[Bug 243476] [NEW] Connected online but NM displays "No network connection"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I am connected to the Internet as I am typing this, but Network Manager displays a warning icon, its tooltip says: "No network connection" and on left-clicking the icon, I get "No network devices have been found". The wired connection has been set to dhcp. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with all security and recommended updates installed on Jun 27, 2008. If I open Network Tools, I can select the network device (eth0), but clicking Configure gives me this message:"The interface does not exist. Check that it is correctly typed and that it is correctly supported by your system." Hardware testing says my network card is "Hangzhou Silan Microelectronics Co., Ltd. Unknown device 2031 (rev 01)". Windows XP on a seperate partition says my card is realtek rtl8139d. I expect NM to show that the card has been detected. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Connected online but NM displays "No network connection" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243476 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 215573] Re: Hardy crashes with rt61 wireless
I've narrowed down the problem to enabling wireless, see updated bug description. Please note that I'm no longer running the beta of course! ** Summary changed: - Hardy beta crashes + Hardy crashes with rt61 wireless ** Description changed: - I haven't clue why this is happening, but Hardy crashes randomly. Everything freezes including the mouse cursor, I hear the sound of the hard disk turning off (I think that's what the sound is), ctrl-alt-f1 to ctr-alt-f6 doesn't do anything, nor does ctrl-alt-backspace. At first I thought it was Firefox's fault, because it only seems to happen when I'm browsing, but then it happened when I was running Opera. This happened before and after I installed the restricted graphics driver, and enabled compiz. I'm using Wicd instead of Network Manager because Network Manager refuses to work on my WPA2 connection with my rt61 card (seperate bug filed). - I haven't clue how to debug this or get extra information since the ctrl-alts don't work. I'd be glad to follow some instructions. + Ubuntu 8.04 final release with some updates crashes frequently. [Bug 145288] [Gutsy Tribe 5] blank screen on live cd bootup, x doesn't load
Public bug reported: Basically, X doesn't load on boot-up of the live CD. I'm running a Packard Bell laptop, with a ATI Radeon 200M graphics card, and a R61 ATI wireless adapter. After checking Ubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 for defects, I loaded the live CD by simply pressing enter on "Start or install Ubuntu". The Ubuntu splash screen shows as is normal in feisty. After a while, the screen changes to what I call terminal mode, you know, where what is being loaded is displayed with an [OK] signal after each statement. The only abnormal things I noticed were errors when loading the network, and errors when loading cups. When you get to the point of loading GDM, the screen simply goes blank. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 doesn't do anything. If, I choose "Start or install Ubuntu in safe graphics mode", the messages get a bit further than loading GDM. The screen goes blank, then returns to the terminal, several times. Finally, still in what I call terminal mode, a message box says X failed to load, and asks whether I would like to view more details. I can do so if wish, by pressing enter on Yes. Otherwise, I return to the terminal, similar to what you get when you press Ctrl-Alt-F2. Like I said, I'm running a laptop, with a ATI Radeon 200M graphics card, and a R61 ATI wireless adapter. If I load the official Ubuntu Feisty Live CD, X loads correctly. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Gutsy Tribe 5] blank screen on live cd bootup, x doesn't load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
