Almost the same, but I have no problem changing to text console. Only happened last (couple of?) days. Re: [Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
How did you do that? 2008/1/4, Matthias Himber [EMAIL PROTECTED]: This bug magically disappeared on my machine when I upgraded xserver- xorg-video-ati to version 1:6.7.196-2 (hardy), plus dependencies. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have the same problem. [Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
With Compiz disabled, running TORCS, an OpenGL racing car game, I have experienced the same screen freeze. The mouse can move, but clicking doesn't do anything. I am unable to kill the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or switch to a different virtual console with Ctrl-Alt-F1. I am beginning to suspect this has something to do with hardware acceleration, rather than Compiz. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
Switching off the animations plugin did NOT solve it. I've had two freezes since my post above. One was when I moved my mouse to the close button on a window title bar. When the tool tip came up X froze. So I turned off the plugin Tonande fönster in Swedish. It makes windows smoothly appear and disappear. It then froze again, when Bluefish was started, exactly when the splash window opened up.
I have an ATI Radeon X600 using the open source radeon driver. I updated from Feisty, but in the upgrade changed from Compiz-Fusion repositories to the official Ubuntu packages. I have experienced the freezes described above, especially when doing something window management related, like putting a window to back (with middle mouse button). After I *switched off the animations plugin*, I haven't had any freezes. This is going on a couple of days now without any problems. (And I can really do without the animations plugin anyway...) Only switching focus animations off was not enough. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10353957/xorg.conf -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
