[Bug 1872073] Re: firefox can't access internet after libgd3 update to new version 2.2.5-4ubuntu 0.4 linux mint tricia bionic

2020-04-16 Thread Jh Ush
It turns out if I turn off the umatrix extension, firefox works again.
So must be conflict between umatrix and libgd3. Chromium works fine with
all the extensions I have installed. But yes. I have to turn off umatrix
extension to use firefox under libgd3. Thanks!

Firefox just hangs with dot moving back and forth in front of the tab.
After a while, I think it tells me it cannot connect. apt log follows:

Have not tried downgrading to libgd2. I'd prefer to try to uninstall
firefox, clean out cache, and reinstall. Think this is worth try? I'm
new to linux.

[Bug 1714886] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_window_is_on_primary_monitor()

2017-09-28 Thread Jh
Well i didnt think of that, so I tried it, too. When I turn off my Display that
is connected via Displayport, the Gnomeshell is killed after turning the Screen
on again. After turning on the Screen the login-window can be seen.
When you log in, its a new Session.
That would explain why in Bug #1718671 the session is only crashing after when
you want to unlock the Screen, because the Display was turned off after locking
the screen.

[Bug 1718671] [NEW] Gnome-Shell crashes after unlocking Lockscreen

2017-09-21 Thread Jh
Public bug reported:

Hi,

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch)
Release:17.10

gnome-shell:
  Installed: 3.26.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.26.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.26.0-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When using Super+L to lock the screen first all is working as intended.
After some time i want to unlock the Screen. I provide my credentials
and now all application that were open before are closed. It looks like
a new Session.

This happens only after some Time has passed. If I lock the screen and
immediately unlock it, all is working as intended

I attached parts of journalctl:
It seems a segfault causing parts of gnome getting killed by a SIGSEGV

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Part of journalctl output"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718671/+attachment/4954315/+files/journalctl.txt

I'm not quite sure about this.
If I choose 'Try Ubuntu' and then choose 'Instal', this bug pops up.
If I choose directly 'Install Ubuntu' on a text based Ubuntu Boot up screen,
everything is fine.

[Bug 1428417] [NEW] Nautilus(and Nemo too) cannot Mount if mount option is noauto/user and the mount point has non-western character

2015-03-04 Thread JH Park
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04(64bit), I configured /etc/fstab something like this.

  server:/Video /media/Video-Nfsnfs auto 0 0
  server:/강좌/media/강좌-Nfs nfs auto 0 0

It works fine.

I changed and added options, noauto, user.

  server:/Video /media/Video-Nfsnfs
noauto,user 0 0
  server:/강좌/media/강좌-Nfs nfs
noauto,user 0 0

After that, I can mount '/media/Video-Nfs' by clicking the icon on the
Nautilus's Network panel. It works.
However, when I click '강좌-Nfs' icon on the Nautilus, I got this message.

   mount: can't find /media/\352\260\225\354\242\214-Nfs in /etc/fstab
or /etc/mtab

I tried to mount that directory with mount command, like this.

  $ mount /media/강좌-Nfs/

It works. also umount /media/강좌-Nfs/ works.

I think Nautilus(and Nemo) cannot handle non-western characters when it is
related with mount options.
I'm not sure this is a bug or there might be a solution or a workaround.

[Bug 1242991] [NEW] idle-python2.7 Can't Open Existing File (

2013-10-21 Thread Jh
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Kubuntu 13.4, KDE Platform Version 4.11.2...
   Installed idle-python2.7 via MuonPackage Manager.

After downloading the package for IDLE (python2.7) I found I could not
open any existing files from TOOLBAR-File-Open. This would only
result in a blank (grayish) screen that would freeze and stay open after

[Bug 988251] Re: Nautilus cut, copy, paste, move and rename options are greyed out and stop working

2013-04-07 Thread JH
It is not related to permissions nor network shares. I have a folder
with some videos recordings. I double click one to open it with VLC,
then when I finish I close VLC, now I want to rename the file, the
rename item is greyed and unclickable, same happens with copy/paste
options, unclickable, but can paste using keyboard shortcuts. I don't
think number of tabs have something to do with this. In my case I can
reproduce always with a folder with video files, play the video, even
for some seconds, and when back to the folder right click menu have the
mentioned items greyed out.

I also have this bug and it happens when switching windows via mouse
click, Alt-Tab, or any of the various Launcher methods. I also have a
Nvidia graphics card 8400GS. I have no idea where to begins figuring out
which package is causing whindows to go white when brought into or out
of focus. I suspect compiz or the Launcher being the root cause but all
I can do is confirm that is happens. I have three screenshots of it. One
is during window selection after clicking on the Programs icon in the
Launcher with multiple windows open. The second shows VLC completely
white while out of focus and playing a video. The third picture shows a
terminal window open in focus completely white after clicking it's icon

[Bug 940230] Re: openssl on 64bit is much slower than before

2012-03-17 Thread JH
Here's a post that talks about the old assembly for 64bit x86.
http://zombe.es/post/405783/openssl-outmoded-asm

Performance is up to 50% worse for AES ciphers so I would think this is
a must fix.

