphany but Epiphany/Webkit really seems like it's not ready for prime
time IMO. There don't seem to be any working extensions, my form
information never gets saved to the point where I'm having to reset the
damned things on some sites (like twice in as many days just here on
Launchpad for some odd reason), and it simply no longer lets me work the
way I want to.

It's really a shame that the Epiphany devs have decided to turn their
backs on Gecko before (at the very least) the extensions were ported
over. I know there are some Epiphany/Webkit extensions available but
I'll be damned if I can figure out how to use the damned things.

[Bug 439818] Re: epiphany-gecko can't be installed

2009-10-19 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
CORRECTION: The base package of extensions for Epiphany are in fact
ported, but I can't find a way to get the extra extensions pack
(epiphany-extensions-more) installed.

It turns out the problem with getting logged into Launchpad is more
about the fact that the cookies don't seem to be getting saved so
everytime I go to LP I have to log in, yet AGAIN, although this am I did
have to reset my password because I couldn't get the damned thing typed
right ror something.

[Bug 272808] Re: epiphany-webkit does not open link in new tab

2009-10-18 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
I have to disagree with you, BeowulfOF. As Neils wrote in comment #5
there is no new tab option for the content menu, as is shown in the
first image I attached, although middle-clicking the link does open it
in anew window as you decribe. As my second image shows the new window
is opened in a window so small as to be worthless (at least on my
system). If I drag the tab into my main Epiphany window Epiphany
crashes, a behavior that I know should be addressed in a bug of it's
own.

In the event both images don't attatch here are links to the images on my
Picasa account:
   1. No New tab option:
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/gcUMqJrsKziDb35Q6KDz8w?feat=directlink
   2. Middle-clicked link opens in uselessly small new window:
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/glUanIUgLi8py-8ayRTt4w?feat=directlink

Please change the status on this bug to reflect the fact that the fix
doesn't seem to appear in Ubuntu 9.10 beta.

CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.20GHz

[Bug 272808] Re: epiphany-webkit does not open link in new tab

2009-10-18 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
I just discovered something that may help diagnose the issue. It seems I
have the most problems with links opening new windows rather than new
tabs on sites from Google (Gmail, iGoogle, etc.). LInks on my personal
start page open in new tabs, IMDb opens in new tabs, Bank of America
opens in new tabs, even the links on sites for Major League Baseball
open in new tabs.

Could it be an issue with how Google codes their links?

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-10-10 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
With all due apologies, Maxim, but that seems like an almost insulting
fix to this bug. Not only would this be a slap in the face of every user
who has noted that this bug affects them, as well as those who have
filed duplicate bugs because it is a real annoyance to them but they
didn't see this bug first, it also strikes me as being a case of we
don't care how you guys (and girls) feel about this issue, and we're
just going to ignore it completely. That is precisely the type of
response that has ticked off so many Firefox 3 users and I'd really hope
the Ubuntu and upstream devs aren't so heartless.

That said, I look forward to the possibility of the possible good news
upstream that Andrew reported in comment #34. I'd be willing to test it
if someone makes a deb available in a PPA or something.

[Bug 376190] [NEW] Stop YouTube search with a button

2009-05-13 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I've taken to using Totem's YouTube plugin to watch videos rather than
having to deal with a lot of stuttering in Flash, but the video I'm
looking for is usually (90% of the time) the first result returned. The
problem is that even though I can add it to my playlist once it comes up
there's no way to tell Totem to stop searching.

Can we get a button to stop the active search once we see the video
we're looking for?

[Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex

2008-10-30 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Thanks, Takahani! I copied your steps to my PDA and it worked like a
charm. I can run Compiz again! Now I just have to pull up
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1826952#post1826952 and
fix the white window issue.

I owe you a beer, Takahani. :)
