[Bug 661206] Re: Wireless does not reconnect when resuming on EEEPC 901

2010-10-27 Thread JDM
Seems to be related to conflict between ralink drivers and -- something
in the kernel?

Work around (mostly) by adding the following to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00usb

I also downloaded and compiled the current version of rt2860 drivers
based on instructions I found here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9988272

See post #3. Not sure it was needed, but I did it. Works OK, but
sometimes when I am out of wireless network range for a long time (like
an hour) network-manager greys out and a red exclamation mark appears.
When returning to a network, the only way I have found to reconnect is
reboot. No idea if this is a driver issue or a n-m issue or something
else.

[Bug 640809] Re: [STAGING] Crash after resume from sleep and reconnect to wireless network

2010-10-27 Thread JDM
Mostly fixed on eeepc 901 by adding the following to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00usb

Still some odd behavior on resume but no more locking up

[Bug 661206] [NEW] Wireless does not reconnect when resuming on EEEPC 901

2010-10-15 Thread JDM
Public bug reported:

1) install maverick UNE on eeepc 901
2) upgrade all packages to current version
3) put machine to sleep
4) resume

Expected action, wireless reconnects automatically or I can reconnect
manually

Actual action, 20% of time I can reconnect if I have not changed networks
The rest of the time, the network either spins without connecting (60%) or
locks up everything (20%).

My fix is to reboot. I probably could reset something, but am stilling
finding my way around the Unity interface and reboot works. I will
trigger this when I have a minute and add the dmesg output.

2009-09-10 Thread JDM
Public bug reported:

( Also sometimes locks up the entire XWindows interface)

(evolution:7599): e-table-CRITICAL **: e_table_header_get_column:

(evolution:7599): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_draw_line: assertion `GDK_IS_GC (gc)'

The program 'evolution' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 175501 error_code 4 request_code 56 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Note that I am operating with a default u.s. english language setup.

1.Create some tasks in the usual way (you can skip this step if you
already have some.)
2. While in task view, go to File | Print
3. select your printer and press "Print"
4. Note header at the top of the page.

It worked, but it did not stick between sessions.

So I added that command (without the "&") to my session startup list

I am not sure this is the most current window decorator, and it is a
little clunky, but it works for me so far.

looks like evolution-dbgsym has a dependency problem. Hasn't been
prepared for new evo? Anyway, it won't install

Also, something in the last week _seems_ to have stabilized this. I am
not ready to mark it closed yet, but evo has not crashed for a couple of
days, even when I use the send/receive button.

[Bug 174141] Re: Feature request: Restore Quit functionality

2008-04-14 Thread JDM
Still an issue in Gutsy. I am waiting for Hardy release to test.

I have discovered that the problem occurs only when using "Group by" in
the task view.

Will test in Hardy when I can.

[Bug 213327] [NEW] Filters not processing correctly on Exchange inbox

2008-04-07 Thread JDM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 7.10
Evolution 2.12.1-0ubuntu1.1 0

I have a number of messages filters to process on POP 3 and Exchange
inboxes. Most look at the sender and move to an appropriate local
folder. Pop3 works fine, but the Exchange process does not.

Expected to happen: Messages in both inboxes are processed and moved to
local folders as appropriate.

Actually happened:

POP messages processed as expected.

If the "Apply filters to new messages..." checkbox is set on the
Exchange account, the following happens:

1. the Exchange inbox on the sidebar shows a count of unread messages,
2. the Exchange message summary does NOT show the new message headers unless
3. Evolution is restarted. Then the current messages appear, but not the next
set. Restart is required.
4. In either event, the filters are not processed unless the message headers
are selected and Ctl-Y is used.

Alternately, I can uncheck "Apply filters to new messages..." and the
inbound messages are displayed in Inbox folder. Select and Ctl-Y can
still be used to process the filters.

[Bug 162358] Re: displayconfig-gtk error when selecting mirror screen

2007-12-06 Thread JDM
I can confirm similar behavior on Dell Precision M70 running Gutsy, and
Nvidia proprietary driver. System shows some portion of the screen on
LCD projecter attached to video port. But displayconfig-gtk would not
start again from menu or terminal and when run from terminal it returned
similar messages ending with "IndexError: list index out of range."

I was able to recover by locating the earlier backup of the xorg.conf
fle and restoring it.

[Bug 174141] Feature request: Restore Quit functionality

2007-12-05 Thread JDM
Public bug reported:

Please restore the secondary menu after selecting QUIT to allow the
choice to SHUTDOWN, RESTART, LOGOFF,etc. This feature appears to be
disabled in Gutsy. Gusty assumes QUIT means LOGOUT. Desktop users may
ususually just log out, but laptop users have a more complex exit
patterns and the current functionality forces us to wait and click more
times to accomplish the exit. Non-default configurable option is OK.