Patch available for RC4 on x86_64.
http://cvs.openssl.org/filediff?f=openssl/crypto/rc4/asm/rc4-x86_64.plv1=1.12v2=1.13

For the rest, the option should be to disable ASM for 64bit and rely on AESNI
for processors with AES-NI support.
Possible patch here:

[Bug 914991]

2012-01-21 Thread Jh-junetz
(In reply to Hartmut Figge from comment #83)
I have just seen something related. The names of the last 6 of my news
accounts are changed by inserting multiple times the string 'hafi'.

 (...)

If you rewrite the strings, the issue becomes clearer:

hafi news hafi 1.open-news- hafi network.org hafi
hafi read hafi .news.telefo hafi nica.de hafi
hafi news hafi .alice-dsl.d hafi e hafi
hafi free hafi news.netfron hafi t.net hafi
hafi news hafi .tota-refugi hafi um.dehafi
hafi news hafi .online.de hafi

So in between hafis there are parts of certain lengths (4, up to 12,
rest) of the old account name, and hafi is both at the beginning and
end of all strings.

As I already noted on the newsgroups (somewhere...), I've seen this bug
years ago but was never able to reproduce it. Thanks to your list of
broken strings (heh) I was able to track it down this time: I'm 99% sure
nsMsgIncomingServer::OnUserOrHostNameChanged is the culprit. As the name
implies, a username or password change triggers a renaming of the
account name (prettyName internally): replace all occurrences of old
name in the acct name with the new one. It seems the code is not always
doing the right thing (maybe if oldName or newName are empty?). Do you
remember what exactly you did and what you entered?

In any case I'm pretty sure the issue you see is not this bug, so please
file a new one (Product MailNews Core), CC me and post the bug number
here for reference (I'm not a back-end guy so we'll need help there).
Thanks!

[Bug 779110] Re: suspend fails on powerpc 2.6.38-1 in IOCTL PMU_IOC_SLEEP

If the kernel is built with CONFIG_FB_RADEON=y (vice =m), then suspend

combined with the fact that radeonfb was not available as a module in

relevant?

[Bug 779110] [NEW] suspend fails on powerpc 2.6.38-1 in IOCTL PMU_IOC_SLEEP

2011-05-07 Thread jh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-powerpc

On PowerPC, G4 tibook, suspend worked fine for kernels 2.6.38-1 and earlier.
In kernel 2.6.38-8 and later (the kernels in between did not boot on PPC),
suspend fails. This appears to be because the recent kernels do not suspend
when the PMU_IOC_SLEEP is issued. This is quite easily demonstrated:

1. Create the following file (pmus.pl), lifted directly from /usr/lib
/pm-utils/pm-functions

#!/usr/bin/perl
sub PMU_IOC_SLEEP { 0x20004200; }
open PMU, /dev/pmu or die open /dev/pmu: $!;
ioctl PMU, PMU_IOC_SLEEP, 0;

On 2.6.38-1, running the perl script causes the system to suspend.

On 2.6.38-8 and later (including the current 11.10 kernel), the script
executes, but the system does not suspend.

Forgot to mention that this is on a standard 11.04 (natty) install ---
the 11.10 kernel was added to see if that helped, which it does not.

The numeric value for the PMU_IOC_SLEEP ioctl validates against the
installed kernel headers.

Don't think it's that simple. The new agent is overriding the gnome
authentication agent, and you've now lost any keys that were
automagically loaded from the gnome keyring.

This is a very annoying bug, possibly in /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome
/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.

Please can it be fixed soon.

new kernels built against 2.6.38-1 configs working).

CONFIG_LOWMEM_SIZE=0x3000

The somewhat static (no-initrd) kernel.org -rc6 kernel boots, at least
as far as losing a fight with Plymouth / udev. But it does boot, which
is more that the Ubuntu variants do.

Next steps: Build k.org rc6 using config-2.6.38-5-powerpc for 'make
oldconfig'. If that fails to boot, then use config-2.6.38-1-powerpc.

Will probably take a couple of days given the time to compile and the
time I'm available to play with the results.

Doesn't boot from grub either (but linux-image-2.6.38-1-powerpc does),
so maybe I should rebuild the machine with grub as the bootloader (needs
a bigger hd:2, alas).

[Bug 714165] [NEW] natty, ppc kernel linux-image-2.6.38-2-powerpc fails to boot

2011-02-06 Thread jh
Public bug reported:

Attempting to boot linux-image-2.6.38-2-powerpc on a PPC G4 (ancient
powerbook) results in the following error:

ext2: i/o error 2133571364 in read

As the kernel does not boot, it is impossible to run the commands listed
in the 'report a bug' page against this kernel.

 linux-image-2.6.38-1-powerpc boots fine.

The boot loader is yaboot (not grub2), as the machine has been dist-
upgraded from earlier versions. root fs is ext4, /boot is a directory on
the root partition.

Reinstalling the kernel package does not help.

Installed on ppc, thanks. empathy runs with the Using the 'memory' GSettings
backend. message.
Saving evince settings results in a crash evince: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_main_context_invoke.

