Re: [Bug 1573923] [NEW] Spellchecker plugin not working in 16.04 (gtkspell not recognized)
To verify the install. You can try running python and then "import gtkspell". If this runs without error, zim should be able to use it as well. If it gives an error, zim will also not be able to use it. Btw. make sure python packages are for python 2, not python 3. Re: [Bug 1258886] [NEW] Zim stuck, killall zim - no process, kill parent python - bug report popup
Will look into the code recovering processes. What might help for this kind of cases is to first run "zim --index" after pulling in the repository. OK, the fact that it needs to be the last page in a sub-tree is probably the reason why I was not able to reproduce before. May need a deeper fix by tracing where the wrong index comes from. [Bug 613303] Re: Zim Desktop Wiki description is confusing
So proposal including comments of Raphael and Joos becomes: """ Zim is a graphical text editor used to maintain a collection of wiki pages. Each page can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and inline images. Pages are stored in a folder structure, like in an outliner, and can have attachments. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a nonexistent page. All data is stored in plain text files with wiki formatting. Various plugins provide additional functionality, like a task list manager, an equation editor, a tray icon, and support for version control. Zim can be used to: * Keep an archive of notes * Take notes during meetings or lectures * Organize task lists * Draft blog entries and emails * Do brainstorming """ I feel we are getting towards a good simple description that is also technical correct and contains all the right keywords :) Any more comments ? This sounds to me like a technical definition of a hyperlink, but not really like a description for end users. Wouldn't it suffice to say something like "the text of each note can contain links to other pages as well as simple formatting" -- I assume every user knows what a link is in this internet age (you could replace "link" by "hyperlink"). Another problem I have with this description is that it talks about "notes" while the zim user interface consistently talks about "pages". My counter proposal would be something like: """ Zim is a graphical text editor which allows the user to maintain a collection of wiki-style interconnected pages. [Bug 613303] Re: Zim Desktop Wiki description is confusing
Hi, I'm the maintainer of zim (upsteam). I agree that the description could be more clear and I'm open to suggestions. So far I have not seen a proposal for a text to replace it that seems better to me. If there is a concrete proposal I will consider it for the description in the upstream project page etc. Of course you are free to go ahead with a modified version in the ubuntu or debian packages. In any case I would appreciate it if the reference to "wiki" style editing is kept in the description since I know from discussions with actual users that this is a common search term that makes people end up with zim. Please note that zim never uses a space character in file names and ignores any files that do have spaces in the file name. The warning states that the file is ignored, the error probably is triggered by one of the subsequent files. Zim strictly uses utf-8 for page contents, any other encoding will cause it to fail. File written by zim should always be utf-8. > Please don't dismiss this as invalid. Zim is a great tool. [Bug 440594] Re: zim crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_prepare()
Probably due to a glitch in either gtk itself or the gtk-perl bindings. A bug in the perl code in which the application is written should never result in a segfault. Since zim 0.42 is a complete rewrite now using python-gtk bindings instead, and since gtk has seen new releases since this bug report I advise closing it. -- zim crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_prepare() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/440594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289316] Re: Warn when dvipng isn't installed (when user attempts to use formula plugin)
I agree, but it is difficult to have a detailed advise. Keep in mind that the actual package name and the actual latex implementation can vary between linux distributions. In fact some distributions allow you to choose from multiple implementations. Also I do not think an error message is the right place to include this info. In the redesign I'm working on there will be more room for plugins to have their own preferences and information text in the menu where you enable them. -- Warn when dvipng isn't installed (when user attempts to use formula plugin) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 288148] Re: Disabling ath5k in 2.6.27
Ok, seems the backports package works on a eeePC 900, no performance loss as far as I can tell. But it kind of sucked loosing network connectivity after a simple update without any warning. Bit difficult to search for this solution when you are offline... I would have expected these kind of things to be documented more clearly with 8.10 now being a release candidate and all. Although not entirely intuitive, this is intended behavior. You can edit the style config file to change back to real underline.