But at least the apps run, so it's an improvement, albeit far from the
usability on ia32 or x86_64. Perhaps the endian issues remain?

[Bug 670504] [NEW] libinotify-ruby1.9.1 installs into the wrong location

2010-11-03 Thread jh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libinotify-ruby

On ia-32 systems, the package libinotify-ruby1.9.1 installs to
/usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/i486-linux/, and the extension file is not found by
the ruby infrastructure.

It should be installed to /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/i686-linux/, in accordance
with the CPU requirements for maverick, and thus recognised by
ruby.1.9.x, e.g.:

$ ruby1.9.1 -v
ruby 1.9.2p0 (2010-08-18 revision 29036) [i686-linux]

If the installed file (inotify.so) is copied for symlinked into the
correct location, /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/i686-linux, then it is found and
works correctly, otherwise a 'require' exception is raised.

Please update the package to install in the correct location.

[Bug 654667] Re: Maverick bluetooth does not create pan0 network devices

2010-10-31 Thread jh
This is caused by the ioctl(HCIUNBLOCKADDR), i.e. bluetooth uses an
ioctl that does not exist in production kernels, and then takes a fail
path when the ioctl fails.

If you build and install a pre-ioctl(HCIUNBLOCKADDR) version of bluez
(i.e. 4.61, the (AFAIK) lucid version), then bluetooth networking works
again.

Please may we have an updated maverick version that does not reference
the non-existent ioctl, or a kernel with the ioctl included.

[Bug 621507] Re: glib-compile-schemas fails if override files refer to non-installed schemas

2010-10-12 Thread jh
It would appear not and the problem is likely more than that. Building
Glib from git and installing it with LD_LIBRARY_PATH or
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/ trickery will allow applications like empathy and
evince to run, but the settings are corrupt and (now I'm way out of my
depth) probably require a new GConf as well, then you have to repair the
damage done by the broken gsettings conversion processes (including
things like

$ gsettings-data-convert --verbose
(gsettings-data-convert:12168): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2710: You
forgot to call g_type_init()
(gsettings-data-convert:12168): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_new:
assertion `G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed
(gsettings-data-convert:12168): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref:
assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
Segmentation fault

Just rebuilding Glib allows the affected applications to run with:
GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings will not
be saved or shared with other applications.

which is better than nothing.

/etc/network/interfaces

auto pan0
iface pan0 inet static

[Bug 642895] [NEW] Cannot change password in Maverick PPC

Public bug reported:

It is not possible to change a user password in Maverick on PPC

e.g. (here I'm using old and new as examples

as user luser

$ passwd
Changing password for luser.
(current) UNIX password: old
Enter new UNIX password: new
Retype new UNIX password: new
passwd: password updated successfully
$ su - luser
Password: new
su: Authentication failure

# sudo (user is permitted), login etc all fail.

Now, put the password back to what is was before, and su, sudo, login
all work again.

$ passwd
Changing password for luser.
(current) UNIX password: new
Enter new UNIX password: old
Retype new UNIX password: old
passwd: password updated successfully
$ su - luser
Password: old
# This works ##

Note the above is done using ssh, with the password cut and pasted from another
session in order to preclude typos.
It does not matter whether the new password contains any particular characters.

There is also a around 3 second window, using copy and paste, where
after a password change, the new password works ***once***, if it is
entered very quickly after the change. But it never works again, apart
from in passwd.

Bizarre.

[Bug 496093] Re: [lucid] rt2860 frequently fails to connect to mixed mode WPA/WPA2 secured wireless networks

2010-04-30 Thread jh
Yet another view: Asus EeePC 901

rt2860sta was fine on Karmic, including hidden ESSID and WPA/WPA2

on Lucid, 2.6.32-21 or 2.6.32-22, the ESSID must be broadcast and either
of WPA / WPA2 works, but not combined.

With the Ricardo Salveti kernel, or mainline ppa 2.6.33 / 2.6.34 lucid,
ESSID must be broadcast, combined WPA/WPA2 works, but there are
undesirable side effects, namely the machine will fail to resume from
suspend, or will fail to reboot / restart, requiring disconnection from
mains power and removal of the battery to even get back to the BIOS boot
screen. The standard Ubuntu kernels do not have this adverse affect.

For 2.6.32-22 (not not try -21), the vendor driver is can be manually
brought up, but is not recognised by g-n-m.

So for me, there is only one workaround: Ubuntu kernel, broadcast ESSID
and use only one of WPA or WPA2. An unfortunate regression. I hope any
potential fix is well tested on a good cross section of hardware.

[Bug 456306] Re: Badness at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/irq/manage.c:272

2010-04-05 Thread jh
Hi Jeremy,

I haven't seen this bug in either the recent Karmic kernels, upstream or
current Lucid, so I guess it's been fixed somewhere.

Sorry for not tracking in a bit more closely.

It should be closed (IMHO).

There appears to be no installable package for the architecture (ppc)
that this bugs affects, which makes testing the fix less easy. Is this
correct?
